Prague Perfection: Pink Tutu Goes to the Ballet (Blog Post #712)

Hello my lovely tutu-twirling friends! It’s Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-clad ballet enthusiast, beaming back at you from the enchanting city of Prague! I’m officially on holiday (finally!) and feeling ridiculously giddy about it all.

This week’s post comes to you live from Prague – a city so beautiful it practically sings in waltz time. As I type, the sound of cobbled streets gently murmuring underfoot fills the air, blending perfectly with the rhythmic tinkling of tram bells. Just picture it: a perfect pink sunset reflecting in the Vltava River, the scent of roasted chestnuts filling the air, and yours truly – a vibrant vision in pink, twirling amongst it all.

Now, for those of you who’ve been following my adventures for a while, you know how much I adore Prague. It’s simply breathtaking: the Gothic spires reaching for the heavens, the storybook charm of the old town, and the echoes of history that reverberate from every corner. But this time, I’m here for a particular reason: ballet!

My passion for ballet is like a perfectly executed pirouette: constant and beautiful! But for me, the magic of ballet is not just about graceful leaps and fluid movements. It’s also about the stories these dances tell, the emotion they evoke, and the way they transport you to another time and place.

Pink Tutu Goes Exploring:

So, the very first thing I did when I arrived was find the National Theatre – the grand dame of Prague's theatrical scene. It’s an absolute stunner, complete with intricate mosaics, elegant columns, and a majestic grand staircase fit for a ballerina! Just seeing this grand structure got me so excited for the shows to come!

After a quick, whirlwind tour (including an essential pit-stop for some delectable Prague pastries – oh, the delights!) I headed for the ballet studio where I’m booked to teach a beginner's class.

I always try to teach when I’m travelling; it's a lovely way to give back and experience a city from a different angle. Seeing the excited faces of the students - and of course their dedication to perfecting the plié - just reinforces how much I love sharing my love of ballet!

Speaking of dedication – I discovered the most fabulous vintage costume shop on the Old Town Square, tucked away in a tiny courtyard. I absolutely adore digging through vintage fabrics and treasures. The lady who runs it told me her father was a professional dancer. I imagine she has a wealth of fascinating tales, though her English wasn’t quite up to the task of deciphering my excited questions!

The Grand Finale: A Ballet Night to Remember

But let’s get to the real reason I’ve travelled all the way to Prague… Tonight, the National Theatre is hosting a truly spectacular production of Swan Lake. I just cannot wait to immerse myself in this classic story of love, betrayal, and the graceful elegance of swan choreography.

For this evening’s performance, I've chosen a pink tulle tutu with hand-stitched pink rose detailing and shimmering embellishments. This is the most magical tutu I own, perfect for evoking that fairytale atmosphere of Swan Lake. You’ll just have to see for yourself when I post pictures tomorrow on pink-tutu.com – keep an eye out!

Tonight, the enchanting world of the ballet promises to sweep me off my feet and leave me with memories I’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Before I head off, let’s take a moment to talk tutus – after all, no trip to Prague (or anywhere else!) is complete without a little tulle! This gorgeous city makes me think of a beautiful and elaborate pink, ruffled, layered tutu that you might see a fairy princess wearing – just waiting for her Prince!

You know, I have an absolute passion for tutu history – I mean, what could be more enchanting than seeing dancers pirouette in the elegance of such beautiful, floating tutus.

Let’s take a little trip back in time! Before the elegant form of the ballet tutu we know and love, ladies danced in rather bulky gowns – so much more impractical! It’s amazing how quickly and effortlessly tulle caught on. The Italian dancer Marie Taglioni brought ballet to its true potential in the mid 19th century, embracing tulle and making ballet performances more athletic and free! What an inspiring lady!

This brings me back to the reason why I’m on this magical journey. Every dance, every outfit, every time I see a pink tutu, I’m reminded of this. We all have the power to dance to our own rhythm. I firmly believe that every one of you is capable of becoming a pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-loving warrior, a vision of joy and grace.

Well, friends, I have to dash – this evening’s performance awaits! And don’t worry, I’ll be back tomorrow with a full rundown of the show. Until then, keep twirling!

Emma xoxo
