Prague, darling! #1163

Oh my goodness, Prague! Itā€™s absolutely magical! The cobbled streets, the medieval buildings, the smell of pastries in the airā€¦ I am absolutely smitten. And of course, it's the perfect backdrop for a ballet lover like myself.

This week, darling, I'm taking you with me to a PINK TUTU ADVENTURE that I know you'll simply adore.

How I got here, a Ballet-Inspired Journey

I arrived here after a rather enchanting train journey. It was a long haul from my little village in Derbyshire (a 14 hour, 51 minute direct service if you want to be precise!) but the views were so pretty and the carriage was so quiet! Oh, the journey was punctuated with dreamy naps, reading through my collection of old ballerina magazines and lots of pink hot chocolate - I was almost able to resist getting up for every loo break, darling. Just about! The perfect time for some quiet reflection, I must say.

Did I tell you, darling, I travelled with a sweet little pony called ā€œPipā€ - I picked him up in Berlin on my way here. We had a real giggle in the stable together before heading to the station. He was rather interested in my bag, darling, the one with the ballet shoes and all my pink hair clips, I mean - what else would a fashionista such as myself be carrying? Oh Pipā€¦ he's so gorgeous! I do adore the majestic grace of these little creatures, even more than I adore a beautiful Swan Lake sequence. Oh my, did I mention I have been having dance lessons here, right next to Charles Bridge? Well I haveā€¦ but I have only had one class. I will definitely be back for more. Perhaps I can get Pip to come and watch next time. You will have to keep a watch on my blog, darling, for any adventures with Pip, I have an amazing feeling coming!

Now darling, enough about my adventures, this is about YOU! So grab a cup of your favourite pink-tinged drink (hot chocolate, naturally!), put on your comfiest clothes and let me take you on my little ballet journey.

Ballet, My Eternal Muse

Ballet, as you all know, is the cornerstone of my being. This weekā€™s journey all revolved around the incredible performance that has me utterly captivated - *"Pink Tutu Prague," *a magical ballet show at the Estates Theatre on 20th September 2017! Oh my goodness, the venue, it's utterly exquisite! This beautiful, historic theatre was brimming with atmosphere, like stepping back in time! It made my heart flutter a little bit, darling.

As for the ballet, I was transported. Itā€™s like a ballet show created for Pink Tutu and me - the entire cast wore pink tutus in various shades of pink, from the softest blush to a vibrant bubblegum! I mean, the visual feast, the stunning costumes - It's a veritable fashion parade, a veritable feast for the eyes! But it was the emotion that resonated with me most. Each dance was so evocative, each dancer telling their story with their bodies, telling a story about our hearts, darling. It really moved me to my very core!

But first, some fun tutu history...

Speaking of tutus, you just must hear this! Before I went to see "Pink Tutu Prague," I was reading all about the history of the tutu. I have to admit I am a bit of a history buff - well it helps when your main life inspiration is history. Did you know that the tutu has a very colourful history, and was really a symbol of "a rebel" of fashion and social mores? Imagine a fashion statement that causes an outrage!

Here is the quickie rundown, darlings:

  • The tutu became a symbol of ā€œmodernity,ā€ "liberation" and rebelliousnessā€ - well that fits with my vision of the world! Imagine how wild it was for a woman of 1830 to waltz across the stage, swirling those layers of fabric around their limbsā€¦ so scandalous! Oh, my, imagine that on the catwalk in 1830, a bold fashion statement - in a world dominated by long, restricting, and heavy layers of cloth. Not a tutu-loving world, at all! A rebellious fashionistaā€™s dream!

    • The tutu evolved! Well, the "real" tutu evolved! The tulle skirt started out as a much fuller, "full length skirt" which slowly changed to the modern style you see today - which is much, much shorter! How much has it evolved since it was considered the first symbol of rebellion in fashionā€¦ now its considered the staple for ballets of all kinds.

The evolution of this beautiful fashion icon was really a metaphor for the ā€œnew womanā€ as they called her in the 19th century! What a fab dress item to stand for womenā€™s changing and evolving world. I say more tutu history in future blog posts.

More Fashion and More Ballet!

Now back to the lovely Prague city, where I must tell you, I am completely enamoured by all the gorgeous clothes shops, too! From dainty antique lace boutiques, all the way to modern, edgy, independent designers. Itā€™s a real joy to walk around. But darling, do I have to tell you, I simply canā€™t resist buying another fabulous tutu. What can I say, darling, itā€™s a must for any fashion-loving ballerina! This time it's a soft, pink tulle one, just a whisper of colour - with the most delicate pearls. It's divine.

After the ballet, I enjoyed a little trip to the "Dancing House," an iconic modern architecture building in Prague, darling. I felt like a ballerina myself, swirling about with the graceful curves. This place made me think about how every dance and every movement is architecture! The art of form. The beautiful, dynamic way that architecture, ballet and fashion go hand in hand.

This Prague experience is everything I had hoped for. This journey feels very "Pink Tutu!" Oh my, I know I will want to come back for more... soon! I believe I can fit one more adventure before I go back to Derbyshire (I am already booked to perform for my lovely home village!)

A Promise of More...

Keep a lookout on my www.pink-tutu.com website next Wednesday (and every Wednesday for that matter, darling!) - Iā€™ll be sharing the full photographic tour, detailing my fabulous experiences in Prague - but that, my sweet, is for another weekā€™s post! I need to tell you about more dance schools I have visited and some more fashion finds!

Until next week, my darlingā€¦

Stay Fabulous!

Love,

Emma
