Prague Calling: A Pink Tutu Odyssey (Blog Post #1238)
Bonjour mes chéries!
It’s Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to Prague, a city that stole my heart as easily as a rogue waltz in the middle of the Grand Theatre. This week’s blog, hot off the press and fresh off the train, is dedicated to everything magical about this magnificent city, its captivating ballet scene, and the divine outfit I had to wear, naturally, a pink tutu!
As you know, dear readers, Wednesday is my day for the Pink Tutu Prague blog, a weekly journey where we explore the world together, one twirling adventure at a time. And Prague? Well, it simply begged to be explored in a voluminous, delightful tulle confection. This is why, after the most satisfyingly scenic train journey from Derbyshire, the minute my luggage was deposited in my room (more on that later!) I dashed straight to the very centre of the city to purchase the perfect pink tulle accessory. It wasn’t just any pink tutu; oh no, this one had the softest blush hue imaginable and the most perfectly structured layers. The epitome of ballet chic, if I may say so myself.
My arrival in Prague coincided with the Winter Dance Festival (it runs until March, but who's counting?), which means the city was teeming with ballerinas like myself! It’s no secret I absolutely adore seeing dancers performing. Every flick of the wrist, every arabesque, every plié—they speak to my very soul! There were performances in every square, every church, every park, even the metro was humming with the soft thrum of dance. I was in ballet heaven, and it was everything my tutu-wearing heart desired.
The first order of business was to hit up the National Theatre. This is the grand dame of Czech ballet, a stunning structure in the heart of the city, which really captures the spirit of the region’s rich ballet history. Did you know that Prague has a very deep, very beautiful connection to the art of ballet? Even further back than you’d imagine. We're talking royal courts, aristocratic patrons, and generations of dancing legacy. It’s truly fascinating, especially as it ties into the design and style of the ballet costumes themselves.
After an enchanting visit to the museum at the National Theatre, the day culminated with an unbelievable ballet performance. You know I’m a stickler for details when it comes to a good show, and this did not disappoint. We’re talking exquisite costumes, breath-taking choreography, and dancers with such talent they left my jaw practically on the floor! I may have been wearing my pink tutu in the audience (it was the perfect touch, trust me), but I felt like I was floating on stage right there with them.
After a most delightful ballet experience, I had to find some exquisite pink treats to complete the perfect pink tutu day, because shopping for pink ballet essentials is a serious pastime. Prague, of course, delivered, with exquisite little shops in the Old Town Square. It was there that I discovered my favourite pink lipstick – a vibrant hue that makes any ballet enthusiast look like a modern-day princess. It’s practically a new blush-toned necessity, so make a mental note!
Naturally, all the ballet and the pink led me to the inevitable craving for all things adorable and fluffy, hence my visit to the local equine therapy farm! Not for a ballet class, of course, but for some delightful pony rides through the picturesque countryside. It was there that I discovered that pony riding is a very calming activity. Who knew, right? After that blissful adventure, a perfect pink sunset over the Prague skyline awaited. Pure magic.
Fashion Tip!This city really calls for elegance, especially if you are looking to stand out. For Prague, go for delicate florals paired with classic lace. It creates a charming feminine vibe that feels perfectly in keeping with the beauty and grandeur of the city. My pink tutu, obviously, completed the look with a graceful air that only a true pink tutu devotee could appreciate.
Cultural Curiosity!A fun fact I discovered this week: In Prague, you’re often treated to enchanting musical street performances that include some brilliant classical musicians! Think the iconic strains of Tchaikovsky or Strauss. It truly adds an extra layer of elegance and enchantment to your everyday Prague experience.
My week in Prague, however, wasn’t all ballet, tutus, and ponies. There were delicious cakes in cafes (and no, not just pink ones!) to be consumed, fascinating museums to explore, and charming cobblestone streets to wander. There were endless glimpses into Czech history, art, and culture that left me awestruck at every turn. It's truly an extraordinary place, a unique and magical mix of art and architecture, where old meets new, and the old is constantly inspiring the new. It truly is a city that lives and breathes art.
So what are you waiting for, dear readers? Pack your pink tutu (because you absolutely cannot visit Prague without it!), hop on a train, and come explore with me! Until next week, let your heart flutter with excitement and your imagination dance with delight.
Au revoir mes chéries!
