Prague: A Fairytale in Pink (Post #1346)
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-clad travel buddy, bringing you all the whimsical wonder from the charming streets of Prague. It's Wednesday, which means it's time for my weekly dose of fashion, ballet, and fabulousness! And oh, Prague, you are such a feast for the senses!
Today, we're talking about all things pink and all things ballet.
Firstly, pink. Let's just acknowledge that pink is the colour of everything lovely, right? It's the colour of childhood dreams, fairy tales, and that joyful feeling you get when you've just scored the perfect pair of shoes. Prague itself is a pastel dreamland, with its pretty buildings in shades of buttercup yellow, dusky rose, and, yes, you guessed it, pink! I spotted a whole building in the prettiest shade of bubblegum pink yesterday - my heart did a little pirouette.
Now, ballet, my life's obsession. Did you know that the history of tutus is actually quite fascinating? It's not all about fluffy layers and romantic swishes. In the 1830s, tutus were pretty much just skirts that were short and loose. Marie Taglioni, a legendary ballerina, decided that she wanted to feel light and free when she danced, so she ditched the traditional long skirt for a shorter version that allowed for more movement.
Can you imagine a ballet class without a tutu? It's simply unthinkable!
This week in Prague, my darling tutu and I have been doing all the ballet-themed things:
- Classes at the magical "Dancing Prague" studio: It's tucked away in a beautiful courtyard and offers some of the best ballet instruction in the city. I tried out a "ballet barre for beginners" class and, my darlings, my glutes are still thanking me.
- Attending a stunning performance of "Swan Lake" at the magnificent National Theatre: The grandeur of this building alone took my breath away, but the ballet itself was breathtaking!
- Visiting the magical "Ballet Prague" shop on Old Town Square: This shop is a wonderland of all things ballet - tutus, pointe shoes, leotards, books... you name it, they have it!
Oh, the beauty of ballet! The grace, the artistry, the stories told through movement.
Speaking of movement, how did I get to Prague you ask? Why by train of course! Thereās no better way to soak in the countryside than by train, and besides, I think the train journey is part of the whole magical travel experience, especially when it is followed by a pony ride.
Hereās a sneak peek into my journey to this pink wonderland,
Day 1: Prague's Old Town Charm:
My first morning in Prague, I simply had to get my daily dose of ballet in, so I popped on my pink tulle skirt, grabbed a latte, and went on a morning promenade through Old Town Square, and my, oh, my, Pragueās Old Town was such a delightful feast for the eyes. I swear, every cobblestone street and quaint little cafe just screamed āFairy Taleā. I made sure I got my pink tutu selfie with the majestic Astronomical Clock!
In the evening, I dined in the most magical restaurant ever, one I found on a side street - a secret spot called āThe Rose Gardenā (yes, pink!), where the chandeliers were all rose gold and the waiter brought me the cutest little pink porcelain teapot. My darlings, this was the real Alice-in-Wonderland kind of experience!
Day 2: Pragueās Fairytale Castle & Ballet Dreams:
We took a delightful morning trip up to Prague Castle, where my darling pink tutu swirled gracefully along with the elegant architecture. I just can't help myself; a ballerina always has to add a touch of grace to her travels.
Then, I discovered this fabulous little vintage shop overflowing with antique fashion accessories and costume jewellery. And you know, there are tutus everywhere.
As dusk approached, I took a pink-tutu-filled walk down Charles Bridge and marvelled at the glistening views across the river. There's just something so romantic about the cityscape at dusk, donāt you think?
Later, we found ourselves mesmerized by āSwan Lakeā at the majestic National Theatre, its pink interior almost blinding. All I could do was gaze at the beautiful ballerina swans. I was utterly transfixed! I had to share my experience with the whole wide world of internet. My instagram post of āswanlakeā is blowing up, reaching nearly 6,000 followers and about 12,000 views of the post - which makes me just a wee bit proud of myself - if I do say so myself.
Day 3: Pink-tutu shopping spree & an enchanting dinner:
Oh, my lovelies! You already know I canāt come to any city without indulging in some pink-tutu-inspired retail therapy! Prague has just the sweetest little boutique tucked away in a courtyard near the old Jewish Quarter ā they had a gorgeous collection of tutus! Imagine a vintage tea-party pink with lace edging ā perfect!
And to round off the day, we found a small little Parisian-style cafe, complete with romantic cafe lights strung across a narrow lane - how idyllic, my dears! The owner treated us to the most delicious raspberry macarons and champagne - it felt like something straight out of a Parisian ballet, except we were in Prague, of course!
Day 4: A pink sunset cruise and dancing through the cobblestones:
We cruised down the river at dusk with a breathtaking pink sunset as our backdrop - perfect for pink tutu photos! We sat on the boat sipping chilled prosecco, and for a brief moment, I felt like a character in a fairytale - a ballerina dreaming her way across a beautiful river!
And yes, of course, it wouldn't be a Prague adventure without a little dancing! I did an impromptu waltz with a charming local boy on Charles Bridge, right by the statues - just a tiny twirl as we stood mesmerized by the magical Prague lights at night.
The pink tutu is my power, you see. I wear it not just to showcase my love for dance, but also because it reminds me to find magic in everyday moments, to twirl my way through life with a smile. Pink makes everything more wonderful, and dancing, it seems, is the key to unlocking the beauty of every place we visit.
What have you learnt? I have learnt to appreciate this city, its architecture, history and ballet ā but what makes it all even more special is finding those little pink details that bring a smile to my face and a twinkle to my eye!
But hey, this is just a taste of the many wonderful adventures my tutu and I have experienced here! Come back next week and join me again for more Parisian pinks, ballet magic, and whimsical discoveries. Donāt forget to check out my Instagram @pinktutu_traveler, I'd love to see your adventures!
And until then, keep on twirling, keep on smiling, and keep on loving pink, my darlings!
Until next week! XOXO, Emma
