Pink Tutu Prague: Whirlwind of Romance & Rose Quartz! 💖🩰✨
Blog Post #993 - Wednesday, May 7th, 2014
Hello darlings! 💖
As you all know, this is my weekly Prague post, so here it is! A whirlwind of culture, coffee, and yes, of course, tulle! 💃✨
I’ve been living it up in this incredible city, my heart filled to bursting with the excitement of exploring its every cobbled street and hidden gem.
But let me backtrack just a bit. You see, I made my grand arrival in Prague by train, which, of course, was a very glamorous affair, thanks to my perfectly pink ensemble, featuring a gorgeous blush-hued vintage lace dress I snagged from a charming boutique in Paris, and a delicate tulle shawl (with a subtle hint of glitter, naturally!). ✨
After settling into my gorgeous hotel room, which just screamed fairytale romance (seriously, think canopy beds and Juliet balconies overlooking the Charles Bridge!), I decided to explore Prague's charming old town.
Oh my, darlings! It was like stepping into a fairytale! Everywhere I looked there was beauty – the pastel-coloured houses, the ornate clock tower, the meandering river Vltava reflecting the stunning Prague Castle... It's truly breathtaking! 💕
My first stop? The adorable Café Sladkovský on the Old Town Square, a place dripping with charm, offering delectable pastries and a plethora of fragrant teas. I opted for a creamy chamomile tea with a sprinkle of rose petals – just the right pick-me-up for this afternoon adventure. ☕️🌸
After a rather delightful caffeine fix, I embarked on a grand walking tour of Prague, marveling at the sheer magic of it all! It was here that I had the most incredible discovery! 🤫 Imagine my delight upon stumbling upon the National Theatre, a stunning architectural masterpiece showcasing breathtaking Neo-Renaissance architecture! Imagine my further delight upon realising they were hosting the exquisite Giselle later this evening! 🥰
Well, of course, I couldn't pass up the chance to indulge in some fine ballet! I whisked back to the hotel to change into my absolute favourite pink tulle tutu - it perfectly complimented the vibrant fuchsia ballet pumps I picked up at a fabulous vintage shop on the way! 💖
Ballet in Prague: Giselle, Giselle, Giselle! 🩰
As the lights dimmed and the orchestra began their mesmerizing melodies, I felt a wave of enchantment wash over me. 💫 Giselle, that quintessential story of love, betrayal, and a bittersweet farewell to earth, transported me to another realm.
It's incredible to think that Giselle had its premiere here in Prague, at this very theatre, all those years ago! 🩰🎭 It's a testament to the timeless allure of ballet, captivating audiences for generations. The story unfolds like a dream, and the dance is truly masterful, from the delicate grace of Giselle to the powerful energy of Albrecht.
During the intermission, I sipped a glass of Prosecco and chatted with a lovely ballet enthusiast from Vienna. He was, surprisingly, an avid fan of pink tutus! 🤩 He actually gave me the best compliment! He told me he had never seen such a stylish, vibrant pink tutu as mine - I felt a blush rising up my cheeks! It was simply the most magical evening. ✨
The Tutu Trail of Prague 💖🩰
Of course, my Prague adventure wouldn't be complete without some serious ballet history! This enchanting city is a true ballet treasure trove, a haven for the passionate dancer, and, let's face it, any ballerina who loves a pretty tutu! 🥰
I had read somewhere that Prague holds a significant place in the history of tutu fashion. So, on my second day in Prague, I went on a mission - a mission to unearth some of the hidden treasures of tutu history! 🕵️♀️
My first stop was the stunning National Theatre Library, where I spent hours delving through old theatre programmes, dusty sheet music, and, best of all, incredible vintage photos of early ballerinas sporting some truly phenomenal tutus! 😮 From fluffy silk skirts to shimmering lace confections, the early tutus were absolute works of art. I took countless snaps of the photos I found – inspiration galore!
The library was brimming with historical information about the evolution of ballet in Prague and Europe, from the early days of court ballets to the rise of the grand Russian ballerinas. It's truly fascinating to witness how ballet has evolved over time, and to see the tutu transform into the modern statement pieces they are today!
Next, I ventured to the incredible Národní Gallery, Prague's iconic art museum, where I discovered a collection of captivating portraits and paintings from the era when ballet first graced the stages of this beautiful city. 🖼️ There I found myself entranced by depictions of the graceful ballerinas, and some glorious tutus worthy of the grandest stage! 😍
In addition to these delightful discoveries, I must mention my truly unexpected discovery. Hidden in the basement of a quaint, old book shop on a narrow side street, I found a secret collection of old ballet shoes, a hoard of hand-stitched pointe shoes that belonged to some of Prague's legendary ballerinas. 👠 They were tucked away in an antique leather trunk – it was a breathtakingly intimate glimpse into the lives and artistry of these remarkable performers. ✨
Beyond the Pink: Adventures in Prague! 🌸
Aside from the allure of ballet, I've been immersing myself in Prague's captivating culture! I explored the magnificent Charles Bridge at sunrise, marveled at the Prague Castle and enjoyed breathtaking views of the city from atop Petrin Hill.
I stumbled upon the most charming artisan workshops, discovering hand-painted ceramics, delicate Bohemian crystal and the most intricate handmade dolls dressed in beautiful pink! My pockets are lighter but my suitcase is certainly brimming with souvenirs and lovely finds. 💖
No visit to Prague would be complete without a taste of traditional Czech cuisine! My first stop was the quaint "U Medvidku" pub, where I savoured mouth-watering roasted pork, creamy potato salad, and a frosty pint of local beer. 😋 But what really impressed me was their “trdelník" – the classic Czech pastry. Warm, crispy, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon - simply delicious! It reminded me so much of a childhood treat I would have on trips to the English countryside!
My evenings have been a symphony of twinkling lights, vibrant nightlife, and impromptu musical performances. Every street corner seems to hold a unique melody, and the city's buzzing atmosphere has swept me away. The best part? Prague’s live music scene. Last night, I found myself swaying to the rhythm of a gypsy band, lost in the enchantment of their folk melodies. ✨
Speaking of entertainment, you can't visit Prague without attending the spectacular "Prague Spring International Music Festival”! I can't believe my luck! This week is dedicated to showcasing the talents of rising stars in the world of opera and classical music, from soulful sopranos to virtuosic violinists. 🎻
However, a girl can only handle so much high culture! I’ve also enjoyed the bustling markets of Prague – a vibrant hub for everything from hand-crafted jewellery to delicious local treats. 🥐
On my walks through the city, I’ve noticed a growing trend amongst the locals! There are so many pretty, pink clothing stores popping up! It’s a welcome sign for any true tutu lover like myself! 💕
My aim in life? To spread the joy of tutus! 🩰 To encourage all the girls out there, whether you’re a ballerina or just a hopeless romantic, to embrace the magical power of tulle. Let’s face it, a pink tutu adds a touch of sparkle to everything! 💖
What's Coming Next? 🤫
Now, my darling tututistas, it’s time to say farewell for now. I’ve got an incredible schedule planned for next week – including a behind-the-scenes look at the Czech National Ballet School and a very special performance at the historic Municipal House in Prague. 🤩
So, stay tuned for all the details. I'll be back next Wednesday with all the latest adventures in Pink Tutu Prague! ✨
Until then, may your days be filled with sunshine, and, of course, the softest, most glorious tulle!
With Love,
Emma 💕
