Prague, darling! Post #1204: Tutu-ing Through the Czech Capital
Hello, my lovely tutus!
Itās Emma here, back from the magical land of Prague! You might say that my tutu and I have had a positively pink time in this charming city. We arrived by train, naturally - thereās just something about a carriage gliding through the countryside, a vintage feel that makes every journey a little more special, donāt you think?
As always, this tripās been all about ballet, beautiful sights, and indulging my inner fashionista! Pragueās been a dream for both! It feels like a fairytale ā think cobbled streets, whimsical buildings, and enough coffee shops to keep any ballet dancer fuelled.
Now, youāre probably thinking, āWhatās Emmaās excuse for a pink tutu this time?ā Well, Prague has plenty of reasons! It was, after all, home to the famed ballerina, Anna Pavlova. You simply canāt visit the city without thinking about her graceful moves. Pavlova herself is legendary for her work in bringing ballet to new audiences and making the art form accessible ā just like we're trying to do with our love of the tutu, darlings!
My trip was packed full of activities for the tutu enthusiast. You could say it was a ballet lover's paradise, so let me give you a peek into my adventures:
Ballet by the River
Iāll start with the highlight ā my visit to the magical National Theatre. A majestic, neo-renaissance beauty, nestled on the banks of the Vltava River, itās the crown jewel of Czech theatre. The exterior alone is a show-stopping spectacle, with its impressive facades and romantic setting. But the real magic happened inside!
I was completely enthralled by the breathtaking performance of Giselle, the hauntingly beautiful story of a young peasant girl and her passionate love for a nobleman. It was truly captivating!
This performance was so inspiring! I absolutely loved the dramatic use of costumes and the powerful, passionate movements. The ballerinas moved with such grace and fluidity, it took my breath away! After the performance, I had to wander around the theatre, basking in the atmosphere.
Of course, no ballet outing is complete without a touch of shopping. My new, pastel-pink tulle skirt is a direct inspiration from Giselle! Isnāt it divine? Itās giving dreamy and whimsical with just a dash of gothic ā a perfect match for my personality, wouldnāt you say? I even got myself some ballet-inspired jewellery - dainty ballerina earrings to match the energy of the performance, and I couldnāt resist picking up a new ballet book, exploring the history of costumes from across the world, just divine!
Ballet by the Street
Now, if you've followed my travels, you know I adore ballet anywhere, even on the streets! In Prague, I found a few truly adorable street performers who captured my heart. Imagine, twirling and spinning to the melody of classical tunes. It was truly delightful! One particularly talented young lady captivated my attention with her precise, effortless movements. Afterward, we chatted about ballet and her passion, and you know I bought some delicious traditional Czech treats for her!
I even caught some of Pragueās enchanting classical street music performances, filling the cobbled streets with the magic of Mozart, Beethoven, and Debussy.
A Bit of Parisian Flare
But, wait ā thereās more! A ballet enthusiast must experience Prague's Parisian vibe, don't you think? Now, picture this ā a beautiful afternoon spent wandering through the charming Old Town Square, enjoying the atmosphere and stunning architecture. Weāre talking a blend of baroque and gothic, with colourful houses adorning the squares. Itās breathtaking!
For lunch, I opted for trdelnĆk ā that divine cinnamon pastry rolled and dusted with sugar ā my guilty pleasure for a perfect sugary treat to satisfy a sweet tooth. A ballerina has to indulge in something delicious every now and again, right?
I spent the afternoon exploring Charles Bridge. Imagine strolling across this historic bridge with the city skyline glistening in the sun. Itās picture-perfect and makes me dream of creating my own ballet performance set against such beauty! I even bought myself a souvenir, a sweet little ceramic ballerina trinket to remind me of my time in Prague.
