Prague, Prague, Prague! A Pink Tutu Tour of the Magical City (Post #669)
Hello, my darling tutu enthusiasts! It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing, travel-obsessed ballerina Emma, reporting live from the breathtaking city of Prague. Yes, this week I've swapped my Derbyshire dance studio for the cobbled streets of Prague, and let me tell you, the magical atmosphere is intoxicating!
Pink Power In Prague
Prague's charm is undeniable, a beautiful blend of old-world charm and a vibrant, modern spirit. This city is practically begging to be explored, from the fairytale-like Prague Castle perched above the city, to the historic Charles Bridge adorned with Baroque statues and street performers, and the heart-stopping beauty of the Old Town Square, with its captivating Astronomical Clock. It truly feels like I've stepped into a romantic storybook.
Of course, being the dedicated pink-tutu fashionista that I am, I've already made a beeline for the shopping districts. Prague is a paradise for fashion lovers. Forget high street chains, this city boasts charming boutiques tucked into quaint cobbled lanes, showcasing Czech designers and international brands with a uniquely Parisian flair. And wouldn't you know it, I've already spotted a divine little pink beret (perfectly Parisian, right?!) and a whimsical tutu-inspired bag. I think it might even become the new star of my Instagram feed.
A Ballerina's Prague
Now, as you know, my true passion lies in the world of dance, so naturally, ballet is at the top of my Prague to-do list. And oh, my darling tutus, what a treat I have in store! This week's ballet performance at the National Theatre is a must-see! The programme is an exhilarating mix of Czech and international choreography, and rumour has it that the costuming is to die for โ just the kind of creative expression I adore. It seems Prague is not only known for its breathtaking architecture but also for its ballet scene! I cannot wait to be swept away by the artistry, elegance, and sheer brilliance of this evening.
Speaking of ballet, have I told you about the amazing National Ballet Company of the Czech Republic? Their history dates back to the 18th century, which makes me positively giddy thinking about the sheer number of tutus that must have graced their stage over the years! They are renowned for their innovative performances and their dedication to the traditional and the contemporary. The Czech Republic has such a rich ballet history, it's simply inspiring!
Following in the Footsteps of Tutu History
My travels to Prague wouldn't be complete without a little tutu history tour! I'm already picturing myself skipping through the streets with my tutu twirling, searching for whispers of the past. The Old Town Square, the heart of Prague, has witnessed so many historical events, including some incredibly glamorous ballets back in the day! The thought of tutus floating across these very cobblestones sends shivers down my spine (in a good way, of course!).
Speaking of history, did you know the tutu's origins can be traced back to the 19th century? Back then, they were worn by women at social events. It's amazing how a garment once worn for social occasions evolved into a symbol of grace, strength, and artistic expression on the ballet stage. Now, the tutu is not just for ballerinas; it's a statement of confidence and a symbol of feminine power that has made its way into fashion, music, and art โ even street fashion! I've been seeing tutus everywhere lately, from catwalks to concert halls, even worn as chic accessories, and it fills my pink-loving heart with glee!
Getting There by Train and Pony
Of course, getting to Prague was half the fun! Travelling by train has a certain vintage charm that really appeals to my tutu-loving heart. This time, I decided to make it extra special and hop on a historic steam train journey โ imagine all that beautiful, billowing smoke! I'm not ashamed to admit, I might have even felt a pang of jealousy towards the steam train, wishing I could wear its plume of smoke like a gorgeous tutu train! But then, I reminded myself, that the most stylish train journeys are the ones I take wearing my beloved pink tutu.
For the final leg of my journey, I took a whimsical approach. A friendly farmer with a charming smile let me hitch a ride on his pony โ the kind of adventure I just can't resist! This is, after all, the kind of trip that calls for a little whimsy and charm. It felt like a fairytale come to life, and let's face it, what ballerina doesn't adore a bit of fairytale magic? And hey, if my grandmothers could get around in a horse and cart, a pony and cart for a chic ballet enthusiast in the 21st century isn't that far-fetched! Besides, it was much quicker than attempting to pack my tutu-filled suitcase onto a tiny horse-drawn cart!
