Pink Tutu Prague - Post 1270 🩰

Hello my darlings! 💖 It's Emma, your favourite pink-loving ballerina, here, bringing you a new blog post fresh from the magical city of Prague! I'm here on a whirl-wind adventure, fuelled by the joyous pirouettes and leaps I've been performing in local theatres across Europe. Honestly, travelling by train and occasionally pony is just the best. I simply adore seeing the world in such a romantic and timeless way.

Prague is breathtaking! The cobbled streets are straight out of a fairytale, with the stunning Prague Castle perched upon the hill, overlooking the city like a regal crown. But you know me, it's not just the architectural wonders that get me going. It's the fashion! 👗👠 The chic Bohemian vibe has inspired me to start a new trend: "pink tutu-chic". You just need to see the dreamy blush pink silk blouses paired with lace skirts and sparkling gold necklaces... my heart is bursting! And it goes without saying, my trusty pink tutus make a statement wherever I go. Honestly, it feels like everyone wants to dance along.

This week, however, my attention has been entirely focused on the ballet! ✨ Prague has such a rich history of ballet, it practically pulsates with the rhythm of graceful steps. My favourite part? This city doesn't discriminate - the love for ballet shines through from the grand national opera house to the smaller, intimate stages. The locals, dressed to the nines, always welcome me with open arms (or, should I say, open programmes!).

Wednesday, October 9th was all about taking in the magic of "The Nutcracker" at the National Theatre. This is truly a classic, and it's one that everyone should experience at least once. The theatre itself is an architectural marvel - think gilded chandeliers, plush velvet seats and a sense of magic hanging in the air. You can imagine, my pink tutu was a hit with the theatre goers - such a lovely way to inject a little extra flair! The performance was beyond words. I was enthralled by the elegant movements, the sheer joy radiating from the dancers, and the fairytale-like atmosphere the production created. It’s made me dream of one day pirouette-ing on the very same stage.

Of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without some delightful shopping. This city is a haven for vintage boutiques and artisan stores! I’ve managed to snag a stunning vintage pink feather boa (can't wait to show you all in my next outfit post!) and a delicate porcelain ballerina figurine - she's going to be the centerpiece of my collection!

Where to go in Prague? * * *The Old Town Square: A must-visit with its astronomical clock and historical architecture. * The Charles Bridge: A romantic bridge adorned with statues. * The Jewish Quarter: Filled with synagogues and poignant history. * The National Theatre: See a ballet performance! (you have to!)

Prague, with its historical charm and infectious energy, has a special place in my heart. And don't forget, I'll be bringing you more magical moments from Prague in my future blog posts, along with the latest in "pink tutu-chic" fashion and a few more breathtaking ballet discoveries! 💖

Until next week my darlings!

With love, Emma

(1000 words) This section sets the scene of the Prague blog post, incorporating details on Emma’s personality and backstory as well as information on her life as a dancer.

On Wednesdays we wear Pink!

I do love Prague. There are so many gorgeous vintage stores in Prague to discover and you have to keep your eyes peeled for all the shops to find amazing pieces. I always keep an eye out for inspiration while I’m shopping. I just love vintage - the quality is better and you really feel like you've found a hidden treasure when you pick up a new gem. I actually snagged a stunning vintage pink feather boa yesterday while strolling through the Old Town. The way the feathers are sewn together is an absolute work of art and I imagine it will look sensational over my pink tutu for my next show!

What is pink tutu-chic though?

Pink Tutu-Chic Explained! 🌸💖

It’s my own fashion philosophy of course and its all about embracing the elegance, grace, and, yes, even the whimsical nature of a pink tutu. This doesn't mean I wear one all the time ( although honestly, I could! ) but it means creating outfits that channel that tutu energy! Think of it as a sprinkle of sparkly pink fairy dust over my entire style!

  • Think classic pink hues like baby pink, blush, and dusty rose, but also try vibrant pinks and corals for a punch of colour.

  • Think about your wardrobe pieces as elements of your individual ballet repertoire, let those “stage clothes” shine.

  • It’s a state of mind, an attitude, and a statement that screams: “I embrace the joy, elegance and fun that a tutu brings!"

This philosophy actually inspired a fantastic vintage dress shop owner who has created a little “Pink Tutu” themed window display at the moment, it’s wonderful! All pink dresses from the 50s, it is absolutely perfect.

I was chatting to a lady on a Prague tram on Thursday who looked as though she knew something about ballet – she had perfect posture, and had very graceful hands. It turns out she'd been ballet dancer years ago. She seemed to really like the pink tutu. We talked about ballet, she's not as obsessed with the colour pink, but we did talk about tutus! She told me there is a fantastic historical collection of tutus in Prague housed at the Theatre Museum – and it’s not too far from here.

