Prague Calling: Tutu Time in the Czech Capital (Blog Post #709)

Wednesday 26th November 2008

Bonjour, lovelies!

It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-loving ballerina, and I'm positively bursting with excitement to share my latest adventure with you! This week, I've flown the nest and ventured to the heart of Europe, the magnificent Prague! Imagine me, darling, my trusty pink tutu swishing in the breeze, skipping through cobbled streets, a little bit of Derbyshire sunshine in this breathtakingly beautiful city.

Journey to the East:

I'm all about embracing a bit of the "Grand Tour", and I opted for a gloriously scenic train journey from our little slice of Derbyshire. Imagine, a comfy carriage, steaming along, passing rolling hills and medieval villages, all with the perfect view to inspire some impromptu tutus! I might have just squeezed in a little plié on the way - the sway of the carriage, so elegant! The whole experience made me think about the iconic tutu, of course! Back in the 1800s, you'd be travelling in a horse-drawn carriage, so in some ways I've had an even more glamorous time. Imagine how much drama it would add to your tutu - wouldn't it simply be breathtaking to swoosh into the station!

First Glimpse of Prague:

Then, voila! Prague, you beautiful thing! From the moment I arrived, my senses were in overdrive - the rich smells of freshly baked bread and strong coffee, the rhythmic clang of trams, and oh, the architecture! Every building felt like a fairy tale come true. Prague, you certainly are a picture-postcard city and every bit as beautiful as I'd hoped!

Fashion Frenzy:

First things first, darlings. After unpacking, naturally, I took a whirlwind tour through the old town, soaking up the charming boutiques and antique shops, with an eye on adding to my growing tutu collection! I stumbled upon a stunning little shop overflowing with vintage lace, ribbons, and the most delicate pearls you ever did see - pure tutu-making heaven! My darling friends, I couldn't resist. There was this most elegant pink satin ribbon, you know, just begging to be woven into my latest creation. Oh, the thrill!

Ballet Beauty:

But my Prague adventure wasn't just about fashion! You know, my dear ones, it would be remiss of me to visit Prague without exploring the ballet scene, and I must say, I was blown away! There's a certain something special about ballet in a city with so much history - each twirl feels even more dramatic against a backdrop of centuries-old buildings. The National Theatre was my first port of call and I just knew my tutu was ready for the spotlight. I loved the spectacle and I was totally enchanted by the dancers, such graceful and magical beings!

Dancing Through the Streets:

No matter how much I enjoyed the official shows, I simply had to bring the magic of ballet out onto the streets! That same night, after dinner, I was twirling amongst the cobblestone streets, imagining myself a ballerina straight out of an old-fashioned fairytale. Imagine, darling, my pink tutu bouncing against the warm brick walls! The music might not have been the official score of "Swan Lake," but Prague is its own melody!

A Little Something Extra:

For those of you wanting a dose of Prague's magic, here are a couple of little things to try while you're here:

  • Embrace the Past: Step back in time with a horse-drawn carriage ride. Yes, it’s a cliché, but it’s absolutely magical. You'll feel like you’ve been whisked into a novel!

  • Cafe Time: Treat yourself to some Czech pastries in one of the cosy, historic cafes. Indulge your inner ballerina with some cakes so exquisite, they practically make themselves!

  • Stroll and Swoon: Simply wander the narrow cobbled streets, letting your senses lead the way. You can’t go wrong – this city is stunning at every turn.

And for my ballet besties, a little tip, darling. Head over to the National Theatre. You'll be captivated by the exquisite performances and breathtaking scenery. Don’t forget to check out their website – I’ve found a schedule for the next few months. I may be on a tutu quest to travel to as many ballet venues as possible. After all, ballet’s not just a passion, it's a lifestyle!

Until next time…

Prague, you’ve cast your spell! But before I succumb to all your wonders, it’s time to catch my train back to Derbyshire. Until next time, darling friends, I’ll be leaving you with a gentle reminder. Pink tutus make everything better. Let your tutu fly high and wear it with pride!

Yours in twirls and whispers,

Emma
