Pink Tutu Prague: A Ballerina's Whirl Through the City of a Thousand Spires (Blog Post #1241)

Wednesday, 20th March 2019

Bonjour, darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad adventurer, and guess what? I've landed in the fairytale city of Prague! This stunning metropolis, with its charming cobblestone streets, spires that reach for the sky, and a rich history whispered on every corner, is truly the perfect setting for a tutu-tastic escapade.

I know you're probably thinking, "Emma, what are you doing in Prague?" Well, my dears, the truth is that this week's ballet performances have been paying quite well, and I couldn't resist the chance to treat myself to a little European adventure. This journey was planned meticulously (like the choreography for a grand ballet!), and a little hint of pink crept into every aspect, naturally. From my flamingo-hued travel essentials to the carefully chosen ballet outfits I've packed (each one a unique masterpiece), it's clear I'm ready to spread some pink joy throughout Prague!

But before I delve into my sartorial choices, let's talk about how I arrived at this beautiful city. As always, the train was the obvious choice. I do love a good pony ride, but Prague isn't exactly close enough for a delightful equestrian adventure. My trusty carriage whisked me through the scenic countryside, past rolling hills and quaint villages, and then onto Prague's main railway station. The thrill of train travel never gets old! And you know me, darling, I simply can't resist a train journey without a sprinkle of pink!

Now, upon arriving, I found myself whisked into the grand lobby of a most delightful hotel, a real gem of a place in the very heart of the city. Imagine, my dears, a symphony of Victorian charm, with stained glass windows shimmering with pastel hues (you know I adore pastels) and an intricate spiral staircase, just perfect for twirling! They even had a grand piano in the corner, with a selection of scores neatly placed atop it, ready for some impromptu piano performances! Oh, the temptation! But for now, the unpacking of my stylish luggage and a well-deserved cuppa were my top priorities.

And speaking of my luggage, I have to tell you about my pink luggage! It's a vibrant flamingo pink, my darling, a dazzling colour that immediately captures attention. You can imagine the stares I received as I dragged it through the station! And not just any stares, you see, but the sort of curious, intrigued glances that say, "What's in that pink beauty?" Oh, how I do love being the centre of attention!

But the main reason for my visit to this enchanting city was, of course, the ballet! Prague, it turns out, has a fantastic ballet scene, full of rich history and dazzling performances. I simply couldn't wait to dive into the world of tutu and pointe shoes, of soaring leaps and delicate movements. And believe me, dears, there was no lack of inspiration for my wardrobe!

My very first night in Prague was an absolute treat for the senses. A charming little theatre in a quiet alleyway played host to a breathtaking performance of Swan Lake. Oh, the drama, the passion, the romance! The dancers' costumes were exquisite, particularly the ballerina's ethereal white tutu, a symbol of grace and innocence. I couldn't help but feel a bit of envious inspiration! I knew exactly what colour I had to paint my own tutu. You can expect a brand-new pink creation, perfect for a Prague evening promenade.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Of course, I had to squeeze in a little bit of ballet history while in Prague. You can't come to such a vibrant, cultural city without diving deep into the past, darling. And Prague's ballet history is as captivating as a classical masterpiece!

Turns out, Prague has had a long and illustrious ballet tradition, dating back to the 16th century! You won't believe the fabulous historical figures and performances that grace the city's ballet past! I mean, I love a good story! The ballet first found its roots in the courtly circles, performed for noblemen and women as an entertainment and social event. Oh, to imagine the costumes, the lavish sets, the grand gestures! They would have had us spinning in our tutus, I tell you!

By the 19th century, ballet began to flourish in Prague. The city saw the rise of prominent ballet schools and theatres, all dedicated to nurturing this delicate and artistic dance form. During the golden era, ballet stars and legendary dancers from all over the world came to perform in Prague. Talk about some serious stage presence, my darlings! The audience was in a frenzy, all vying for the best view of these majestic dancers. You can imagine me amongst them, with my pink tutu, taking it all in, feeling like I've travelled through time!

