Pink Tutu Prague: Post #946 - A Whirlwind of Beauty and Bows

Wednesday, 12th June 2013

Oh darling! Prague, you are simply bewitching! A whirlwind of cobblestone streets, stunning architecture, and delicious, cheesy goulash, I've been utterly smitten with this city since stepping off the train from Vienna. You know me, always a fan of a good train journey, especially in such romantic surrounds, with its plush seats, endless countryside vistas, and the promise of a new adventure. And Prague, you truly have delivered!

Speaking of deliveries, did you know the word "Prague" originates from the Czech word “Praha” meaning "threshold"? I must say, this threshold has led me straight into a haven for all things fashion, food, and fabulous, much like the enchanting, pastel pink ballet shoes I slipped into today for a delightful ballet class.

Of course, no journey to Prague would be complete without a touch of ballet magic, wouldn't you agree? Tonight, I’m thrilled to be heading to the beautiful National Theatre, where I shall be enjoying a performance by the esteemed National Ballet Theatre. The programme features two breathtaking pieces, “La Bayadère” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, both guaranteed to take my breath away. (I'm particularly looking forward to those elaborate, feathery tutus in “La Bayadère”! It's like they were made just for me!)

Before we dive into the balletic wonders that await us tonight, let's chat about the magnificent city that’s already captivated my heart. My afternoon was a pure symphony of indulgence. Shopping in the Old Town Square, I was practically in heaven amidst the vibrant stalls bursting with handcrafted jewellery, Bohemian crystals, and those exquisitely patterned fabrics, just waiting to be sewn into a glamorous new ballet skirt (think soft layers of pink silk, of course). Oh, and speaking of shopping, you absolutely must explore the hidden treasures tucked away in the little shops along the Certova Street. My recent find? A beautiful hand-painted vintage fan that is just screaming for its chance to become the centrepiece of my next ballet performance outfit.

Naturally, after such shopping frenzy, I rewarded myself with the most delectable (and quite frankly, enormous) pastry I’ve ever seen! The scent of fresh vanilla and caramelised sugar filled the air as I approached the charming bakery, almost like a fragrant invitation. I opted for the “Trdelník,” a Czech pastry baked around a wooden rod and dusted with cinnamon and sugar. I admit, the pink tutu was slightly compromised while devouring this masterpiece, but hey, a little pink frosting is the perfect way to add a dash of ballet to any snack!

Now, on to the theatre. Tonight, Prague’s magic takes its final bow as we embark on a journey to the enchanting world of ballet, each movement, each flourish, a poignant tapestry woven with artistry, grace, and pure artistry.

But before I go, my lovelies, tell me! What are your favourite destinations for a cultural escapade? Do share your tips and favourite ballet spots in the comments below!

Yours in tutus and travels,

Emma
