Prague: Where Ballet Meets Baroque, Post #1262

Bonjour mes chéries!

This week, I'm pirouetting my way through Prague, a city so charming, so historic, and so perfectly pink, it’s like a fairytale come true! This magical metropolis is overflowing with majestic castles, stunning bridges, and the most adorable pastel-coloured houses. The cobblestone streets echo with the sound of trams, the air is thick with the scent of freshly baked pastries, and the laughter of tourists mingles with the soft strains of a street musician’s accordion.

My little pink heart is positively bursting with joy! Prague is simply irresistible, a delightful mix of history, art, and architecture, where the beauty of the past seamlessly blends with the excitement of the present.

Now, before we get swept away by Prague’s romantic allure, let’s dive into what you really came here for: The Ballet!

My quest this week was the Národní Divadlo, Prague’s renowned National Theatre. Established in 1881, the theatre has an incredible history, embodying the very heart and soul of Czech culture. And believe me, darling, it's every bit as magnificent as you'd imagine. It's all marble, velvet, and gold, adorned with the most exquisite frescos. You could get lost in the splendour for hours.

But alas, I couldn't afford to get too lost! The reason I was at the National Theatre was for something truly special: a performance of the timeless masterpiece, Swan Lake! It's been a long-held dream of mine to witness this ballet in such a beautiful setting, and I'm thrilled to tell you it surpassed every expectation.

The dancers, graceful as swans and powerful as the wind, captivated us with every step. The choreography, a breathtaking interplay of light and shadow, brought the story to life with an intensity that stole my breath away. I felt transported to a world of passion, loss, and redemption, each note of Tchaikovsky’s iconic score amplifying the emotional depths of the performance.

But let's not forget the wardrobe, shall we? Oh, the glorious, feather-light tutus of the swan maidens, shimmering in ethereal shades of white and soft pink, were simply divine! You can imagine how excited this little ballerina was to witness this ballet spectacle!

Of course, a trip to the National Theatre wouldn’t be complete without indulging in the decadent pre-show dinner at the Theatre Restaurant, where I enjoyed a traditional Czech meal of bramborovĂ© knedlĂky (potato dumplings), a hearty serving of svikova (beef with mushroom sauce), and the sweetest, most delicate trdelnik pastry with vanilla ice cream – divine!

I found myself transported back to Victorian times as I sat amongst the exquisite chandeliers, swirling around the opulent interiors with my trusty porcelain teapot. It was all quite extraordinary, and I felt like a princess straight out of a fairy tale.

The following morning, I felt invigorated and ready for a more active experience. I put on my pinkest, most perfectly pleated tutu and made my way to Dance Prague, a charming studio tucked away in a cobbled courtyard. There, amidst a friendly group of dancers, I finally learned the secret to the českĂœ tanec, the traditional Czech dance, and learned how to weave my way through the complex footwork and joyful clapping patterns of this beautiful tradition.

Afterwards, feeling quite the pink ballerina princess I decided to explore the enchanting Old Town Square. Here, amongst the lively street performers, I stumbled upon a delightful little vintage shop brimming with delicate porcelain dolls, antique trinkets, and – oh joy! – vintage tutus!

I fell in love with the soft blush pink of one exquisite tutu adorned with beautiful beading. It was the perfect shade of pink for the soft evening light bathed Prague.

It was only a hop and a skip away to the Charles Bridge, Prague’s most iconic landmark, where I captured the moment in a timeless selfie with the pink tutu twirling, of course, the setting sun illuminating its pastel beauty. I shared the image to my beloved Instagram, earning a whopping 387 likes, quelle surprise!

Prague really knows how to capture the heart. After exploring its charming side streets, meandering through hidden squares, and soaking up the historical energy of its landmarks, I realised this city wasn't just about architecture or beauty. It's a tapestry of creativity, artistry, and human connection that truly makes this place extraordinary.

If you’re ever planning a trip, make sure you take time to stroll through the manicured parks and gardens, savor the incredible flavours of Czech cuisine, and revel in the musical spirit that breathes life into every cobblestone. Prague is more than a destination. It’s an adventure that ignites the senses and sparks a deep-seated feeling of magic within the heart.

Next week, I’m exploring the artistic heart of London’s West End and finding the perfect tutus to complete my London theatre wardrobe!

Love and pink tutu kisses, Emma
