Today, I'm brimming with excitement after a weekend trip to this gorgeous city, where I embraced the beautiful architecture, cobblestone streets, and of course, some absolutely divine ballet performances. Let me tell you, it's truly a fairytale come to life!
Pink Tutu Adventures:
Now, before we delve into the captivating world of ballet in Prague, I simply must share some details about my own, erm, "ballet-ific" sartorial choices, because when you're in Prague, pink tutus are a must, darlings! I mean, honestly, with the quaint streets, vibrant cafe culture, and an aura that whispers of romance, how could I possibly resist adding a splash of "pink tulleliciousness" to the scene? 😉
This weekend, I found the most exquisite pink tutu – it practically begged to be photographed against Prague's breathtaking backdrop. The layers of softest tulle, the gentle shimmer under the sunshine, it was pure magic! It certainly added a touch of whimsy to the romantic setting, just like the story of "The Nutcracker" or the graceful pirouettes of "La Sylphide," both stories I adore. I also, of course, went a bit "tutu crazy" in a shop on Old Town Square - there was a glorious pink satin one which I just couldn't resist - think Cinderella's ball gown but made even more fabulous by being pink! It'll be a stunner at the upcoming Derby Ballet Festival, (Don't forget to buy your tickets - www.derbyballet.com ! )
The Majestic Beauty of the National Theatre:
Our first stop was the National Theatre - what an absolute architectural gem! It's like a castle of culture, all opulent details and a captivating presence. The theatre was bustling with activity as we arrived, people in glamorous outfits heading towards the grandeur of the main entrance. This sense of anticipation was positively electrifying!
Prague's Ballet Scene: An Evening of Pure Enchantment
My weekend wouldn't have been complete without an evening dedicated to the art form I hold dearest: ballet. I chose to see "Giselle" (which I knew would be amazing - it’s my absolute favourite) at the National Theatre. The performance was absolutely sublime - a seamless blend of storytelling, emotion, and technical prowess. It was truly breathtaking! The ballerina's grace and poise were utterly mesmerising. Every move, every pirouette was so incredibly detailed, so captivating. The choreography transported me right to the heart of the story, the tragedy, the hope, it was so beautifully evoked by the dancers, especially Giselle, whose story always breaks my heart! It left me absolutely starstruck - such an immersive and delightful experience.
The Parisian Beauty of the Municipal House:
After our evening at the National Theatre, we visited the stunning Municipal House. Now, I’m pretty familiar with Paris – we go there for at least one shopping spree every year, I have a soft spot for the "city of lights" - and it’s so reminiscent of Paris’ architectural grandeur, so luxurious, just perfect for an evening of delightful exploration. And while it doesn't have ballet, the sheer beauty of it all, the elegant stained glass windows, the soaring ceilings, the magnificent music, all drew us in to a beautiful romantic fairy tale. It was a feast for the senses, just like the enchanting world of ballet itself!
Ballet Shopping Spree: My Prague Loot!
After two wonderful days soaking up the charm of Prague, a little ballet-inspired shopping was most certainly in order! Let's just say my tutu collection got a pretty serious upgrade. I discovered a fabulous boutique called "La Ballerina", hidden away in a quiet alley just off Wenceslas Square, it had everything from gorgeous vintage tutus to hand-sewn shoes to incredible dancewear - oh my! I had a tutu overload, and a very full pink and satin-laden bag, which is pretty much the only thing that would stop a true pink tutu lover like me from indulging further!
A Farewell to Prague: Back to Reality, Tutu in Tow
My time in Prague was a whirlwind of pink tutus, magical performances, and breathtaking architecture. As I hopped aboard the train back to Derbyshire, a wave of melancholy washed over me, but it was tinged with such fond memories. Prague is one of those places that captures the soul with its beauty and atmosphere. It's the city where even a ballet-obsessed gal like myself found so much to adore. The city is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also a vibrant cultural hub with an exceptional passion for dance and theatre. I definitely recommend making Prague your next ballet getaway!
But now, my lovelies, back to reality and the exciting schedule that awaits me. The Derby Ballet Festival is calling! It will be bursting with fantastic dancers, performances and activities all themed around this fab, pink, frothy wonderful, tutu-obsessed world we share!
