Prague - Pink Tutu Prague Ballet: A Week of Whimsical Wonder (Blog Post #1291)

Wednesday 4th March, 2020

Hello my lovely pink-tutu-loving darlings! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in the magical city of Prague! Oh, the wonders of Prague… it’s a city that truly sparkles with romance and history. But I didn’t just come here to soak up the atmosphere (although let’s be honest, I’ve certainly done that!). My mission, as always, is to share my love for all things pink, beautiful, and tutu-fied, with the world. And believe me, Prague is a city that practically begs for a pink tutu!

This week's blog post is extra special because it combines two of my favourite things: ballet and travel. I was here specifically to see a performance at the beautiful Prague National Theatre. Can you even imagine? My heart skipped a beat when I saw the exquisite Neo-Renaissance building - talk about grand entrances!

The Story Behind The Tutu

Before we dive into the details of the show, let's talk about the history of this little garment that holds such a special place in my heart. The tutu as we know it, with its whimsical shape and feather-light feel, only came about in the early 19th century! Think ballerinas twirling in Romantic ballets, like "Giselle". They were looking for something to give the dancers greater freedom of movement, and the tutu became the symbol of ethereal grace, lightness, and, of course, artistry. It just had to be a part of my adventure here in Prague!

*Reaching Prague on Two Wheels (Well, Kinda) *

This journey started in the heart of Derbyshire, with a magical pony ride through the rolling hills! Now, I know what you're thinking - “Emma, pony rides? That's quite the change from your usual ballet shoes and tutus!" But here’s the thing: there's a certain elegance to riding a pony through the countryside that matches the spirit of ballet itself. Both activities have their own unique grace and form. So yes, I had a pony adventure in Derbyshire before reaching Prague - but how else was I supposed to reach the train station in time to catch the magical Eurostar?!

Prague's Ballet Scene

Speaking of the train, the journey from Derbyshire was an experience in itself. I indulged in a delicious pastry and gazed at the beautiful changing scenery, taking it all in. The excitement built with every click of the train tracks - just like the anticipation before a ballet performance.

But let's get back to Prague. Oh my goodness, this city is a visual feast. Every cobbled street feels like it's stepping straight out of a fairytale. I couldn't resist snapping photos in my pink tutu, after all, who doesn’t love a touch of magic? It was like stepping onto a fairytale set!

And it wasn't just the scenery that stole my heart. I discovered that Prague boasts a lively ballet scene with world-class performances!

The Performance At The National Theatre

And what was this performance, you ask? Well, imagine this: The story of a magical princess locked away in a castle tower, waiting for her true love, all told with beautiful music and graceful ballet! This is the very story the National Theatre ballet was bringing to life with a new, and I must say quite charming production of "Rapunzel" (complete with a pink and fluffy dragon for extra fun! How adorable!). I’m still thinking about the costumes - they were all so enchanting and captivating. It was definitely the sort of production you could bring your little ballerina dreams to life with, just by sitting in the audience and soaking up the energy!

Pink Tutu Prague Shopping

My time in Prague wasn't just about ballet though! My pink-tutu-loving heart couldn’t stay away from the shops. Let's be honest, you've gotta treat yourself in a city this charming! I had to get some Prague souvenirs. It's not easy finding things in the shops that scream ‘ballet’ but when you're a pink tutu loving, ballerina enthusiast you'll never be stumped!

Of course, I had to add some Prague charm to my collection of ballet shoes - and yes, I’m obsessed with pink ballet shoes! The Prague stores held many a lovely trinket that had my heart skipping a beat! There’s something special about shopping for a memento to remind you of a ballet-filled journey.

My Take On Prague

To sum it up, this Prague adventure was a pink-tutu-clad fairytale come to life! I felt like I stepped into one of my favourite ballerina books - which really makes you feel like you’re in a real fairy-tale when it comes to travel! Prague, with its beautiful architecture, heartwarming history, and charming culture has captured my heart, and it has to be on every pink tutu wearing ballet fan’s bucket list. From exploring its medieval streets to immersing myself in its wonderful ballet scene, I felt transported into a dreamworld. And of course, it was absolutely fabulous wearing my pink tutu as I explored the streets!

And so, my dears, it's time to say goodbye for now. This is just a glimpse of my week in Prague, and it wouldn’t be a true travel blog post without telling you a little more about the people in it. My time in Prague wasn't only filled with amazing shows and shops but with wonderful people I met. Let’s just say that a special someone helped to make it truly memorable! He bought me a rose in the park - so romantic! Oh the magic of Prague - so much to discover!

I’m so looking forward to sharing my next pink-tutu adventures with you - but until then, don't forget to wear pink and dance!

Until next Wednesday,

Your tutu-loving, Prague-smitten Emma.

*Stay tuned next Wednesday for more from Prague! *
