#PinkTutuPrague Ballet in Prague 2005-01-12

Good morning, my dearest tutu-loving lovelies! It's Wednesday, and that means another blog post from yours truly, Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing travel enthusiast, fresh from the enchanting city of Prague.

This week, I'm buzzing with excitement. The last few days have been a flurry of tutus, train journeys, and Czech charm – it's almost as if Prague itself has been designed with my pink-tinted aesthetic in mind. Let me tell you all about it!

After weeks of ballet performances back in Derbyshire, I packed my bags (stuffed with a strategically chosen assortment of pink tutus, naturally), and set off for Prague, via the Eurostar. Now, you all know my love for train journeys – the gentle swaying, the captivating countryside whizzing past, the delicious aroma of warm scones… Pure magic, I tell you! This trip was no exception, especially with the charming French countryside filling the carriage windows with breathtaking hues of autumnal gold.

I even bumped into a fellow tutu aficionado, a delightful elderly lady with a beautiful, faded pink tutu tucked neatly in her travel bag. We bonded over our mutual admiration for the delicate craftsmanship and timeless elegance of the perfect tutu. You never know where you'll find your tutu soulmate!

My heart skipped a beat as I stepped off the train into Prague's magnificent Hauptbahnhof, a station so breathtaking it almost felt like it had been plucked straight from a fairytale. As I made my way towards the hotel, a magnificent old building adorned with intricate carvings and ornate decorations, the streets pulsed with an infectious energy, alive with laughter, the clinking of beer glasses, and the intoxicating aroma of fresh bread and pastries.

My hotel was pure fairytale: charming, cozy, and with a window view that showcased the city's enchanting silhouette against a twilight sky. But what truly sealed the deal for me was the vibrant pink accent wall in the lobby – an irresistible hint of the sartorial delights to be had in this fabulous city.

No trip to Prague would be complete without experiencing the vibrant theatre scene. Last night, I was fortunate to witness a mesmerizing performance of “The Shadow of the Phantom” at the grand National Theatre, a breathtaking structure overlooking the Vltava River. I was immediately enchanted by the dramatic lighting, the beautiful sets, and the extraordinary costumes – oh, the costumes! They truly exemplified the opulence and grandeur of a bygone era.

And then, there was the dance. The ballets, the graceful choreography, the dancers' elegant movements... the performance simply swept me away. It wasn't simply about ballet; it was about a world of stories woven through graceful leaps and heart-wrenching pirouettes, with an artistry that made my soul soar.

Of course, no visit to Prague would be complete without indulging in its many delightful offerings. One afternoon, I took a gentle pony ride through the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, my pink tutu billowing gracefully behind me. (Yes, my dearest tutu-lovers, my journey included a little horse-powered glamour!) The sights, the sounds, the smells – the atmosphere truly captured my imagination. I had a chance to soak up the sights, and indulge in the delightful ambience of local cafes, where I savoured heavenly cinnamon rolls and creamy hot chocolate.

Later, I explored the breathtaking architecture of Charles Bridge. With its towering gothic spires piercing the sky and adorned with beautiful baroque statues, it truly embodied Prague's enduring history and magnificent architectural legacy. But what truly caught my eye? Well, of course, a street performer in a rather flamboyant pink tutu! We couldn't help but exchange smiles and acknowledge the unspoken connection between fellow tutu enthusiasts.

And the shopping, my darlings! I simply couldn't resist the call of the boutiques and antique shops that lined Prague’s charming streets. My new pink velvet purse with its delicately embroidered details and my exquisite vintage brooches will surely serve as elegant souvenirs from my fabulous adventure.

The final highlight of my trip was a visit to the beautiful National Museum of Prague. But what was my biggest discovery? Hidden amongst the exquisite paintings and artefacts, I stumbled upon a fascinating exhibit showcasing the rich history of ballet in Prague. I discovered tales of iconic dancers, legendary choreographers, and grand performances that echoed through time. It was a wonderful reminder of the rich tapestry of dance history woven into this city's soul.

And, of course, I had to seek out the "Pink Tutu Exhibit," dedicated to the history of tutu design and its evolution over centuries! They had original tutus worn by iconic dancers of the past, fascinating accounts of the materials and craftsmanship, and even a display of sketches by the world’s most renowned ballet costume designers. It was like stepping into a dream!

Prague, you have enchanted me. From the picturesque architecture and vibrant cultural offerings to the warmth of the local people, you've left a lasting impression on my heart.

Before heading back to Derbyshire to begin rehearsals for my next ballet performance (a stunning rendition of "Swan Lake," of course!), I wanted to leave you all with a little reminder of what I've learned during my journey:
