Prague: Where Fairytales Meet Fashion! (Pink Tutu Blog Post #1265)

Hello, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, and I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to share my Prague adventures with you. This beautiful city has stolen my heart, and it's no surprise it's a place so many have fallen in love with over the years. The fairytale charm of its ancient buildings, the enchanting river winding its way through the heart of the city, the delicious smell of warm bread wafting from every bakery - it truly feels like I've stepped into a storybook.

This week's blog post is dedicated to the magical experience I had seeing the National Theatre's "Sleeping Beauty", a production I was eagerly awaiting. This exquisite ballet set the bar high for performances in Prague - the dancing was phenomenal, the costumes utterly gorgeous (you can bet your bottom dollar there was more than a smattering of pink tulle involved!), and the sheer theatrical brilliance of it all simply left me breathless.

Before I get into the show, I've got to tell you about the journey here, because even getting to Prague was a part of the adventure. After my recent performance in Derbyshire (how lovely to perform close to home!), I packed my bags with a bevy of fabulous pink outfits and, wouldn't you know it, opted for a romantic train journey through Europe. The carriage was decked out with comfortable seats, and there were some delicious pastries and local wines on offer, too. It was such a beautiful journey through picturesque landscapes, each scene painted in different colours as the sunlight changed throughout the day. There's something incredibly peaceful about the gentle swaying motion of the train, it gives you a chance to reflect, and maybe even have a little snooze.

Upon arrival in Prague, I treated myself to a private pony-drawn carriage ride around the city, a perfect way to admire its architecture in all its glory. The sound of the hooves clopping against the cobblestones was such a lovely soundtrack, and the carriage itself was utterly charming - all velvety interiors and brass lanterns.

But back to the main event, Sleeping Beauty.

First, we need to talk about fashion, because in Prague, every occasion is a perfect opportunity to embrace a fabulously pink tutu ensemble. I went for a pale pink, cloud-like tulle skirt with layers upon layers of ruffles and matched it with a delicate floral blouse and a little lace-up, pink ballerina flat. My makeup was dewy and my hair styled with soft curls โ€“ the ultimate delicate fairy-inspired look.

The theatre itself is breathtaking. The National Theatre is truly a sight to behold โ€“ a magnificent building steeped in history, where art, drama, and music blend seamlessly. It felt a bit like walking back in time as I explored its grand interiors. As I stepped into the auditorium, I was transported to another world - opulent red velvet seats, stunningly painted murals adorning the walls, and the sheer grandeur of it all left me speechless.

Then, the lights dimmed, the orchestra played a delicate melody, and the curtain rose. From the first moment the dancers took to the stage, I was captivated by the pure elegance and effortless grace of the performance. The movements were precise and fluid, like graceful strokes of a brush painting an exquisite tableau.

"Sleeping Beauty" is a story about dreams and fairy dust, of love and awakening, and it was perfectly portrayed through the language of dance. The beautiful costumes - all shimmery and bejewelled, naturally with a liberal dose of pink - only added to the enchanting effect. The evil fairyโ€™s outfit, a magnificent swirl of black and red tulle, made me want to write a new ballet based on her side of the story, for sure!

After the final curtain call, a sense of exhilaration lingered in the air. My cheeks were flushed with excitement and I just knew I would never forget the night. There's nothing quite like experiencing a beautiful story, brought to life through dance.

As the evening drew to a close, I couldn't help but feel that a visit to Prague, a place so full of rich history and artistic beauty, was not just a trip but an experience that left its mark. I left feeling refreshed, inspired and with my love for pink tutus even stronger! I know I'll be returning to Prague again soon, to soak up some more of its fairytale atmosphere.
