Prague, My Love! Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of a Hundred Spires (Blog Post #1065)

Wednesday, 4th November, 2015

Oh, Prague! This magical city just keeps tugging at my heartstrings. You can practically hear the history in these cobblestone streets. And as I'm twirling through the charming squares, my pink tutu practically whispers secrets of forgotten empires. Today's a real treat – it's a ballet day, darlings! So, strap in for another exciting adventure from yours truly, your pink-tutu-clad travel companion, Emma.

But first, let's chat about the journey! Now, you know how much I adore train travel. There's something about the rhythmic clattering of the tracks and the passing scenery that brings me a certain peaceful joy. Plus, you get to admire all those delightful fashion choices of fellow travellers - how they wear their chic hats, how their elegant gloves are folded just so... It's a lesson in style on wheels! I got lucky and snagged a window seat. Perfect for admiring the breathtaking rolling hills dotted with tiny villages and charming towns.

Speaking of fashion, darling! Shopping is absolutely crucial to a true travel experience. Prague has such enchanting vintage shops nestled amongst charming cobbled alleys - it's a vintage-lovers paradise! Imagine vintage furs, beaded flapper dresses and vintage sequined shrugs, all nestled amongst antique treasures and fascinating books. The entire experience feels like a delightful page out of a classic movie. Today, I found myself captivated by a shimmering silver-grey satin shrug – think Parisian elegance, darling! And naturally, a feather boa – perfect for adding a touch of drama to my evening. I'm so proud of my purchases – and it only set me back a small fortune, as you do.

But now, back to the main event! Ballet!

I can’t believe I’m actually in Prague – a city overflowing with ballet history! I’ve been yearning to see this beautiful city since forever, and I finally made it! The magical allure of the Prague Ballet is simply irresistible, especially in this historical theatre with the most beautiful, intricate décor and such rich theatrical traditions! I couldn’t wait to discover their stunning performances and absorb the palpable magic that pervades every corner.

Tonight's performance is 'Giselle', the eternal tale of love, heartbreak and ghostly vengeance! It's truly breathtaking - those stunning costumes, the passionate, captivating choreography and the graceful movements - just a magical spectacle!

Oh, and the dancers! Every step is a work of art. Each delicate movement tells a story of raw emotion, of swirling passion, of ethereal beauty. I could practically feel their dedication and commitment to their craft with every flutter of their eyelashes, every graceful sway of their bodies. Just phenomenal. And all those beautiful tulle tutus - I was truly in my element. They weren’t as fluffy and big as mine (but obviously! This is a serious performance we’re talking about!), but the tulle flowed just beautifully, and, oh darling, the little sparkly accents? Just delightful. I absolutely adore the graceful sway and the airy feel of tulle – you can just imagine a ballerina floating on clouds with each and every leap. I just can’t get enough of those ethereal, elegant twirls and beautiful movements - the very essence of a true ballerina!

After the show, the charming cafes of Prague’s Old Town beckoned me with their warm glow, the tantalising aroma of coffee and cake wafting out of open doors. I settled into a quaint cafe with an amazing antique decor, tucked away on a narrow alley. My eyes were dancing with the magical ambiance while I enjoyed a delectable cake, reflecting on the performance. I love a beautiful setting to relax, sip a delicious latte, and indulge in a little cake with my feet propped up! This cafe was a truly beautiful sight for sore eyes – think gorgeous gilded mirrors, soft velvet chairs, ornate, almost-too-good-to-be-true patterned wallpaper, with charming lamps offering soft lighting – everything a vintage-lover could dream of!

But let’s talk about the ballet’s history for a moment – it’s simply divine. Imagine, a 19th-century French composer, a 19th-century Parisian ballet dancer… a dance drama born from a story inspired by German folklore! Who could resist? Just the perfect combination to get me dancing with excitement. The beautiful romanticism and haunting storyline combine perfectly with the choreography, and the powerful emotive movements that translate effortlessly onto the stage.

And that dress! Oh darling, you must picture it. Think billowing white, the kind of perfect, airy, ethereal fabric you would expect for a woodland nymph, a forest sprite, but also elegant, regal - and utterly heartbreaking. So captivating. But let's talk a bit about tutu history for a second – those billowing, puffy romantic tutus came about in the romantic era! Can you imagine how revolutionary those huge tutus must have been in the 19th century? Imagine seeing those romantic tutus in all their voluminous glory for the first time! The sheer, stunning beauty! And what makes tutus so very special? The history. The incredible history! This romanticism, the lightness, the freedom – how elegant, how romantic, and how breathtakingly beautiful it all is!

And now I’m feeling the real lure of this beautiful city pull me in! I’ve fallen for the cobbled lanes, the stunning architecture, the vintage delights, and the truly inspiring cultural richness! And I’m sure my new friend, the silver-grey shrug, is already falling in love with Prague too!

Until next time,

Emma

P.S. My favourite vintage find this week was an original Parisian 'New Look' Christian Dior dress with an astonishing floral print! So stunning, darlings. Absolutely stunning! This trip just keeps getting better!
