Prague, Oh Prague, You've Stolen My Heart! 🩰💖✨ (Post #641)

Hello my darling tutu-twirling readers!

It’s Wednesday, and that means a brand new Prague blog post is here to whisk you away to a world of romance, culture, and – of course – pink tutus!

Last week, I bid a fond farewell to Vienna, with its Imperial grandeur and waltzing tunes. Now, I'm embracing the bohemian spirit of Prague, a city that feels like a storybook sprung to life, with its cobblestone streets, charming squares, and ancient towers peeking into the sky.

This week's adventure is all about dancing into Prague's vibrant cultural scene! From the National Theatre, a majestic structure straight out of a fairytale, to the captivating performance I saw last night – Swan Lake by the Czech National Ballet – I've been swept up in a whirlwind of classical artistry and Parisian chic.

Oh, the tutu drama! I, of course, felt the need to wear my most glamorous tulle to the theatre. A cloud of soft pink with layers of ruffles, perfect for pirouetting across the Charles Bridge afterwards. A Parisian lady, who reminded me of the enchanting Genevieve from Gigi, commented on my attire, "Quelle beauté!" - which, in case you're wondering, is French for “What beauty!” (I'm trying to brush up on my foreign languages - après tout, you never know where a tutu might take you!)

A Fashionable Ballet Adventure

Before stepping into the magic of the National Theatre, we – yes, I dragged my mum along for this particular escapade – wandered through the old town, past Baroque churches and colourful houses. I spotted a few shops that just called out to my fashionista heart – and, needless to say, my shopping bag (and later my luggage) bulged with charming treasures.

A tiny vintage shop filled with lace, ribbons, and sparkly fabrics begged me to walk in. I emerged with enough embellishments to make a hundred tutus and my fingers itching to start creating. Speaking of which, a new collection for pink-tutu.com is already simmering in my mind, inspired by the gorgeous architecture and the rich cultural history I've been soaking up in Prague.

After all, it's not just about what's on the stage; it's about the whole ballet experience! Every detail matters – the graceful swish of your skirt, the sparkle of a brooch, the perfect pair of pointe shoes for twirling through the streets.

Tutus & Travel Tales: From Derbyshire to Prague

This entire trip was funded by my dance performances, which I just love. Every step, every plié, every jeté earns me the privilege of exploring these stunning places. I love that each city tells its story through dance. In Prague, it's a beautiful blend of history, romance, and the grace of a timeless art form. I am, after all, an ambassador for all things pink and tutu, spreading joy and whimsy across Europe!

The journey itself was an adventure. A trip to Prague by train always seems magical. I think it’s because the landscapes transform in the window. The English countryside morphs into the Dutch plains then on into the Czech Republic. Everything is a bit different, the colours, the textures, even the houses.

But don't worry – no trip to Prague is complete without a pony! The old city is best explored on foot, but the more rustic landscapes, with their storybook villages and dramatic castles, just beg for a leisurely ride. This is not quite as straightforward as it seems though - the carriages can only go along cobbled streets so finding suitable routes isn’t as easy as it may appear! But who would dare deny a pony ride?!

A Ballerina's Prague Diary:

Now, here's a sneak peek into my ballet-themed itinerary:

  • Wednesday: A quick practice session at the Taneční studio Praha (Prague Dance Studio) - keeping those pirouettes sharp, my darlings! Afterwards, a sumptuous dinner at a restaurant in the Old Town Square – Prague by night is simply breathtaking.
  • Thursday: Morning exploring the stunning Prague Castle. I managed to nab a backstage tour of the National Theatre. It's one of the most gorgeous venues I’ve ever seen – full of ornate gold leaf, swirling chandeliers, and the ghosts of countless ballets past. I even tried out a couple of moves on the stage. The echoes in the theatre made my jumps feel super powerful!
  • Friday: A little retail therapy for my wardrobe! Oh, and a ballet performance at the Ballet Theatre of Prague. I simply can't get enough!
  • Saturday: The Židovské Město (Jewish Quarter). It's such a poignant, beautifully preserved area – truly a testament to history and resilience.
  • Sunday: Indulging in Prague’s legendary street food - all those divine sausages! But of course, in my very own pink tutu, for that extra touch of grace. In the evening, I'm off to Divadlo Na zábradlí for another theatrical show.
  • Monday: Back to the National Theatre to catch Romeo and Juliet. Now that’s a story with some tutu drama!
  • Tuesday: Time for a trip outside the city, for a walk along the Vltava River. Prague really is like a film set! I’m already plotting ways to use this for some fabulous tutu shoots… And more pony riding. Yes, there’s never too much pony riding, as far as I'm concerned.

I’m still on a cloud, my darlings. Prague has such an enchanting charm. I think I have finally fallen for this city and I hope that my descriptions have conjured up at least some of its magical ambiance for you too.

Don’t forget, join me on my tutu adventures each week, as I waltz through Europe. I'll be back with more Prague tales, fashion finds, and (of course) lots of pink!

With all my love and pirouettes,

Emma 💖🩰
