Pink Tutu Prague: Post 586 – A Bohemian Ballet Adventure
Wednesday 19th July 2006
Hello, my dearest tutu-loving darlings! It's Emma here, back from Prague and positively brimming with pink-hued stories, beautiful ballet memories, and an achingly romantic heart.
This week's adventure saw me twirling into the very heart of Bohemia, Prague's cobbled streets echoing with the click-clack of my sparkly pink heels and the whisper of my voluminous tulle skirt as I skipped through the bustling city centre.
The journey, as always, was part of the adventure! The train ride, smooth and sleek, took me across breathtaking scenery – rolling hills dotted with sleepy villages and dramatic castles perched high above the countryside. I was truly in fairytale land!
As soon as I arrived, I settled into my darling little boutique hotel, all exposed brick and twinkling fairy lights – it was positively magical! A quick change into my favourite pink polka dot dress, a spritz of my cherry blossom perfume and I was ready to explore!
The heart of Prague, like a perfect, decadent chocolate box, was a joy to discover! The Charles Bridge, a masterpiece of medieval architecture, beckoned me across the Vltava river with its stone statues and bustling life. The ancient Jewish Quarter, steeped in history, sent shivers down my spine, but in the most positive way, of course!
Naturally, I couldn't resist indulging in the charming cafés, sipping on fragrant, pink-hued raspberry tea as I watched the world go by.
The shops, oh the shops! My shopping bag grew heavy with Bohemian trinkets, hand-painted pottery, and an exquisite crystal pendant that caught the light like a shimmering star. I even discovered a delightful little vintage clothing boutique tucked away down a cobbled alley. I emerged with a beautiful, hand-stitched cream silk top – a true piece of vintage treasure, and perfect for a Bohemian ballerina!
A Ballerina’s Delight
Of course, no trip to Prague is complete without experiencing its ballet scene, so on the first night, I eagerly took my seat at the renowned National Theatre. This wasn't just any performance, my dears, but the grand finale of the Czech National Ballet season – a truly special event!
The production was simply divine. They performed Tchaikovsky’s classic “Sleeping Beauty”, a true ballet masterpiece that transported me to a land of dreams and enchantment. The set design was spectacular, the costumes glittering and resplendent, and the dancers, oh my, the dancers were a revelation! Such precision, grace, and heartfelt storytelling - it truly was ballet at its finest!
The beauty of their movements, the effortless fluidity of their leaps, the elegance of their every step, I was mesmerized! This performance left me utterly enchanted, with tears of joy running down my face as the final curtain fell. The whole experience had a magical quality - and even now, a week later, I still feel the echoes of those beautiful performances in my bones.
I'm not the only one to have fallen in love with the Czech National Ballet, by the way! Apparently, it’s one of the most sought-after ballet companies in Europe! The performers have travelled the globe, with appearances from London to New York – they truly are stars! And seeing them live in such an intimate, historic setting, was pure ballet bliss.
Pink Tutu Power in Prague
Throughout my Prague adventures, I found myself spreading a little pink tutu magic!
As I strolled across the Charles Bridge, I found myself the centre of a mini fashion show! Tourists gathered around, snapping photos, their smiles echoing the joy I felt as I danced across the cobblestone steps in my pastel pink tutu, twirling amongst the romantic statues and the sun-dappled bridges.
After the “Sleeping Beauty” performance, I was delighted to discover that my pink tutu had inspired a fellow ballet lover, a young woman from Vienna who, after watching the show, had decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a dancer! We spent a delightful afternoon chatting over coffee about everything ballet, comparing favourite ballets, and reminiscing over iconic tutu designs!
Even in a city that whispers of ancient legends and medieval lore, it seems my pink tutu was the catalyst for something quite special!
And my trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the grand National Theatre. The architecture of this building is so breathtaking! Standing tall against the Prague skyline, it’s like a monument to creativity and performance, just brimming with a contagious excitement and the buzz of artists bringing stories to life! It is certainly the crown jewel of the city, a place where history and culture come together in a most beautiful way.
Bohemian Ballerina’s Tip:
Don’t miss the view from the Prague Castle! The city spread out beneath, like a patchwork quilt of red roofs and shimmering churches, is simply spectacular. I found myself lost in the city’s rich history and mesmerised by the charm of its streets. I wandered amongst the enchanting buildings, soaking up the atmosphere and trying to capture its magic with my camera. It’s a view you’ll remember forever, and a perfect way to end your day in Prague!
And to all of you, my precious tutus, never underestimate the power of a pink tutu! In Prague, as everywhere else in the world, it brought joy, inspiration, and a dash of magic wherever it went!
Now, on to my next adventure! Keep checking back next week for another instalment from Pink Tutu World.
Until next Wednesday, my lovelies, may your days be filled with sunshine, laughter, and a little bit of pink!
Yours in Tutu Love, Emma
