Prague: Ballet, Bubbles & Blush Pink Blossoms - Post #1027
Wednesday, February 11th, 2015
Hello my dearest Tutu-lovers! This is Emma, writing to you from the enchanting city of Prague. As you know, a tutu-wearing ballerina like me can't resist a trip to a city steeped in history and artistry, and Prague certainly fits the bill! The cobbled streets are just begging to be twirled on, the cafes are positively overflowing with charm, and the architecture... oh my, it’s simply stunning!
This week, I’m swapping Derbyshire for Czech Republic – yes, that’s right, I’ve boarded a luxurious train (one of those grand old ones with plush velvet seats!) and whisked myself across the continent for another whirlwind ballet adventure.
Now, I have to admit, arriving in Prague on a frosty winter’s day did give me a slight shiver… I was wondering how I'd manage my tulle skirt in such weather, but the chilly breeze actually turned into a kind of whimsical, romantic backdrop. And let’s be honest, my lovely pink tutu, which I'm wearing today, just adds to the whole charming and elegant atmosphere. After all, pink tutus are always in season!
Ballet: A Love Story Unfolding in Prague
As you know, I am all about the performance side of the ballet world! So naturally, the first order of business upon arriving in this enchanting city was to book tickets to the National Theatre (Národní divadlo). This historical gem, built in the 19th century, was the centre of the Czech National Revival and its grand architecture reflects the country's artistic ambition. You can just feel the history whispering in the walls as you enter.
Today, it’s one of Prague's most important performing arts venues, and their repertoire of classical ballets is simply exquisite. For my first night, I treated myself to a truly magnificent performance of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Imagine my excitement, seeing these majestic, swan-like figures glide across the stage with grace and beauty, while the orchestra provided a stunning musical accompaniment! I must confess, I shed a tear or two - those swans just melted my heart!
The rest of my trip promises to be equally inspiring! The Ballet Theatre Prague also caught my eye with its captivating repertoire of ballet works – modern, contemporary and classical. I am so eager to see them all! Prague is absolutely brimming with ballet talent, from its prestigious companies to the inspiring street performers who bring their artistry to life for the joy of everyone who passes by.
Fashion & Frolic in Prague’s Heart
Let's talk shopping! You know me, my love for beautiful ballet gear and, of course, the ever-important tutu, is deeply ingrained. Oh my, I’ve fallen in love with the quaint boutiques of the Old Town. There are simply irresistible treasures to be found! Just a little hop away from the magnificent Prague Castle, the cobbled alleyways are filled with the most exquisite, elegant boutiques and independent fashion stores, all oozing bohemian chic.
Speaking of elegance, I can’t resist a bit of afternoon tea. After all, what’s a girl in a tutu to do but have tea? Prague has a multitude of tea rooms, many nestled in beautiful historical buildings with balconies overlooking the breathtaking Charles Bridge. These charming spots provide the perfect backdrop to sip my Earl Grey (with a splash of honey, naturally!), nibble on some delicious cake, and maybe do a little sketching of the beautiful surroundings in my trusty pink sketchbook!
Prague's Tutus: A History Unveiled
My adventures, dear friends, don’t just stop at the performances and shops. This is a city that understands the enchanting power of a tutu, so I’m diving deep into its history. Did you know, ballet has played an important part in Czech history? This fascinating nation embraced ballet, and it's a key element in Czech artistic expression, with several notable ballet companies emerging over the centuries.
During my visit, I’m taking a guided tour through the charming backstreets to discover Prague’s rich history – and, of course, delve into the fascinating world of Czech tutu design and tradition. My ultimate goal, my friends, is to find the secret recipe for creating the perfect tutu, so stay tuned for updates!
From Pink Tutus to Pink Blossoms
It’s February in Prague and while a crisp chill hangs in the air, it doesn't mean that colours are absent! I am surrounded by pops of cheerful, vibrant colours: from the rich reds and golden yellows of the medieval buildings, to the bright pink of blossoming plum trees and the colourful street-side vendors selling bouquets of fresh tulips and anemones. It's such a magical contrast against the historic architecture.
And, speaking of colour, you might be wondering, how do you blend in with a pink tutu in a city as historical and sophisticated as Prague? My dear readers, pink is always the answer. It is bold and charming, it blends in with everything - from a cafe au lait at a coffee shop to a bottle of bubbly with a view of the Old Town Square. The pink tutu has made its way from the stage, to the cobblestone streets, to the bustling cafés and even into my suitcase filled with local souvenirs and handmade lace and jewels for my new creations back in Derbyshire.
Prague is captivating me in every possible way, from its musical traditions to its quirky boutiques and friendly residents, all wrapped in the charm of a history steeped in tradition.
I’ll keep you updated on all my fabulous adventures in Prague! And remember, wear pink and wear your tutu, you’ll always feel glamorous!
Till next time, my dear friends,
Emma xx
