Prague: Where Tutus Meet Tiled Roofs! - Pink Tutu Blog, Post #1134
Wednesday 1st March, 2017
Bonjour, my darling tutus! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another dazzlingly pink blog post from yours truly, Emma! And wouldn't you know it, I'm writing this from Prague!
That's right, darling, I've finally made it to the City of a Hundred Spires - or should I say, the city where I hope to find a hundred pink tutus?!
I've always wanted to visit Prague. It's been on my "tutu travel list" for ages. Just imagine, cobbled streets, charming bridges, a vibrant cafe culture, and history at every corner - it's practically begging to be twirled in! Plus, Prague is famous for its stunning architecture, and I am positively obsessed with all things historical. Honestly, sometimes I think I spend more time daydreaming about ballet's past than practising for my next performance!
But I'll be honest with you, lovelies, getting here wasn't quite as romantic as I envisioned. My journey was punctuated with some unfortunate travel mishaps – let's just say I'm still traumatized by the memory of that rogue pheasant on the train to Dover! But then again, adventures wouldn't be half as fun without a bit of chaos, wouldn't you agree?
Now, before we get swept away in tales of tutu-tastic adventures, let me tell you a little about what brought me here in the first place. My last performance, a fundraising event for the "Keep Ballet Sparkling" campaign, was a smashing success! Honestly, the response from the audience was so enthusiastic that I actually ended up doing an impromptu "pas de deux" with the mayor's niece (much to his disapproval, I'm sure).
I'm lucky, darlings. Being a dancer and a ballet enthusiast has brought me to some incredible places, but none more charming than this enchanting Czech city. Speaking of charm, I had to break my journey into two days of sheer bliss as I absolutely could not resist a little detour to the magnificent Vienna State Opera. I mean, how could I NOT spend a few days dancing through Vienna? I did, however, regret my impulsivity a bit as I couldn't find a decent tutus shop! I guess Vienna is still learning about the virtues of this most magnificent garment! tut tut
But anyway, back to Prague! I finally reached this fairytale-like city yesterday, and I haven't been able to stop squealing with delight ever since!
Day One in Prague:
My first day here was a delightful whirlwind of pink, romance and breathtaking views. I was met by a wonderful Czech ballet company. They were incredibly warm and welcoming, immediately drawing me into a lively conversation about ballet shoes, and (thankfully!) they even appreciated the delicate, feminine artistry of a beautiful pink tutu! What a joy!
The hotel was absolutely divine! They had a cute little rooftop terrace, perfect for sipping prosecco while soaking in the city’s picturesque skyline. Of course, I had to pack my most darling pink tutu for this adventure. And yes, I did indulge in a few twirls on the terrace. Who could resist? It’s practically impossible not to twirl when surrounded by such loveliness!
I spent the evening exploring the charming cobblestone streets, stopping at cozy cafes to indulge in some mouthwatering strudel. Now, I don't know about you lovelies, but I have a terrible sweet tooth! The temptation to sample all the sweet treats was overwhelming - but hey, a little indulgence never hurt anyone, did it? I did try to be a little health conscious. After all, a tutu isn't quite so appealing on someone who hasn't been maintaining a decent fitness regimen!
One thing that really struck me was the vibrant artistic spirit of the city. Street musicians poured their hearts out with soulful melodies, talented artists created their own magical worlds on canvas, and I even witnessed a spontaneous ballet flash mob (I did make my way onto the impromptu stage with them. I simply couldn't resist! It is what it is. I am a ballet enthusiast after all! It’s almost as if the whole city is ready to waltz and pirouette!
Day Two: The Ballet and the Bargains:
I woke up this morning feeling oh-so-ready for a day full of ballet-tastic excitement. I started my morning with an invigorating dance session with the Czech ballet company. It was delightful! Honestly, darling, you'd think those graceful creatures had never seen a ballerina with a penchant for pink tutus. ha, ha
The National Theatre is a real architectural stunner! Built in the 19th century, it's as graceful as a ballerina in arabesque. And just wait until you see the interior – I’m telling you, it's positively magnificent. I felt like I had been whisked away to a fairy tale world! And let me tell you, the performance that night was nothing short of sensational!
We started with Tchaikovsky's iconic "Swan Lake". As a fellow ballerina, I can tell you, it takes real skill to make it look effortless. This was a true masterclass in technique! But then the piece de resistance, the finale: “Giselle”! It was pure enchantment!
And don't even get me started on the costumes! My darlings, you won't believe the amount of tulle and embroidery those gorgeous ballerinas were swishing around in! It was as though they were stepping out of my own favourite fairy tales. I even met the lovely prima ballerina afterwards - a real sweetheart! Honestly, I can’t help but feel a little jealous. I simply had to borrow (just for a few hours) the most divine pink tutu - and you know what? I actually got it back without being thrown out.
You know I adore browsing through little boutiques for fashion inspiration! And let me tell you, Prague has more charming shops than you could shake a tutu at! There were vintage boutiques tucked away on cobblestone streets, quaint market stalls brimming with quirky treasures, and luxury stores for the more sophisticated shoppers. And all I wanted to do was twirl and shimmy in all of them! What a great place for tutus, but not a pink tutu to be seen! Where was my pink tutu crew? I swear, I felt so incredibly isolated! Oh dear. I just hope that I don’t look ridiculous with my passion for pink tutus - I mean it would be horrendous if people were thinking “Emma’s lost the plot! *tut tut”.
I have been on a pink-tuted adventure and I really wanted to be surrounded by my sisters - those who have adopted pink tutus to show the world how wonderful the tutus of pink actually are. But of course I can only share this journey through my little pink blog, which for now, has a loyal fan base in Derbyshire, England, a fan base who seems to enjoy my pink-tuted adventures in some very charming corners of the world!
And guess what, darling? Tomorrow I'm taking a scenic horse-drawn carriage ride through the heart of Prague. Honestly, you couldn’t plan a better scene for an idyllic tutu moment! Imagine a beautiful cobblestone square bathed in the warm glow of a golden afternoon sun, with a gorgeous carriage carrying a stylish ballerina, twirling, swishing, dancing – with just a pinch of pink tutu thrown in for good measure! I feel that, my darlings! Oh yes, I have a feeling this will be another gorgeous pink-tuted adventure!
Until next week, darling! Don’t forget to check in on Pink-Tutu.com every Wednesday for more pink tutu travel adventures!
Love,
Emma
