Prague Post #1126: Tutu Tales and Bohemian Dreams 🩰💖🇨🇿

Hey there, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink-tutu-clad adventurer, back from Prague with a heart full of wonder and a head full of tulle. This week's blog post is a bit of a whirlwind, so grab a cuppa and settle in for a tutu-filled tale from the heart of Europe!

This week, Prague was calling, whispering sweet nothings of cobblestone streets, Gothic cathedrals, and charming cafés. Honestly, I couldn't resist the allure, especially with the PinkTutuPrague ballet happening on Wednesday. I always adore a bit of ballet on the road, don't you? It's the perfect way to experience the soul of a new city.

A Railway Romance:

As a proper Derbyshire girl at heart, I absolutely adore the romanticism of train travel. Picture this: me, a big pink polka dot suitcase (it's my travelling companion, truly a legend in its own right!), and a window seat gazing at rolling countryside. The journey was magical - watching the landscape change, the air grow crisp, and the anticipation build with every click of the wheels. Arriving at Prague’s main station was like stepping into a fairytale; grand architecture, the aroma of coffee brewing in a nearby café, and the murmur of voices in a language I barely understood - pure magic.

Pink Power in the City:

Now, let’s talk about Prague! I think the city itself might be jealous of my wardrobe. Seriously, Prague is a feast for the eyes – from the intricate detail of the Charles Bridge to the stunning baroque architecture of Prague Castle, it's a place that truly inspires me to embrace colour. Pink, of course, plays a big part in this – from the blush of a sunset over the Vltava River to the delicate floral patterns adorning local boutiques, Prague's spirit just felt incredibly "Emma." And did I mention I spotted the cutest pink-tutu-clad ballerina dolls in a shop window near Old Town Square?! Naturally, I bought them all, they are now proudly displaying on my dressing table, joining my ever-growing collection.

Ballet Dreams in a City of Magic:

Oh, my darlings, the ballet! PinkTutuPrague was simply exquisite. The stage, adorned with glittering crystal chandeliers and set against a backdrop of Prague’s breathtaking cityscape, created an atmosphere both romantic and enchanting. I felt completely swept away by the storytelling – the elegance, the power, the sheer joy of it all.

I could gush about each performance all night, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. Instead, I’ll share some of the highlights:

  • The first act – “The Story of the Prague Castle,” showcased graceful dancers swirling across the stage like the clouds in a springtime sky, while the music resonated like the distant whispers of Czech legends. The costumes were dreamy - a symphony of pink and gold, evoking a vintage ballet feeling.
  • Act two – a dynamic, playful interpretation of the famous Bohemian Rhapsody, incorporating elements of folklore with breathtaking technical skill. You’ll love it – I certainly did!

Honestly, it’s always such a pleasure seeing new interpretations of classics like the "Swan Lake." Each company has a unique flavour, and Prague truly delivers. The final scene was breathtaking; a sea of graceful swans emerging from a dreamy lake of shimmering light. I could hear sniffles in the audience; it was just beautiful.

Beyond the Ballet:

Prague is truly a city that captures the soul. While I am utterly captivated by its ballet scene, this city has much more to offer! From strolling along the enchanting riverside to delving into the history of the old city centre, the atmosphere is absolutely captivating. Every cobbled street feels like an invitation to explore, to linger a little longer in a charming cafe, and to soak up the atmosphere.

Speaking of cafes… I’ve been sampling the local treats (cinnamon rolls are definitely a must-try!) and trying to master a few phrases in Czech, but I’m not sure it's working… still, every effort counts, right?

Fashionably Prague:

Prague is also a true haven for fashion lovers. Every corner brims with quaint boutiques, each one overflowing with treasures, from handmade jewellery and artisan ceramics to exquisite vintage finds. Naturally, I took the opportunity to do some serious browsing, and of course, to share some tips with you, my darlings.

For all my fellow fashionistas:

  • Must-visit store: "A la Rose," just off Charles Bridge, carries a beautifully curated selection of classic dresses. It was there that I spotted my newest pink tutu treasure – a delicately pleated piece adorned with pale pink satin ribbon, oh-so-charming.
  • Street Style inspiration: Look out for the trendsetters! Prague has its own unique style – think effortless Bohemian chic with a hint of vintage flair. It’s a place to embrace individuality and feel comfortable in your own skin, with just a dash of Parisian nonchalance thrown in for good measure. I absolutely adored seeing young creatives sporting statement jewelry and daringly colourful patterns - real inspiration for a future tutu design perhaps?!

Coming Up:

I'll be leaving Prague tomorrow, but you better believe this isn’t the last you'll see of me exploring Europe's beauty. Next stop, Vienna! Expect another post, with exciting tutu adventures and a look at Austria’s breathtaking waltzing traditions – we have a lot to cover.