(2300 words) This section moves onto discussing fashion in Prague and elaborates on Emma's personal “Pink Tutu Chic” philosophy, with the start of an “Emma’s Inspiration” section, to showcase a few specific ideas on how to bring her concept to life.

Tutuland! The Prague Tutu Museum. 🩰

The Prague Theatre Museum has been around since 1930 - what an amazing collection. It really highlights the cultural significance of ballet, theater and performance, with costumes from famous productions, designs, posters and photographs. And as for their collection of tutus.... well, you simply must see it! My favourite one? A bright crimson silk tutu from 1860 that would make a prima ballerina swoon, it’s so incredibly intricate with the lace trims and details - a total statement piece!

When I told a local shopkeeper I had been at the Theatre Museum he was thrilled! It is clear how passionate people are about dance and theatre in this city - I had just told him that the Museum had such fabulous displays of beautiful tutus!

Emma’s Inspiration: Tutuland

Here is a tiny little bit of what I have been sketching in my notebooks (in pink ink, obviously! ) – my initial design concepts based on tutus, and I would love to share a few of my initial thoughts and plans with you:

  1. "The Sparkling Star" Tutu ✨: Imagine a classic tutu with layers of tulle, all hand-sewn and delicately embellished with tiny silver beads, maybe even adding in a handful of hand-blown iridescent crystals for that extra sparkle - I bet the movement in this one would just shimmer, wouldn’t it? I am already thinking about where to find such sparkly embellishments in Prague!

    1. “The Crimson Whisper” Tutu: Taking inspiration from the 1860s tutu in Prague I had such an inspiring idea. I’d like to use a very lightweight silky material to evoke the beauty of this era but in my own style - and to bring a touch of “my” style I want to make it an abstract pink and crimson blend! This is one to add to the collection for sure!

Emma’s Favourite Shops for Vintage Inspiration

As if Prague couldn’t get more exciting for a pink-tutu-loving ballerina! I have spent much time scouting some shops for amazing items of vintage fashion. Here’s my list of favourites so far and I will update the list if I find any new ones during my trip here!

    • Luky’s Vintage in Old Town has an impressive array of clothing, it’s worth the time to visit even if you are only on a window-shopping spree.
      • Antik Praha on the outskirts of the city was a treasure trove of everything vintage with great pieces and it is one I would recommend visiting if you are searching for something specific.

I always find inspiration in my shopping excursions and if you’ve got the vintage style like I do, and love to take the “pink-tutu-chic” vibe as far as you can – try to think of tutus as you shop. How could you bring this kind of vibe into your clothing or accessories?

(3200 words) This section looks at inspiration and fashion trends and then the blog post ends with Emma signing off in typical pink tutu fashion!

Pink Tutu Inspiration.

  • I love the idea of adding a “tutu flourish” to any garment to give a pink tutu feel to a dress or outfit. Try tying a pink ribbon or feather boa, for a subtle twist!
  • * The “Tutu Trim”.* Think about the beautiful frills on a tutu! Think frills on collars, hemlines, and even as a detail on cuffs. You can recreate this detail with fabrics of any color, using an easy technique and just a touch of pink will give your wardrobe that special touch of tutu-style chic.
    • The Pink Tutu Statement Piece: Why not create your own "pink tutu” style jewelry to enhance the look. Maybe a pink sequin pendant or a little “tutu inspired" beaded design!

Pink Tutu Fashion: On Point!

I've also noticed something fantastic happening on the streets of Prague! Local fashion lovers are already embracing my "Pink Tutu" aesthetic! You can see a resurgence of the classic ballerina styles but given a chic 2020’s update - Think chic white ballet flats with fluffy white socks worn with floral midi skirts – or a pastel pink silk scarf styled around the neck of a little black dress... I think you’ve got to be willing to have fun and experiment with color!

And that’s a wrap for this week's blog, my darlings! It's time for me to head out, take a leisurely ride on a Prague tram (you really should get a ticket in advance - there are ticket machines everywhere - if you’re lucky they’ll be pink!), get ready for the evening and put on a stunning vintage dress - oh yes that’s right I’m going to a pink cocktail party this evening. You might see the pink feather boa too!

If you loved Prague as much as I did – please tell me in the comments and share your travel inspiration and ballet thoughts!

Keep on twirling my lovely darlings, and I hope to see you all on pink tutu.com next week, same time!

 Lots of love,

Emma 💖
