Prague, My Dearest! (Blog Post #626)

Hello my darling tutu-loving lovelies! It's Wednesday again, so you know what that means! It's time for another Pink Tutu Prague blog post! And trust me, this one is pink-tastic!

This week, I've found myself whisked away to the enchanting city of Prague. Imagine it, my darlings! Cobblestone streets, charming cafes, gothic architecture… It's like stepping out of a fairytale. But my love for Prague goes beyond just the visual delights. There’s something truly magical about this city, a unique blend of history and vibrancy that truly captivates me.

Of course, as always, I couldn't resist slipping into my trusty pink tutu! The cobblestones felt amazing under my swirling layers of tulle. It felt like I was waltzing my way through centuries! Prague truly embraced my pink spirit! From the pink-hued buildings to the blooming rose gardens, I felt perfectly in sync with the city's rosy charm.

Speaking of pink, the moment I stepped off the train (yes, I arrived in Prague via train – my favourite mode of transport, as you all know!), I had to find myself a little Pink Tutu treat. I stumbled upon a charming little boutique called "The Lilac Lady", tucked away on a cobblestone street near the Charles Bridge. Imagine my delight! They had an array of pink-hued delights - everything from floral headbands and sequined brooches to vintage silk scarves and oh-so-pretty embroidered gloves. I simply had to buy myself a vintage rose-patterned handbag, to be my pinkest accessory in this beautiful city.

After a spot of retail therapy, I found myself at the legendary Prague National Theatre. Imagine my absolute joy at the prospect of watching a ballet performance! A real treat after all my touring and rehearsals! The Theatre, a stunning piece of architecture with neo-Renaissance flourishes, is a real symbol of Prague, standing proudly along the Vltava river, watching over the city, like a guardian angel. I made my way into the ornate theatre, awestruck by the opulent architecture and its magnificent auditorium.

The performance I chose was The Sleeping Beauty – a ballet classic that never fails to enchant. My inner ballerina couldn't have been happier! And I must confess, a tiny bit of me wished I was twirling in the spotlight, with the whole auditorium awestruck by my dancing. But honestly, I am happiest when watching incredible, talented dancers like the company here. Every twirl, every leap was executed with grace and precision. They were captivating!

And of course, as a self-proclaimed tutu enthusiast, I had to admire the intricate design of their costumes. Each dancer wore a beautifully crafted tutu - from the classic romantic tulle creations to the elaborate courtly gowns. Every detail, from the intricate embroidery to the shimmering sequins, told a story, transported me to a bygone era and left me simply spellbound. I wanted to learn all about the history of ballet and their gorgeous tutus! Luckily, the Prague National Theatre website offered just the answer. Apparently, this incredible building is where ballet tradition has lived for almost 200 years – a fascinating and incredible legacy.

And then came the grand finale, the breathtaking adagio as the Sleeping Beauty and Prince, performed beautifully. I don’t know about you, but there's something deeply romantic and magical about ballet that never ceases to capture my imagination.

I was truly mesmerized by the performance. The choreography, the artistry, the elegance - it all made for an evening I won't soon forget. The graceful movements of the dancers and the haunting beauty of the music transported me to a realm of dreams and enchantments. I was truly inspired!

Following my ballet escapade, I strolled around the Old Town Square, surrounded by the charm of historic Prague. Everywhere I looked, the city was pulsating with life! And everywhere I looked, people seemed to have embraced the spirit of creativity! I spotted street performers of all sorts - from musicians playing haunting melodies on violins, to dancers twirling around lampposts. The streets became an open-air stage for these vibrant artistic expressions. There's something captivating about these performers – so brave, so daring. Their love of the art and their sheer energy was infectious. It truly warmed my heart, reminding me that the world can be a beautiful stage, a platform for self-expression, for the pursuit of creativity.

I know this might surprise you, but my wanderlust took me on a very unexpected route: a traditional Bohemian folk music performance, tucked away in a cosy café. Now, you wouldn’t usually catch me at a folk music gig. However, the ambiance, the rich wooden beams, the sounds of violins and accordions weaving magical tales, the cosy atmosphere of the dimly lit café, drew me in like a moth to a flame!

To say the music was enchanting would be an understatement. There was something very special about the melodies – ancient yet vibrant. It transported me back in time, reminding me of the timeless stories of folk music, of communities gathered together through song and story. This incredible journey of music was just what I needed.

Speaking of journeys, I simply can't talk about Prague without mentioning the iconic Charles Bridge! My next stop! As a firm believer in walking everywhere, it felt magical to cross the cobbled bridge, marveling at the Baroque statues flanking the bridge. Each statue held a unique story, and each held me captive! I spent hours, slowly weaving my way along the bridge, capturing the moment, feeling the history, absorbing the energy of this majestic city.

And then, the grand finale! From the top of the Charles Bridge, I caught my first glimpse of the Prague Castle. A medieval marvel, the castle is the largest ancient castle complex in the world – quite an accomplishment, don’t you think? It is truly breathtaking – a regal fortress set on a hill overlooking the city. It looked like it had sprung straight from the pages of a history book. It's no wonder it’s listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It embodies Prague’s rich historical heritage – a tale told through stones, a monument to a vibrant past!

With each new day, Prague continued to enchant me. I made sure I caught every show I could, visited the numerous galleries filled with beautiful art, delved into every alley and café, relishing every charming detail. I soaked in the vibrant street culture, the local art scenes and the architectural delights!

There’s something about Prague – a combination of artistic heritage, captivating architecture, friendly locals and beautiful charm, that truly captured my heart. It felt like I was living my fairytale! I left the city, filled with happy memories and inspired by its energy.

Oh, I have to share a little secret. I spotted an exquisite shop where I managed to add a truly divine hand-painted porcelain ballerina to my collection, complete with a charming pink tutu! I’ve hung it in my Derbyshire studio and it makes me think of Prague every day.

Prague! You have stolen my heart! I simply can’t wait to come back, dance in your charming streets, admire your artistic brilliance and share another Pink Tutu adventure with all of you! Until next time my loves. I'll be sure to tell you all about it!

And remember… Pink is not just a colour. It's an attitude!

Your Pink Tutu Ballerina, Emma xxx
