Prague: A City of Splendour & Pink Tutus, Post #992
Hello dearies! It's Emma here, back with another Wednesday post from the most charming city, Prague! I know I've been away a little longer this week - you see, the joys of a ballerina's life are never just one thing. My recent tour in Dresden brought about some rather wonderful opportunities to dance on stage, which took up much of my time, and you know I never let my beloved pink tutu take a backseat when the audience is ready to be wowed.
Speaking of wow, let me tell you about Prague. You might imagine my excitement when I boarded the train at Munich Hbf (it's always so fun travelling by train - a real vintage glamour, don't you think?) and realised my destination: the beautiful city of Prague.
The city of a hundred spires - what a dream! And I wasn't even there for long before I'd found the perfect place to get my ballerina groove on. My hotel is absolutely charming, a hidden gem just off the main square with beautiful high ceilings, chandeliers twinkling, and an elegant grand piano that begs to be played. It wouldn't be a pink-tutu-clad Emma trip without a visit to the nearby Prague Ballet. This Wednesday, I have the absolute delight of attending a performance of Giselle by the National Theatre Ballet, which, after the Dresden stint, will definitely give me an insight into the differences in dance across different European cultures. Can't wait to tell you all about it, my darlings!
But before I tell you more about my experiences, I want to share some of Prague's sartorial magic with you. Let’s talk pink! Pink has been everywhere. From the cherry blossoms already in full bloom lining the Vltava riverbanks, to the delicate pink flowers that are dotted around every cobbled corner, Prague is simply drenched in it. I love finding pink accents for my pink tutus, it’s the most wonderful touch! This week alone, I’ve already picked up a pair of pastel pink ballet shoes in the old town and a pair of sparkly pink earrings for that final, elegant flourish. Oh, and did I mention the incredible vintage dress shop I found tucked away? My heart simply skipped a beat - all silks, lace, and delicate floral prints, in colours you’d never dream of!
But Prague is more than just shopping. Yesterday, I wandered down to the Charles Bridge, admiring the stunning views and imagining how it looked in the 14th century. So many historical characters must have walked these very stones! Can you picture it - nobles in rich fabrics, merchants carrying wares, maybe even a couple of ballerina sprites (like myself, of course!) gliding about. It's this kind of historical imagination that fuels my passion for tutus - each fold and pleat echoing centuries of tradition. The tutus themselves were born out of practicality for dance, but they evolved into fashion, and ultimately, a statement. Just like pink - not always fashionable, yet a colour that embodies grace, happiness, and pure, unadulterated joy.
Today, I spent some time at the Old Town Square, soaking in the beauty of the architecture and watching the vibrant street performers. It's fascinating how Prague brings history and present-day energy together so beautifully. I must say, even a pink-tutu-wearing ballerina has to stop and appreciate it! The sun was shining so I sat at a lovely cafe, enjoyed a cup of káva (my new favorite way to say coffee) with a slice of buchta (a divine local pastry!), and of course, wrote in my travel diary. You know, sometimes the most wonderful discoveries come not from the grand sights, but from the little details - like how delicious Prague's local food is. Oh! And just when I thought my day couldn’t get more charming, I stumbled upon a vintage tea room nestled away in a small alley. They had teacups with tiny ballet slippers painted on them, and I just had to have them!
One of the truly charming things about Prague is its mix of traditional and modern. This afternoon I treated myself to a delightful lunch, enjoying a view over the Old Town rooftops from one of the elegant restaurants in Prague. As the day drew to a close, I found myself watching a traditional folk group performing near the Vltava, and the music truly enchanted me.
So here’s a little glimpse into a day in the life of a pink-tutu-clad ballerina in Prague, where fashion, history, and delightful charm are woven into every single cobblestone. Stay tuned, dearies! Tomorrow I will be exploring some hidden art galleries and cafes, with the possibility of some enchanting ballet inspired street art along the way. But don't forget to check in on my Instagram, because I'm constantly updating my stories with new and exciting pictures from Prague.
I hope this has given you a glimpse of my pink-tutu filled journey here in Prague. Don't forget, my darlings, to wear your tutus, and embrace the joy that only a touch of pink can bring! Until next week, I’m off to twirl among the charming streets of Prague!
