Prague Calling: Tutu-ing Around the City of a Hundred Spires - Post #690
Wednesday, July 16th, 2008
Greetings, darlings! Emma here, reporting live from the magical city of Prague. The cobblestone streets, the ornate architecture, the twinkling lights… this place truly feels like stepping into a fairytale.
I just finished a lovely performance with the National Theatre Ballet company, and I’m utterly buzzing. The stage was exquisite, a glorious symphony of light and shadow, and the audience was completely rapt. After the bows, a lovely gentleman from the audience – dressed impeccably, I must say, in a charmingly-old fashioned cravat – asked me if I was the "Pink Tutu Ballerina." How adorable! I confess, my heart skipped a beat. Perhaps, even a grand jeté in my excitement.
Of course, my answer was an enthusiastic "Yes, indeed!" – with a slight flourish of my pink tulle. He was most delighted and thanked me for the enchanting performance.
It truly does my heart good to see my pink tutu inspire others. Every time I see a spark in someone’s eyes when they look at my tulle, it reminds me why I dance. It's more than just movement and music – it's a celebration of life, beauty, and joy! And, dare I say, a tad of playful eccentricity. After all, who wouldn't be a little bit happier in a twirly pink tutu?
The Grand Adventure Continues!
But this journey isn't just about the performances. It's also about exploring the vibrant tapestry of this magnificent city. Last week, I indulged in a spot of shopping for the perfect tutu companion to this beautiful Prague cityscape. My gaze was captured by a charming little boutique nestled between the charming cobblestone streets. Its name: "Tulle & Threads". Talk about serendipity! I emerged, with a new ballet-inspired silk scarf for my wardrobe and a skip in my step.
The fashion scene in Prague is captivating – a delightful blend of traditional Czech flair and modern trends. I’ve even spotted a few brave souls rocking tutus, perhaps inspired by my presence, perhaps just naturally stylish! I must say, they wear them with flair and panache! But that’s what I love about fashion; there are no hard and fast rules. It’s all about finding your own expression, your own confidence.
And speaking of expression, I can't resist indulging in a little bit of artistic inspiration myself. A local artist at the Charles Bridge was capturing the city’s beauty with vibrant brushstrokes on his easel, and I had to get a peek! I found myself in conversation with this captivating artist – an artistic conversation which included everything from the dance of colours on canvas to the history of Czech folklore. My pink tutu, as ever, sparked an instant connection and ignited a charming discussion. I walked away from the conversation inspired. And, perhaps, a little more enamoured by this breathtaking city!
Pink Tutu Adventures on Rails and Ponies!
But a tutu-wearing ballerina isn’t just about fancy dress, it’s about the adventure of life. And adventure for me in Prague means hopping on a train and heading out to the surrounding countryside.
A short trip by train from Prague's main station will lead you to a magical world of rolling hills, charming villages, and ancient castles. I found a charming, picturesque town nestled amongst vineyards and lush forests – a true fairytale setting. The quaint streets are lined with beautifully decorated cafes, and cobblestone pathways wind through lush, manicured gardens. There I enjoyed the sweetest cream cake in a delightful cafe overlooking the breathtaking views. It felt like I'd stepped back in time - just what this ballerina needed to revitalise and recharge my creative energy.
After all that cultural exploration and indulging my inner fashionista, I've decided to spend a lovely afternoon at a nearby equestrian centre. Riding a magnificent chestnut pony - a gentle creature with the kindest eyes you ever did see - has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember! Now, in this stunningly beautiful setting, I had the opportunity to truly embody the graceful movements that translate between the dance studio and horseback.
A long, leisurely ride through the enchanting forest trails truly connected me to this beautiful, magical place. It’s a reminder that sometimes the simplest things in life offer the greatest joy – and the purest beauty. And maybe, just maybe, my little Pink Tutu may just make it a little bit more magical!
I hope you all are having a wonderful Wednesday, wherever you are! Don’t forget to share your tutu stories – I’d love to hear them! And remember, the world is a much brighter, more joyous place when everyone embraces a bit of pink tutu spirit!
Until next Wednesday,
Your Emma, the Pink Tutu Ballerina