One of the highlights of my historical excursion was a visit to the National Theatre, Prague’s iconic cultural institution. This breathtaking masterpiece of architecture houses one of the most prominent ballet companies in all of Europe. This was where the legendary ballerina Anna Pavlova, who wore such amazing costumes and had such stage presence, danced in the early 20th century, and I found myself standing in her shadow, feeling the weight of history upon my tutu-clad shoulders. You see, darling, the beauty of ballet is that it truly transcends time, connecting us to generations past.

But Prague isn't just about grand ballet performances, you see. This beautiful city also boasts a thriving street performance scene, a real celebration of creativity! The first day I walked down the narrow, cobbled alleyway, I was met with a stunning performance! It was a small group of performers in beautiful, vibrant costumes. I couldn't resist, darling, I had to stop and watch their graceful, passionate performance! Imagine my joy when I saw a flash of pink! It was an acrobat twirling through the air, their costume featuring the most adorable pink feathers. My heart skipped a beat - just another confirmation that pink reigns supreme!

Pink Power & Parisian Chic

But you know me, darlings! No trip is complete without a shopping expedition! Prague, a city of ancient magic, has also proven to be a fabulous source of pink and tutu-tastic inspiration.

From the moment I arrived, I knew Prague's shopping scene would not disappoint! The charming boutiques are a veritable wonderland of colourful clothes, from dazzling vintage finds to contemporary masterpieces.

But for me, the most thrilling find was a hidden gem of a shop nestled away on a side street, in an alley filled with fairy lights. It's called "Tutu & Chic," and I'm not just saying this because it suits my love for tutus! It really is a haven of whimsical delights, overflowing with fabrics of every shade imaginable. But the moment I laid eyes on their range of pink tulle, my heart skipped a beat! Pink galore! The textures, the softness, the vibrancy, oh, darling! I couldn't help but start brainstorming designs in my mind, and you can bet your tutu on a brand-new pink creation! This Parisian-style shop with a dash of bohemian spirit truly resonated with me. Imagine me strolling down those charming Prague streets in a new, pink Parisian creation, feeling my best!

Now, imagine me strolling through Prague, not in my pink tutu, but in something far more elegant: a charming cafe, sipping coffee, with delicate pink lace adorning my teacup. The streets of Prague are alive with fashion inspiration, and it's no surprise that a Parisian-inspired aesthetic pervades the city. Parisian chic has taken Prague by storm, embracing feminine silhouettes, vintage flourishes, and a sprinkle of bold colours. I am most definitely inspired by the fashion scene! My suitcase will soon be overflowing with Parisian-inspired pink delights, perfect for my blog and my daily dose of ballet fun!

Tutu & Treat

After my pink shopping spree, it was time for another essential part of any travel adventure - indulging in the local culinary delights. Prague, my darling, is truly a food lover's paradise, offering an incredible range of flavours. I discovered hidden alleyway cafes, historic taverns overflowing with delicious food, and romantic rooftop restaurants with a breathtaking view of the city's iconic skyline. Prague is a city that invites you to indulge, and I am certainly not going to resist that temptation.

However, I simply cannot ignore my sweet tooth! I stumbled upon a little patisserie tucked away on a charming little street, its storefront displaying a breathtaking selection of cakes, cookies, and tarts. Now, you'd be surprised what the owner offered! My favourite part was that it was all entirely pink! The entire cafe was decorated with pastel pinks, from the walls to the tables to even the tiny flower arrangement placed on the table. I truly felt at home, a small pink haven in this gorgeous city.

But you know, it wasn't the décor, though beautiful, that had me raving. It was the food! My darling, every item they sold was painted with delicate, natural food colouring. A truly elegant palette. Their pink macarons are literally something out of a dream! Imagine: perfectly circular, slightly delicate, made with the finest flour, all delicately painted with the most vibrant pinks. Oh, I practically devoured them in one sitting!

This city has simply captured my heart, with its fairytale charm, delicious cuisine, and, of course, the magnificent world of ballet. The streets are my stage, and every day feels like a performance, especially when wearing pink!

I have a feeling, my dears, that Prague and I will have many more encounters. This city's charm is utterly irresistible.

Stay tuned for more adventures in pink, darling. The next post is coming next week, full of more pink escapades!

Until then, keep spreading pink joy and embracing your inner ballerina.

Yours in pink, Emma
