Prague: Pink Tutu Takes on the City of a Hundred Spires - Blog Post #983
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, reporting live from Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires. A few weeks ago, I found myself twirling through the cobblestone streets, feeling as if I had stepped right out of a fairytale, my pink tutu catching the warm, late February sunshine.
You might be thinking, Prague in February?! Why, yes, darlings, it's most definitely worth braving the chill! I'm finding that even when it's a bit chilly outside, there is still so much to love about this enchanting city. The architecture, the atmosphere, the coffee shops... It's simply glorious. But more about the city in a bit! First, let's talk about what really drew me to Prague... The ballet, of course!
Pragueās Dance MagicThis week, Iām indulging my love of dance with a performance by the Pink Tutu Ballet! (They really have a flair for the dramatic, don't they? Haha!) No, darlings, itās not my ballet company, just a name I came across that made me giggle. The Prague National Theatre boasts a ballet company with a rich history and talent. I couldnāt miss this opportunity! After all, ballet has always been such a passion of mine, right from my days twirling in my little pink tutu at the Derbyshire Dance Academy.
I actually adore learning about ballet history. The history of the tutu is truly fascinating! I particularly love the early Romantic period tutus. Can you imagine how incredibly elegant and beautiful those tulle tutus must have been? I dream of owning one, but until then, Iām happy to live vicariously through the National Theatreās dancers.
The National Theatreās Ballet PerformanceThis week's ballet performance was something out of a dream. I settled into the plush, red velvet seats, and the atmosphere felt electric with anticipation. As the curtain rose, I was swept away by the sheer grace and power of the dancers.
This evening's programme was a truly diverse one. We were treated to some classics: Tchaikovskyās Swan Lake, where the swans literally took flight across the stage! They looked so beautiful and graceful! Oh, how I longed to be up there, flitting about as a graceful bird myself! Then there was Giselle, which brought tears to my eyes. The drama was so real, and the choreography, utterly divine.
And of course, no ballet performance would be complete without a healthy dose of humour! We laughed out loud during La Sylphide. The delicate, playful steps and whimsical story left me feeling as though I was walking through a delightful fantasy.
I swear, it felt like the dancers were spinning right before my very eyes. The movements were simply breathtaking. And, darling, how can I forget the costumes! Absolutely exquisite, especially the tutu on the main ballerina! Iām always so inspired by those dancers and their beautiful costumes, from the tutu, to the pointe shoes, to everything else. Oh, I dream of one day making it onto a stage myself, and, hopefully, with my own little Pink Tutu company, bringing the joy of ballet to the world.
Fashion finds in PragueYou know how much I love indulging in some lovely fashion, darling! So of course, Prague was not going to disappoint! You know I am a real sucker for anything pink, especially if it's tulle or lace!
The quaint shops here in Prague offer a wonderland of unique pieces. From vintage shops bursting with silk scarves and lace blouses, to trendy boutiques showcasing the latest in Bohemian style. I had a most splendid afternoon flitting from shop to shop, picking up a gorgeous pink scarf adorned with silver tassels for myself, and a beautiful porcelain doll dressed in a tiny, white tutu as a gift for my niece. (A little bit of pink tutu inspiration for the next generation, right?)
You know I do like to dress the part, especially when exploring a new city. I paired my usual trusty pink tutu with a navy blue velvet jacket and knee-high black boots. This combination brought a touch of glamour and whimsy to my Prague exploration.
Indulging in the Culture of PragueOnce Iād satisfied my shopping urges, I treated myself to a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a slice of cake in a charming, little cafĆ© nestled amongst the winding, cobbled streets of Prague's Old Town. And what a lovely afternoon that turned out to be. I sat on the outside terrace, people-watching and absorbing the city's vibrant energy. Prague was buzzing with a mixture of tourists, locals, and a vibrant cultural scene that really brought it to life.
And I couldn't possibly leave Prague without indulging in the delicious Czech food! I tried my hand at a traditional āKnedlĆkyā with pork stew ā and let me tell you, it was absolutely divine!
Prague has so much more to offer than its enchanting architecture and delicious food ā there are endless museums, art galleries, and even an adorable mini zoo with penguins! But perhaps my favourite part about this city is simply soaking up the atmosphere. Every corner offers a delightful photo opportunity. Imagine: cobblestone streets, colourful buildings, and a charming pink tutu ballerina flitting through it all!
It was here that I had a chance encounter that Iāll never forget. A little girl, maybe six or seven years old, saw me strolling along, my pink tutu swaying with every step, and she ran towards me, eyes shining with delight! She exclaimed, āWow, you look just like a real ballerina!ā Her innocent admiration brought a smile to my face and a little twinkle to my heart. Isnāt that the most beautiful compliment youāve ever heard?
That, darling, is why I am doing what Iām doing, bringing the joy of the pink tutu, and all the happiness it represents to the world.
Next Weekās Adventure: From Prague to Berlin by TrainI can't wait to see what magic the next week holds! Iāll be hopping on a train, as always (I do adore a good train journey!) and making my way to the beautiful, exciting, vibrant city of Berlin. Stay tuned, darling, for more pink tutu adventures!
