Pink Tutu Prague: Post #819 - Dancing Through History with a Pink Tutu!
Hello lovelies!
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another installment of my Pink Tutu Prague adventures! I'm back in my little flat, sipping a steaming mug of hot chocolate and reflecting on a week filled with ballet, beautiful sights, and an exciting discovery about the history of my beloved tutus!
Before we get to the exciting stuff, let's have a quick chat about my journey here! You see, darling, I hopped on a train from the Derbyshire countryside and whizzed through the quaint English countryside. Imagine rolling hills, cute thatched cottages, and charming village pubs - it’s utterly idyllic! But don’t you worry, my dears, I haven’t completely traded in my heels for wellies. This trip is about adventure!
My train journey was filled with dreamy visions of cobblestone streets and fairytale castles – Prague, you're calling to me! My pink tutu (this one's a lovely peach shade, I think it’s a nod to the local peaches) was itching for an adventure, and I had just the thing planned for today… the Národní Divadlo!
I'm talking, of course, about Prague's glorious National Theatre, the place that truly brings opera and ballet to life. And it's just around the corner from my lovely little flat. Talk about convenient! Now, some people might think it's a bit odd, rocking up to the theatre in a pink tutu. But, let me tell you, Prague is a place that embraces the quirky!
But darling, it was the Ballet National that I was actually there for! You can bet I was thrilled to be watching some of the finest ballet dancers in the Czech Republic – these men and women are just magical! I can still hear the strains of the orchestra in my head, and I feel like I can still feel the pulse of the city outside, buzzing with life even in the frosty winter air.
The programme included a beautifully haunting contemporary piece, "Echoes of Silence." The choreography was just breathtaking, with each movement echoing the quiet melancholy of the piece. But I truly adored the finale, a charming adaptation of Stravinsky’s 'The Firebird', a magical blend of music, colourful costumes and sheer theatrical skill. I even managed to capture a few photos for Instagram - let’s be honest, they’re simply bursting with fairytale glamour, and I can't wait for you to see them!
Tutus on the Stage... and on the Street!
The Ballet National performance got me thinking about how much I love the history of dance and ballet costumes! The story behind the tutu is particularly fascinating - you might not know it, but the origins of the tutu can be traced right back to the Romantic era in the 1800s! Talk about dramatic! Imagine delicate, billowing tulle and ballerina dancers, twirling effortlessly across the stage, creating an ethereal illusion of weightlessness – it’s simply exquisite!
Speaking of tutus, I had a most lovely adventure the day after my performance – an utterly delightful visit to Prague’s exquisite Old Town Square, right at the heart of Prague! Now, I'm no stranger to city explorations, and the first thing that struck me was how the cobbled streets seemed to be designed for swirling pirouettes. I can just imagine the elegant dance troupes, swishing their graceful tutus and prancing along those medieval alleys. Just imagining it sent a thrill through me!
Oh darling, Prague truly has an enchanting spirit that weaves through its architecture and spills out into its heart. Everywhere I looked, there were echoes of history and an almost palpable sense of creative energy. A beautiful ballet in itself, if you ask me! I simply must tell you about the magnificent astronomical clock in the heart of the square – an extraordinary feat of clockmaking brilliance! The clock tells the time of day, month, and year. Each hour on the hour, the clock has a stunning parade of apostles, complete with the skeleton of Death, ringing the bell and adding an element of mystery to this magnificent timepiece. I can tell you it is well worth catching, especially when the crowd goes silent to watch its little dance, like I did.
A Day Filled with Pink & Positivity
I couldn’t leave Prague without venturing into some of its many delightful boutiques. The fashion scene here is, well, fabulous, with boutiques selling everything from chic Bohemian style to quirky vintage treasures. One charming store, "Vintage Prague," even had a selection of hand-knitted tutus, crafted by a local designer - absolutely charming! Of course, I picked up a couple for my own collection – you’ve got to keep that tutu game strong, haven't you?
That night, after exploring the city’s stunning beauty, I settled into my tiny but lovely little apartment with a good book (it was about the famous dancers of the Ballet Russes, darling!), a glass of bubbly, and a lovely view of the city bathed in soft winter light. It felt as though Prague had put its magical spell on me! And so, dear reader, I’m ready for a wonderful night's sleep to recharge my ballerina spirit for another adventure tomorrow.
But darling, before I go, don't forget – life's a dance!
Embrace your own sparkle and spread that pink tutu love wherever you go. And, my lovely ladies, if you find yourselves in Prague, take a stroll through the cobblestone streets and dream with me!
Love,
Emma
