#PinkTutuPrague Ballet in Prague 2015-12-02

Well, hello there, my lovelies! It's Emma here, straight from the enchanting streets of Prague, and let me tell you, this city is giving me all the feels! 💖 This week, as you know, is all about our favourite dance form - ballet, of course! So, where better to be than in the very heart of Europe, a city steeped in history, art, and a captivating dance culture? I just know you're all dying to know what fabulous things I've been up to, so without further ado...

Arriving in Prague was like stepping into a fairytale. Imagine, darling, cobbled streets, charming old buildings, the gentle sway of a gondolier's oar on the Vltava river (okay, maybe not that gentle - it's cold out here!), and everywhere you look, stunning architecture that's positively bursting with history. It's no wonder this city has been inspiring artists for centuries, and it's a true pleasure to see the magic for myself!

Now, I'm sure you're wondering how I made my way here. Why, by train, of course! Nothing beats the romance of travelling across Europe in a comfortable, scenic carriage, gazing out the window at the passing landscapes. And let's be honest, darling, who wouldn't prefer the rhythmic sway of the train over a cramped aeroplane cabin?

But the journey wouldn't be complete without a touch of Emma magic. Yep, you guessed it! My darling pink tutu (I named her "Twinkle") made the journey with me. Let me tell you, travelling through the heart of Europe in my most glorious pink creation really caused quite a stir! Imagine the smiles, the gasps, the compliments – all while I'm channeling a bit of ballerina chic, of course! 💖

Speaking of pink, Prague is positively teeming with delightful pastel tones! From the stunning pastel-coloured houses lining the canal to the vibrant pink macarons I've been devouring (yes, darling, the calories will come off in the ballet studio back in Derbyshire!), this city is just overflowing with whimsy and elegance. I almost feel like I've stepped into a real-life pastel painting, but don't you worry, I haven't gone entirely 'Instagram aesthetic' on you - I'm still all about that chic Parisian glamour, mixed with a touch of Prague's old-world charm!

But enough about the city for now, because we're here to talk about ballet, my darlings! Let me tell you, Prague has an absolute gem of a ballet scene. It's vibrant, it's sophisticated, and it's got a certain captivating charm that's uniquely Praguish!

The Prague National Theatre, darling, is a real stunner - think towering neo-Renaissance architecture, a breathtaking interior adorned with exquisite chandeliers, and a stage that’s seen the likes of some of ballet's greatest legends. They're currently staging a magnificent rendition of "The Nutcracker", and you wouldn't believe the sheer artistry and brilliance I witnessed! Those graceful pirouettes, the expressive movements, and the breathtaking costumes – it was pure magic! It reminded me so much of our beloved Christmas performances at the Derbyshire Theatre - the audience roaring with delight, the twinkling lights, the sweet smell of Christmas, all those delightful traditions coming alive onstage! It truly is the best time of year for a performance, and Prague just knows how to put on a show!

But Prague is not just about the grand theatres, you see. There's something special about catching a performance in an intimate, atmospheric setting. Just imagine a beautiful little theatre nestled away in a cobbled alleyway, the air thick with the aroma of hot chocolate, and a talented ensemble of dancers bringing a captivating ballet to life. This is the charm I experienced at the Old Town Theatre, darling! The performers there really were exceptional – every twirl, every leap was executed with precision and grace, and they poured their souls into each movement, which truly captivated the audience.

I couldn't leave Prague without a little peek behind the scenes, could I? My dear friend, an accomplished ballet teacher in the heart of Prague, took me to visit the studio at the Prague Ballet Conservatory, which has been churning out brilliant dancers for decades. They were rehearsing the most beautiful rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake”, the romantic music flowing throughout the room as they worked their magic, and the air itself felt charged with the power of pure artistry!

You see, darling, Prague's love for ballet is deeply rooted in history. There's just something magical about how this city celebrates dance, both on grand stages and intimate, intimate corners. Every street, every theatre, every dance school has its own ballet story to tell, and you can truly feel the rich legacy of the dance form woven into the fabric of the city.

Let’s face it, darlings, no trip is complete without a little retail therapy. Prague has a wonderful mix of modern, contemporary fashion boutiques, all those adorable, independent shops I adore, as well as plenty of those exquisite vintage stores brimming with hidden treasures. And where would I be without my trusty pink tutu in tow? Why, she's been quite the celebrity, you see, captivating every shop assistant and fellow shopper I've encountered! I always say, a touch of pink tulle makes everything a little more magical!

Now, darling, you can't come to Prague and not soak up the city's stunning beauty. Imagine, my lovelies, a walk across the Charles Bridge with its row upon row of charming little statues, a stop to admire the mesmerizing architecture of Prague Castle perched high above the city, a stroll down the cobbled streets adorned with colourful houses, the breathtaking reflections of the historic buildings in the Vltava River… and to top it all off, a charming cafe nestled in the heart of the Old Town serving the most delectable, sugar-dusted pastries you've ever seen! Yes, darlings, it's a perfect picture, if I do say so myself! I'm absolutely soaking up all the vibrant, magical moments Prague has to offer!

But my adventures here, darlings, are far from over! I have so much more to explore and share with you – from the vibrant night life, the captivating art scene, to discovering the hidden secrets of this enchanting city.
