Prague Dreams: Where Tutus and History Dance in Harmony

Post Number: 1431

Wednesday, November 9th, 2022

Hello darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing travel blogger, back with another fabulous update from the most magical city in the world - Prague! As I write this, I can almost hear the sound of tinkling bells and the sweet melody of Czech folklore in the air. This city is simply enchanting!

This week, I decided to take a trip back in time with a visit to the enchanting Národní divadlo (National Theatre), a majestic structure on the banks of the Vltava river. I’d been wanting to see this stunning example of Czech national Romanticism for ages. And let me tell you, it truly did not disappoint.

Just entering the grand building was like stepping into a scene from a fairy tale. I felt like a princess from another era, ready to twirl my way through history. My favourite thing about Prague? They embrace their heritage with such passion, and you can see it in every corner, from the ancient cobbled streets to the beautifully preserved buildings, each one brimming with history.

A Ballet Dream Come True: The Prague Ballet

But back to the National Theatre, where I was here for the big draw - The Prague Ballet! This incredible company boasts a reputation for breathtaking choreography and artistry, and after my first performance, I'm completely smitten.

The programme this evening featured the National Theatre's ballet company, with their elegant production of the captivating ballet La Bayadère by Marius Petipa, with its beautifully orchestrated combination of Indian folk tales and European Romantic ideals.

The costumes, oh my! The ethereal beauty of the principal dancer's tutu - a fluffy white masterpiece – just had me swooning. The dramatic use of light and shadow across the stage was nothing short of cinematic, creating an atmosphere of both majesty and mystique. And the energy and athleticism of the dancers was simply inspiring. You could feel the emotion and storytelling pulsate through every step. I’d be hard pressed to think of another show I’ve enjoyed as much this year.

A Ballerina's Journey: Finding Inspiration in Prague's Beauty

And beyond the ballet? Oh, my darlings, I could talk for hours about my latest finds and discoveries in Prague. It’s no surprise that this city has captured the imagination of many great writers and poets over the years. From Franz Kafka to Milan Kundera, the city has inspired creative thinkers to pen some of the most impactful works of modern literature.

Speaking of impactful, you might remember my journey through Germany with my faithful pony, Charlie? (Check out those incredible stories on my website!) But as much as I love our equine adventures, sometimes, you just need a little more "wheely" magic in your life. So, you won't be surprised to hear that this time, I hopped on board a lovely train, my journey a whirlwind of picturesque landscapes and charming little towns that passed me by as quickly as the minutes. It's always a wonderful feeling to settle into the cozy interior of a train, the rhythmic click-clack of the wheels grounding me as I watch the world flow by.

Fashion Frenzy: My Pink Tutu Pilgrimage

Of course, a trip to Prague would not be complete without a little shopping spree! Luckily, the city’s charm isn’t confined to historical landmarks; it also boasts a fantastic array of boutiques and vintage shops that make my heart sing with delight. I snagged a gorgeous pink cashmere scarf from a small, tucked-away shop called "Prague Treasures" - I swear the cashmere just whispered my name! And I'm absolutely head-over-heels for a vintage hat I found, all frills and feathers, the kind of thing that screams "Twentieth Century Bohemia!"

It’s funny how these tiny details can give you the most joyful experiences, just like those perfectly worn, aged antique brooches I'm obsessed with! I always find the perfect pink brooches to add a little vintage flair to my tutus – my aim, you see, is to get every single one of you wearing a pink tutu at least once in your lives, even if it’s just for an afternoon.

Tutu Tips from Prague: The Art of Dress-Up and Style

The other day I saw a fantastic display of colourful tutus adorning the windows of the charming “Dancing Shoes” shop, and, well, I simply had to investigate. After all, one cannot just leave such a tutu paradise without a little investigation, wouldn’t you agree? My friends (because, obviously, every fashionable gal needs a gaggle of supportive girlfriends to assist her on her adventures!), you'll be surprised how even a simple tutus can elevate a plain outfit to new levels of fabulousness.

Remember:

  • Colour and Comfort are King: You can never go wrong with a bright, fun colour. Just like Prague, let your inner child play and embrace the vibrant shades and prints of your city. Don't forget: comfort is key, whether it's ballet shoes, sturdy walking boots, or something in between.
  • Think "Romantic" in Prague: Lace, delicate ruffles, a touch of velvet... these all seem to have an especially magical feel here in Prague. It’s almost like a subtle nod to the city’s stunning historical legacy.
  • Mix It Up: No matter your style, always be open to blending different fashion elements! Don’t be afraid to mix a bit of your “ballerina” chic with the charmingly eclectic style that seems to define Prague.
  • And Above All… Let Yourself Shine: Remember, it's all about how you feel! So have a fabulous time experimenting with your outfits, channeling your own unique personality, and letting your style shine as brightly as the City of Prague.

Until next week, darlings, remember to always live life with a touch of pink tutu magic. And if you happen to be in Prague, send me a message – maybe we can even catch a show together!

Keep shining, you fabulous lot, and see you soon!
