Pink Tutu Prague: A Fairy Tale Adventure in the City of a Hundred Spires!

Post #700: Wednesday, 24th September 2008

Hello my lovelies! Welcome to another fabulous Wednesday instalment of Pink Tutu Prague! It's been a whirlwind week here in this utterly charming city, and I just know you'll be utterly delighted by all the goings-on! Grab your teacup and a biscuit, settle in, and let's delve into the whimsical world of Emma and the pink tutu!

From Derbyshire to Prague: A Journey by Pony & Train

This week's adventure began with a trip down memory lane – a trip to see my darling Gran in Derbyshire! Yes, I know, it might sound bonkers, but I'm a country girl at heart. There's something utterly calming about breathing in fresh air and watching the sheep graze in the rolling hills. And besides, Gran keeps the best biscuits in the world!

Of course, no trip to Derbyshire is complete without a pony ride! My beloved horse, Sparky, is a majestic creature with a mane the colour of sunset. He’s my steadfast companion, and there’s nothing like galloping through fields with the wind whipping through your hair. It was a bittersweet farewell, though, because the next morning I was off to the railway station.

Speaking of train journeys, have you ever seen anything more beautiful than a Prague train station? The old-fashioned architecture and intricate tiling were truly breathtaking. The whole atmosphere whispered of long-ago adventures and fairy tales, just waiting to be discovered!

Prague – Where the Ballet Meets History

Now, onto Prague, the jewel of Bohemia! I'm utterly smitten with this place. From the whimsical cobblestone streets to the breathtaking architecture, the whole city has an irresistible charm. The buildings themselves are works of art, covered in carvings and painted with hues of rose and gold. It’s like stepping into a fairytale.

This city simply begs to be explored! My trusty little notebook is overflowing with places to see and sights to behold. From the majestic Prague Castle and the poignant Jewish Quarter to the picturesque Charles Bridge and the lively Old Town Square – there’s a wealth of history and beauty just waiting to be uncovered.

And what could be more magical than discovering the heart of this beautiful city by pony, I hear you ask?! Well, there was a teeny, tiny, weeny problem. Unfortunately, no one allows horses on public transport, nor can you ride them on the cobbled streets. Luckily, there are all these rather delightful tram and subway networks in Prague!

Pink Tutu Prague: A Ballet Lover’s Dream!

Of course, as a devoted dancer, my ultimate passion here in Prague is the ballet. On the 24th of September, I found myself at the National Theatre, eagerly anticipating a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. It was magical!

The sheer beauty of the theatre itself transported me to a different era – think grand chandeliers, intricate velvet curtains, and a gilded stage. Then, the music started, and the entire auditorium came alive. The ballerinas, dressed in elegant white tutus, were breathtakingly graceful as they glided across the stage, every move telling a story of love and loss. I could feel the emotion radiating from the performers – it was absolutely captivating!

Now, let’s talk fashion, because no post is complete without some glorious style inspiration! I wore my favourite pink tutu for the occasion, of course. To make the look even more grand, I paired it with a vintage silk blouse and sparkling ruby heels. The pink tutu truly pops against the ornate backdrop of the National Theatre. I also picked up a darling feather boa at a delightful antique shop; the feathers were the same shade of pink as my tutu! I absolutely recommend visiting the Old Town Square to shop for these treasures - I'm planning on coming back for a whole week dedicated just to vintage shopping!

Ballet Everywhere!

You don’t need to wait for a performance at the National Theatre to see ballet in Prague, you can literally find it everywhere! There were so many gorgeous street performances happening, especially near Charles Bridge. The air was filled with beautiful melodies and enchanting figures twirling in the dappled sunshine. One evening, I even witnessed a spectacular performance of Giselle at the grand Municipal House – and the acoustics of that building are incredible. It felt like the music was playing all around me, filling every space and making me feel like I was inside a magic box!

A Pink Tutu Moment:

Now, for my favourite part of the trip… I saw a group of young dancers practicing in a park! Their smiles were bright, and their energy was contagious. After all the ballet I’ve seen this week, I couldn’t resist sharing my love of pink tutus with them. I ran into the shop in the park and grabbed the prettiest pink tutu I could find and gave it to one of the dancers, then proceeded to dance with them! It felt wonderful – watching them embrace their inner fairy princess!

You know what, my darlings? My dream is for every little girl (and even a few brave boys!) to experience the sheer joy of dancing in a pink tutu! Maybe, one day, we can have a mass tutu wearing day and bring some extra joy to the world. Wouldn’t that be a beautiful vision?!

Until next week, darling readers, don’t forget to keep those toes tapping and those dreams sparkling! Remember, life is a ballet - full of elegance, beauty, and above all - grace!

Love, Emma
