Prague: The City of a Thousand Pink Tutues (Blog Post #668)

Hello my darling darlings, and welcome back to the pinkest, most twirly corner of the internet! This week, I'm beaming from the heart of Prague, a city that feels like it's been plucked straight from a fairytale. Think cobblestone streets, majestic castles perched atop rolling hills, and a fairytale atmosphere that would make Cinderella blush.

But let's not forget the most important part of my journey - the ballet, of course! The highlight of my trip so far has been a breathtaking performance at the Prague National Theatre. This stunning venue, with its grand chandeliers and velvet seats, transported me back to the golden age of ballet. The story was one I hadn't seen before - a tragic love affair set in 19th century Bohemia, and I must say, I was utterly spellbound!

Now, my darlings, I know what you're thinking: “Emma, wouldn't you rather be in your tutu on that stage?” And let me assure you, the thought has crossed my mind! But sometimes, the true magic of ballet lies in the experience of the audience.

Speaking of magic, Prague itself has an undeniable charm. I've been wandering through the winding alleys, exploring ancient churches, and of course, indulging in copious amounts of delicious Czech pastries. Honestly, it's like being in a dream!

I simply had to snag a few new items for my wardrobe. There's this enchanting little boutique tucked away on a quiet cobblestone street, filled with vintage pieces that are just begging to be twirled in. I've been collecting treasures, from a delicate antique lace collar to a chic pastel pink beret – it’s perfect for adding a touch of elegance to any ensemble.

However, no trip to Prague is complete without a visit to the city’s iconic Charles Bridge. Walking across this ancient structure, I could practically feel the weight of history under my feet. Imagine the countless stories that have unfolded upon this bridge – lovers meeting, traders bartering, and artists sketching scenes of beauty!

Oh, and let's not forget the horses! I've been yearning to ride one for ages, and guess what? There's a stunningly elegant stable nestled within the city. The staff treated me like royalty, and my majestic steed carried me through Prague’s romantic streets, making me feel like a princess. You just can't beat the feeling of the wind whipping through your hair while a beautiful, chestnut horse carries you through such an amazing city!

But before I wrap up, I must share a little secret about Prague: it’s obsessed with tutus! You see, while they're not exactly the "pink" tutus I'm all about, these intricate creations, called "balerína" here in Prague, are a staple for traditional folklore dance. These tutus have their own unique history, with designs inspired by the elaborate costumes of the imperial courts. And while they're usually adorned in vibrant colours, let's just say that with a little bit of pink paint… they’d fit perfectly into my world!

My travels haven’t just been about sightseeing. I've also had the pleasure of exploring a truly inspiring ballet academy here in Prague. From its airy studios filled with aspiring dancers to its walls adorned with timeless photographs, the energy of this school is electric. It's clear that ballet here in Prague is something truly special. I was even lucky enough to have a private lesson, learning the secrets behind their distinctive dance form – I’ve never spun so beautifully!

My darlings, this trip has been pure bliss. It's not just the fairytale atmosphere and the romantic cobblestones that make it special - it's the warmth and vibrancy of the city, the beauty of the performances I’ve seen, and the undeniable magic of exploring the fascinating history of dance. It's reminded me that even when we think we’ve seen it all, there are always new corners of the world to explore, new adventures to be had, and new tutus to discover!

But that's all for now. Be sure to join me next week for another whimsical adventure – we’ll be travelling through Europe’s beautiful countryside! Until then, happy twirling!
