Pink Tutu Prague: Ballet in the City of a Hundred Spires! (Blog Post #1064)
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, writing to you live from the magical city of Prague! It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means… another installment of my Pink Tutu Travels blog! This week, I’m taking you on a journey through the captivating world of ballet in Prague, and believe me, it’s been an absolute dream!
A Dashing Departure from DerbyshireMy journey began with a whimsical trip to the train station in my favourite shade of pink (because, honestly, what’s more glamorous than arriving at the station looking like a fluffy, pink marshmallow?). I adore the romance and freedom of travelling by train. I imagine myself as a character in a vintage ballet, travelling to an exciting unknown in a whirlwind of romance and tutus.
Speaking of tutus, this trip would not be complete without a couple of brand new creations! The shops in Prague are positively overflowing with the most exquisite fabrics, lace, and sequins, and my shopping bag is already overflowing with the makings of a dazzling new collection. (Let’s face it, you can never have too many pink tutus).
Prague: A Fairytale come to lifeUpon arrival, I was immediately struck by the beauty of Prague! The cobblestone streets, charming architecture, and enchanting river running through its heart – it’s like a fairytale stepped out of a book! And don’t even get me started on the sheer number of stunning buildings; every corner held a surprise! I mean, how many cities can boast hundreds of spires gracing the skyline?
Ballet in Prague: A Whirlwind of GraceNow, onto the reason for my visit: ballet in Prague! Today is the 28th of October, and it's a Wednesday - the perfect day to indulge in a bit of ballet magic. As always, I found myself utterly charmed by the passion and dedication of the Czech ballet dancers. Their grace and precision were captivating, and the performances were truly a spectacle. The energy was infectious!
This evening, I was treated to a delightful programme by the National Theatre, featuring an enchanting interpretation of Swan Lake that I absolutely fell in love with! I can’t rave enough about the principal dancers, the incredible artistry, and the powerful emotion they poured into every movement.
Exploring Prague: Ballet history, Tutu history and moreWhile ballet filled my days, I made sure to find time to explore the historical treasures Prague offers. Wandering the narrow, winding streets felt like a time travel adventure, discovering quaint cafés serving exquisite pastries and tiny, hidden boutiques showcasing Czech artistry. I found myself particularly enamoured with the Charles Bridge. It’s as though every stone whispers a thousand stories of a captivating past.
And speaking of stories, I found myself completely enthralled with the history of Prague ballet. It turns out that this charming city boasts a vibrant ballet heritage dating back to the 17th century. From the royal courts of Habsburg monarchs to the grandeur of the National Theatre, Prague’s ballet scene has always been rich with tradition and innovation.
Of course, what’s a Pink Tutu travelogue without some tutu history, right? Prague's tutus, my lovelies, have an interesting tale! During the 18th and 19th centuries, when tutus first became fashionable, they were a symbol of the burgeoning ballet world in the city. Prague became a hub for the exchange of ballet ideas, and tutus were central to this exchange. In fact, several famous tutus designed for some of the most prominent dancers of the day found their home in Prague's collections.
My Favourite Prague moments: Fashion, shopping, and more ballet! My days in Prague have been a delightful blend of ballet, shopping, and charming adventures. Here’s a glimpse of what I've been up to:
Tutu Shopping Spree: My darling readers know how much I adore shopping for tutus. And Prague's vintage boutiques and designer studios simply blew my mind! I found myself utterly charmed by the unique lace, exquisite ribbons, and decadent feathers I stumbled upon. I swear I left my bank card at the shop! I simply couldn't resist these beautiful materials, they are just screaming for me to turn them into something dazzling! (You know what that means: a brand new post on Pink-Tutu.com dedicated to my Prague Tutu collection coming very soon!).
A Bite of Prague: As an aficionado of all things delightful, I couldn’t leave Prague without indulging in the city's delicious delicacies. From traditional Czech cuisine to delicate pastries, I simply adore all that this magical city offers. Let’s just say I'm fully embracing the 'eat, dance, and be merry' mantra here in Prague.
The Ballet Spirit of Prague: What's a ballerina to do after a magical ballet performance? Why, head straight for a glass of Prosecco in a charming café, of course! With a tutu and champagne, I feel utterly regal in Prague.
A Night to Remember at the Ballet: One evening, I took a stroll around the beautiful Old Town Square and was captivated by a free street ballet performance. Watching these talented dancers move in the heart of Prague, beneath the twinkling lights, felt magical! Seeing the passion of street dance in the beautiful setting of Old Town Square truly added to the magic of this extraordinary city.
Well, darlings, my time in Prague is coming to an end, and I’m already filled with a touch of sadness. But as I board the train back to England, I’m taking with me memories I'll cherish forever: the majestic spires, the graceful ballet performances, the cobblestone streets, and of course, the irresistible charm of Prague.
This is what I love about traveling as a ballet-loving, tutu-wearing enthusiast - discovering a new city's dance scene and history, getting lost in a flurry of colours, meeting new friends, and sharing a love of everything magical.
Until next Wednesday, keep dancing your hearts out, my darlings, and always remember to embrace the tutu-filled joy that life has to offer! Don’t forget to visit Pink-Tutu.com to see the latest Prague collection!
Yours in pink tutus,
