Prague Calling: Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of a Hundred Spires!
Post #630 - Wednesday 23rd May, 2007 - Prague, Czech Republic
Hello my lovely Pink Tutu followers! I'm so thrilled to be back on my blog, fresh from an adventure in the stunning city of Prague! This week, my journey took me on a whirlwind tour of historical landmarks, delectable eats, and of course, glorious ballet performances. So, grab your favourite cuppa and settle in for a tale spun with a dash of pink, a touch of twirling, and plenty of Prague magic!
It's been a few weeks since my last blog post - you know how it is, a ballerina's life is never boring! The past few months have been jam-packed with performances, both on stage and in the streets (don't you just love those unexpected pop-up shows?) – I was even asked to be a guest dancer in a production of Swan Lake at the Derby Playhouse, which was simply divine. But this week, it's all about Prague!
A Train, a Pony, and a Dream:
As a devoted follower of the railways, I was overjoyed to hop on a comfortable sleeper train for this journey. I do enjoy the glamorous rush of flying, but there’s just something so magical about the gentle rhythm of the tracks and the endless landscape slipping past your window. Imagine: waking up to the sights and smells of a new city - pure bliss!
And to get here, I took a rather unusual side-trip. Did I tell you about my new furry companion? I’ve started training a little Shetland pony named Willow - she's an absolute sweetie! Willow helped me pull my baggage through a tiny Bavarian village nestled amongst the Alps, an experience I'll never forget. The sun was setting over snow-capped mountains, the air was crisp and fresh, and Willow was… well, just wonderful. It was almost like a scene straight out of a fairytale!
Prague: A Fairy Tale in Pink Tutu Form
Now, let's talk about Prague. Oh Prague, Prague! How I adore thee. The moment I stepped off the train, I was smitten by the sheer beauty of this city. Imagine charming cobblestone streets, gothic architecture, spires soaring skywards, and bridges spanning a crystal-clear river - this city feels like it's sprung straight from the pages of a fairy tale!
It’s almost impossible to walk anywhere in Prague without feeling like you've just stepped into a painting. Even the buildings here have an ethereal grace about them. And the colours! From warm honeyed tones to dusky pastels, they blend beautifully with the city's overall aesthetic. I can’t wait to explore every last nook and cranny!
Fashionable Footwear and Frock-tastic Finds:
I've already found some delightful places for my new Pink Tutu Prague wardrobe! Yesterday, I found myself browsing in a shop overflowing with exquisite, hand-stitched lace and silks - absolutely divine! Of course, I had to snag a few lengths of delicate fabric for my own design ideas – a touch of Prague charm for my collection, if you will. And did I mention I found the most perfect pair of dainty rose-gold ballet flats to add a touch of Prague sparkle to my already fab wardrobe? I am beyond excited to explore more local shops, soaking up all the exquisite fashion finds that this charming city has to offer.
The Magical World of Ballet
Now, what’s a Pink Tutu blog post without a touch of ballet? Oh, I have news that will send shivers of excitement down your spine (especially if you’re a fellow tutu enthusiast). There's a little gem nestled in the heart of Prague – the National Theatre. This architectural marvel has played host to legendary ballets and operas, and it’s one of the most famous and celebrated theatres in the world.
Tonight, I’m witnessing a special performance of “Giselle”, one of my absolute favourite ballets. I’ve been itching to see this classical story about love, betrayal, and supernatural enchantment performed in such a grand and historic setting!
Prague’s Heartbeat: Street Performance Magic
Of course, no ballet adventure is complete without some street performance action. Prague is overflowing with artistic flair, and I simply had to soak up the atmosphere in one of the city's vibrant public squares. Just yesterday, I witnessed a mesmerising performance by a group of dancers called the "Dancing Swans". Their graceful movements were breathtaking, and their energy was utterly infectious. Even I was tempted to join in! But I decided to hold back - imagine trying to perform with my tutu catching on the cobblestones - it’d be an embarrassing disaster. Maybe another time!
Prague: Food for the Soul
Okay, I’m not just here for ballet! You know my love for exploring different cultures goes beyond twirling. One of the first things I do in any new place is hit up the local eateries. I’m utterly in love with Prague’s charming cafés, traditional restaurants, and the aromas that fill every corner. There’s something truly delightful about grabbing a latte while watching locals stroll by, or tucking into a hearty plate of Czech cuisine while chatting with friendly locals.
I've already devoured a generous portion of delicious, steaming "trdelník", that iconic sweet pastry – heaven! I can’t wait to delve into Prague's food scene, so be sure to check in next week for a post dedicated to my favourite local discoveries!
Pink Tutu Diaries – A Continuation of the Prague Adventure:
Don’t forget to come back next week for more updates from my Pink Tutu adventure in Prague! I'll share more of my enchanting experiences, talk about my favorite discoveries, and offer you a glimpse into the exciting ballet world that's kept me so busy! Until next week, remember to wear pink, twirl freely, and let your spirit dance!
Love always, Emma, The Pink Tutu Ballerina.
