Pink Tutu Prague: A Ballerina's Whirlwind Romance with the City of a Hundred Spires - Blog Post #1411
Wednesday 22nd June 2022
Hello lovelies! Emma here, reporting live from the heart of Prague, where the cobbled streets are calling to my pink tutu and the whispers of history are dancing through the air. It's been a whirlwind week, filled with fairytale architecture, delicious Czech pastries, and enough pink to make even the most steadfast fashionista blush.
As always, my journey began in a flurry of pink, with my trusty suitcase packed with my very best tutus and a wardrobe of chic, vintage-inspired dresses. I boarded a train at my favourite little station in Derbyshire - it always feels like a step back in time with its charming brick facade and fragrant flowerbeds - and I settled in for the journey, already dreaming of all the fabulous photo opportunities awaiting me in Prague.
Travelling by train is just so much more romantic, isn't it? Watching the scenery whizz by as you sink deeper into a book, or chat excitedly with fellow travellers, just makes you feel a part of the story of the journey, and Prague's fairytale beauty already had me in its spell before I even set foot in the city.
Speaking of storybook settings, the Prague train station itself felt like it could have been lifted straight out of a vintage ballet movie. With its grand, soaring arches, elaborate ironwork, and timeless elegance, it was the perfect stage for a graceful entry into this enchanting city.
From the station, a charming horse-drawn carriage whisked me away to my charming, little boutique hotel in the Old Town Square. Just picturing it transports me back: quaint, floral-decked balconies overflowing with fragrant blossoms, echoing with the merry clatter of horse-drawn carriages, the sweet scent of freshly-baked bread wafting from the bakeries...
Once I'd settled in and unpacked, I knew exactly what my next stop would be: the charming boutiques and vintage stores lining the cobbled streets!
My love for fashion, particularly the delightful charm of vintage and vintage-inspired garments, is woven into the fabric of my very being. It's a passion that, much like ballet, celebrates the grace, artistry, and elegance of a bygone era.
There's something magical about finding hidden treasures amidst dusty shelves, imagining the lives these beautiful garments have lived and the memories they hold. It’s like a ballet of fashion, with each piece a delicate story to be unravelled. I spent hours rummaging through vintage lace and finding perfect, blush-pink blouses with intricate floral details, just begging to be worn with my favourite tutu. I'm already planning to dedicate a whole post to my latest vintage finds, but suffice to say, my suitcase is getting rather full!
That evening, the magic continued as I ventured out to explore the city. A short stroll down the beautiful, illuminated cobbled streets brought me to the heart of the Old Town Square, with its breathtaking architecture and the vibrant, whimsical spirit that only Prague can offer.
Here, a charming little bistro beckoned, its flickering lights inviting me in with a promise of culinary delight. Of course, no visit to Prague is complete without a taste of their famous, delicious, sugar-dusted pastry called Trdelník!
Just the thought of its cinnamon and vanilla scent conjures images of Parisian bakeries and cozy cafes - the perfect backdrop for a delightful pink tutu moment. After savouring my delectable treat, I wandered on, captivated by the fairytale charm of the ancient buildings and the twinkling lights that seemed to dance along the cobblestones.
The real highlight of my Prague journey, however, was just beginning: The ballet performance I'd been waiting for.
A Night at the Theatre
The National Theatre is a masterpiece in its own right - a grand, sweeping building with neo-Renaissance beauty, it was built on the banks of the Vltava River and boasts a rich history of performing arts. This night, it was preparing to welcome "Giselle", a timeless masterpiece of Romantic ballet that perfectly captured the spirit of Prague's charm and the graceful artistry of ballet itself.
Just imagining myself sitting in a velvet-cushioned seat, the golden chandeliers glimmering above, watching the dancers swirl across the stage... I can't help but giggle! Ballet and Prague were simply made for each other. The anticipation was electric.
As the stage lights dimmed, and the orchestra began playing those enchanting notes that transport you into the heart of the story, a wave of excitement and emotion washed over me. Every twirl, every leap, every intricate gesture seemed to embody the very essence of this incredible city. The dancers, with their effortless grace and powerful presence, moved as though they were one with the history and architecture of this enchanting city.
It was a night of pure magic and artistic brilliance that will stay with me for years to come.
Exploring Beyond the Stage
After a morning spent revisiting some of my favourite stores (and perhaps adding a few more vintage treasures to my collection!), I set off on an adventure exploring the other side of Prague. I knew that this city had so much to offer, beyond the charming beauty of its Old Town.
And it didn't disappoint! Stepping off the tram in a lively, bustling neighbourhood, I felt a rush of pure excitement. Colourful street markets bustled with vibrant displays of local crafts and fresh produce. The scent of traditional Czech dishes, filling the air, was almost as inviting as the vibrant colours of the local artist’s studios and art galleries. I just had to find the perfect pink tutu photo op here, surrounded by so much colour and energy.
Later, as the afternoon sun began to set, I found myself drawn to the historic Charles Bridge. This 14th-century gem is a marvel of architecture, with its ancient statues overlooking the enchanting Vltava River, reflecting the setting sun in a kaleidoscope of shimmering colours. Walking along this historic bridge, surrounded by the sounds of laughter, music, and the gentle lapping of water against the stone, felt like walking through a fairytale.
But perhaps the best thing about Prague, beyond its enchanting architecture and delicious food, is the welcoming warmth of its people. Everywhere I go, I find a friendly smile and a welcoming heart. It’s this warmth that makes the city truly magical, and it’s something that you just have to experience for yourself to fully understand.
The charm and captivating allure of Prague is something that, much like the enchanting world of ballet, can only truly be captured in those fleeting moments that dance with delight and delight with a sense of enchanting wonder. As I wander through the streets, sipping on a warm cup of traditional Czech coffee, and imagining my next ballet adventure, I know that Prague will always hold a special place in my heart, forever linked to the grace and elegance that are synonymous with ballet itself.
Until next time, my darling tutudons! I can't wait to share my next adventures with you!
