Pink Tutu Prague - A Ballet Odyssey Through the City of a Hundred Spires - Blog Post 495

Wednesday 20th October 2004

Hello darling! It’s Wednesday, which can only mean one thing: It's time for a fresh pink tutu blog from your favourite dancing fashionista, and this week we are going all out… Prague! Yes, ladies, we're in the heart of Czech Republic, exploring the cobbled streets and charming bridges of Prague. It feels like stepping into a storybook, all winding alleys and fairy-tale turrets, just waiting for a princess to explore (or a ballerina, of course).

I tell you, a ballet girl never gets bored with travelling, and Prague is just screaming out for a bit of tutu-licious joy! As you know, I adore a good train journey, especially those epic continental trips. You just can't beat watching the countryside whizz by. This time it was the overnight sleeper, with its little beds and dreamy views out the window, waking to a misty dawn over the rolling hills of the Czech Republic. Now, where were we…? Ah yes, I left my Derbyshire digs in the most dazzling of my pink tutus, a fluffy, feather-boa masterpiece. It seemed perfect for a romantic European adventure. I paired it with a darling pair of knee-high suede boots, and my little vintage travel bag. It’s like a chic Mary Poppins meets ballerina!

Anyway, Prague is just brimming with balletic inspiration. We’re not talking tutus and slippers, darlings. I'm talking ballet history and art! You see, this city has some truly spectacular venues like the National Theatre (yes, they actually have a National Theatre!), and The State Opera – oh the grandeur! I can just imagine the incredible ballerinas gracing their stages centuries ago!

But even with the history and all, let's be honest, it wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu blog if we didn’t spend a little time chatting about tutus themselves now, would it?

So, first things first. It was straight to the vintage shops for me. You know me - it's like an irresistible siren's call! And guess what I found? A genuine 1920s Russian tutu, made in Vienna (they're not all that far apart!) with the most glorious blush pink satin, all ruffled and bouncy – it felt so luxurious! My heart was skipping a beat, but my budget was doing that frantic ‘are you kidding me?’ little dance. In the end, it’s back on the train for this tutu darling!

After the shops, it was time for my favourite form of ‘ballet history’ - I went to a ballet class! (And, of course, I wore my trusty pink tutu – what else would I wear to a ballet class, darlings?!) You know, Prague may have that air of ancient royalty about it, but this ballet studio was incredibly modern – just the kind of place to make even a seasoned ballerina like myself a bit nervous. But hey, a ballerina never says no to a challenge! And let me tell you, these Czech ballerinas are top notch. It's been such a thrill to practice alongside them. My heart is definitely skipping a few beats from these extraordinarily graceful dancers!

We’ve been exploring all week and oh, what a beautiful place. From Charles Bridge to the Old Town Square – every corner is so photogenic – but really it’s all about the colours. Prague has just the perfect palette for a pink tutu, it's truly breathtaking. It's no wonder artists and writers come here – it's a magical place to dream, to be inspired, to just wander and let the stories unfold. And I think we've got ourselves quite the tale to tell about the pink tutu. It's going to be a tale for the ages – a fairy-tale romance between a tutu, Prague, and yours truly!

Tonight's adventure involves a ballet show in the National Theatre. I can’t wait to be swept away by the beautiful dancing, and hopefully get some photos in front of this amazing old building with my precious pink tutu.

Until next Wednesday darlings!
