Prague in Pink: Post 1050 – Ballet, Bohemian Rhapsody & Bejeweled TutUs
Hello my darlings! It's Wednesday again, which means a fresh post for you, this time all the way from beautiful Prague!
The journey from Derbyshire, as always, was a delight. The train ride through the rolling countryside with its fairytale-like castles and vibrant green hills just whisked me away, leaving behind all my stresses and anxieties. A little sigh of happiness for those lovely calming views, darling. Of course, I couldn’t resist adding a touch of pink to the journey – my latest, absolutely gorgeous, blush-pink polka-dotted tutu went perfectly with my train-carriage windows. A bit of 'fancy me' in the otherwise standard travel attire.
And speaking of fancy, I've found myself in a world of whimsical beauty and artistic grace. Prague, it seems, is just the place for a pink tutu-loving ballerina.
This week, it was all about ballet, ballet, ballet! Prague’s got such a rich history of dance, so much so, I’ve got a full week's blog planned. The first night, darling, I was treated to a thrilling show at the National Theatre.
This is one of those opulent, breathtaking old theatres – think ornate chandeliers, deep velvet seats, a stage so large it practically swallows you up. The entire building whispered of a century’s worth of glittering performances.
This show – the ‘Carmen’ ballet, oh my darling, it was pure drama. You just had to be there. A swirling storm of passionate flamenco beats and beautiful dancers weaving a story of fiery love and betrayal. I found myself utterly swept away by the raw emotions the dancers conveyed - those soaring jumps, the elegant movements, the dramatic pauses - pure magic, darling!
And oh! Let’s not forget the tutus! Absolutely glorious! The women’s costumes were truly something else, from the deep scarlet hues to the flowing fabrics. I just wanted to leap on stage and be a part of it. Of course, the ballerina in me always imagines herself in the costumes – but oh darling, the thought of getting that close to the Carmen dress... I must find a little piece of Prague's design spirit and take it back to the Derbyshire tutu studio, darling.
After the show, we strolled through the cobbled streets, mesmerized by the flickering gas lamps, the historic buildings all lit up, and the gentle sound of Czech music pouring from the open doors of pubs and restaurants. It was magical, my darlings! I almost felt I’d stepped into a romantic fairytale, you know. Oh darling, the whole trip has felt so enchanted, I even went a little bit boho and picked up some beautiful handmade jewellery for my studio at a street market - oh so much sparkly goodness!
Thursday I decided to channel the 'Ballet Bohemian Rhapsody' theme. And who could resist a little ballet class in Prague’s enchanting old town? This was just what the ballet bunny ordered. It's not easy finding a pink tutu friendly dance class - they love their black tutus here - but I insisted on my blushing "Pink Ballerina of Prague" tutu for this special ballet adventure. Just imagine: me, standing there in the sunshine, all those cute cobblestone streets, all the lovely gothic buildings.
The teacher was fantastic, even better with my pronunciation than some of my London students – the class is on Monday at St John’s Wood, come join us, darling! She gave me the perfect stretch before leading us into some serious ballet technique. Even her teaching was inspiring – some beautifully traditional exercises that I haven’t used since my Derbyshire academy days. By the end of it, my feet were aching and I felt a new strength I haven’t found in ages.
And I'll be honest – a little shopping spree was just what my tutu-loving heart needed. I wandered through a shop just bursting with all the most fabulous bohemian chic designs – think delicate lace, hand-stitched beads, vintage finds. I even stumbled across a stunning bejeweled tutu! It sparkled like the moonlight reflecting off the Vltava River. Honestly, my darlings, you just have to get your hands on one. The craftsmanship was divine! You've got to imagine the beauty – it was a simple but stunning shape, classic ballerina style, all in shades of midnight blue and silver, just the right combination of glamour and whimsy. It was destined to become my Prague treasure, my darlings, and will surely star in next week's post.
And the Vltava itself! A ribbon of silvery-grey snaking through the city, with graceful bridges arching over it like elegant swans – it truly inspires. There’s nothing more relaxing than strolling along the river bank, the sound of the water, the little cafes buzzing with locals. The moment itself felt almost too magical, and I couldn’t help but dream a little of being a beautiful swan, soaring gracefully over the water, a glittering pink tutu rippling with each effortless flap of my winged legs. Perhaps that will be next week's blog entry? I just might take a punt.
That's Prague in a nutshell – a beautiful combination of the old and new, history and modern culture, breathtaking architecture and delicious pastries, vibrant arts and creative energy.
Of course, darling, my heart and soul belong with those beautiful Prague tutus! I can already imagine the excitement building, my journey towards getting everyone wearing pink, wherever we roam! That's the pink-tutu mission, darlings, and there is nothing like a vibrant city and beautiful dance to propel us forward! Don't forget, join me for my weekly ballet class, St John’s Wood on Mondays. Follow my adventures each Wednesday on pink-tutu.com - the weekly updates are waiting just for you.
Now, go out and spread the love for tutus, darling! And don't forget - pink always adds a little extra oomph. Until next Wednesday!
Love,
Emma xx
