Prague: Where the Magic Happens (Blog Post #1137)
Hello darlings! Emma here, writing to you live from the most charming city in the world (well, that's up for debate, but in my pink-tutu-clad opinion, Prague wins every time!). It’s Wednesday, so you know what that means... time for a fresh post from your favourite tutu-loving traveller!
This week, I've swapped my Derbyshire cobbled streets for Prague's magical cobbled lanes. Let's just say my suitcase was a veritable rainbow of pink hues – it's practically impossible for me to leave home without at least five tutus (one for every day of the week!), each one more fabulous than the last. You never know when a photo opportunity might arise, and let’s be honest, a tutu is a perfect complement to any sightseeing adventure!
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Emma, you're in Prague! Surely you’ve been indulging in some serious tutu shopping?”. And my darling, you are right! Prague's cobbled streets are positively teeming with adorable boutiques bursting at the seams with frilly wonders. It was a truly momentous occasion – me, surrounded by shelves overflowing with tulle and lace, all shimmering and ready to be transformed into an even more spectacular version of me. And who could resist a little peek inside those alluring hat shops with their fascinators and feathered creations? Let's just say my collection of pink hats has grown exponentially this trip.
Oh, but that’s not all, my dearest! This week was all about embracing Prague's soul through a lens of the performing arts – and that means ballet, ballet, and more ballet!
You know how I am with my tutu collection, but there is something truly magical about stepping onto the stage, especially in a place with such a rich theatrical history. I recently discovered the stunning PinkTutuPrague troupe, a collective of young and vibrant dancers, and, of course, I simply had to catch their performance at the majestic National Theatre. The very air was electric with anticipation, and the dancers radiated pure talent and grace, their tutus fluttering with every twirl and leap. It was simply breathtaking. The costumes, a riot of shimmering silks and satin, brought a touch of old Hollywood glamour to the stage. And their choreography, a seamless blend of classical tradition and contemporary flare, left me in awe. It's safe to say, their performance left a pink impression on me!
But enough about my personal experiences. I'm not one to brag, darling. So, tell me! What do you do when you’re exploring a new city? Are you the type to pack a schedule packed with tours and museums, or are you more the wanderlust spirit who likes to discover things as you go along? I am definitely somewhere in between. It’s all about balance, isn’t it? I love planned days filled with exploring stunning palaces, gardens, and cathedrals - but there is something so wonderfully unexpected about stumbling upon a hidden street or a charming cafe filled with locals, chatting over steaming mugs of coffee.
One of my favourite discoveries this trip was a little bookshop tucked away down a cobbled lane. It’s filled with fascinating treasures - vintage maps, leather-bound journals, and ancient manuscripts. I'd say it's more of a sanctuary for bibliophiles like me. The owner, a silver-haired lady named Anna, introduced me to her exquisite collection of books about ballet history. You’ve no idea how excited I got - I snagged a first edition copy of The Complete Book of Tutus, and another one all about the history of the ballet tutu in the 19th century! You see, I'm absolutely fascinated by the history of tutus - from their humble beginnings as simple knee-length skirts to the majestic creations we see on stage today. A tutu tells a story, you know, just as much as the ballet itself.
Speaking of stories, do you remember how much I love travelling by train? Well, Prague didn’t disappoint! Imagine chugging across rolling green fields, with the sun filtering through the train windows, and the soft whispers of conversations mixing with the rhythm of the rails. I always find that time spent on the train is time to reflect. To read, to write, and to simply savour the present moment.
And the ponies, darling? You simply must ride them! Imagine gliding through the cobblestone streets of Prague, feeling the gentle rocking motion beneath you, with the sights and sounds of the city unfolding around you. I always find that a leisurely pony ride is a great way to soak in the city's vibrant energy.
But I'm running out of space for today, dear reader! I still have so much more to tell you about my adventures in Prague – think delicious cinnamon pastries, enchanting medieval architecture, and breathtaking sunsets over the Vltava River!
And for those who missed my last post, remember I’m posting a new entry each Wednesday from Prague at www.pink-tutu.com. You can catch up on all my adventures and be the first to hear about my latest discoveries! I promise it’s worth the pink-tutu-tastic experience.
Until next time, my darlings! Keep those twirls going, and may your dreams be filled with pink tutus and dancing on clouds.
Love,
Emma
