Prague Calling! A Pink Tutu Adventure in the City of a Hundred Spires (Blog Post #1517)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, and you know what? This week's adventure took me all the way to Prague! Can you believe it? The City of a Hundred Spires, the heart of Czech history, a dream come true for a tutu-loving ballerina like myself. And yes, I'm already working on making Prague a pink tutu-clad paradise, one ballerina twirl at a time.

The Pink Tutu Express Arrives in Prague

The journey started with a classic train ride from Derbyshire, the rolling green hills of England replaced by the flat plains of Germany, the landscapes changing like scenes in a film. Of course, I had to bring my signature pink tutu, but this time I chose one in a delicate shade of blush, just to match the soft hues of the morning sky. The train was a riot of colours and languages, families, backpackers, everyone going their separate way with dreams dancing in their eyes. I sat by the window, watching the world go by, letting my imagination run wild about Prague and its ballet scene. I'm sure you're wondering why Prague. Well, you see, Prague has a long and rich ballet history! The National Theatre is over 150 years old and they have a long and fascinating history.

A Pink Tutu Parade in the Old Town Square

The moment I stepped out of the train station, the scent of freshly baked bread hit me. Oh my goodness! Prague is a city that knows how to smell delicious. My hotel, a quaint, ivy-clad building with a romantic balcony, was perfectly situated in the heart of the Old Town. The moment I unpacked my bag and admired my reflection in my portable dressing mirror, it was time to head out! My first destination was, naturally, the magnificent Old Town Square!

This square is a picture perfect medieval square - and I felt just as much a part of the scene as the magnificent buildings around it, twirling and spinning my blush pink tutu amidst the pigeons and tourists. The square is such an explosion of beauty - cobbled streets, colourful buildings, vibrant street musicians, and even the incredible Astronomical Clock, which ticked to life every hour!

And let's not forget the beautiful shops! You know I just had to indulge in some Prague fashion, and I managed to snag a stunning black velvet jacket with delicate silver embellishments. It was perfect for an evening out, don’t you think?

An Evening at the National Theatre, Prague’s Premier Ballet Venue

As dusk began to settle, the cobblestones shimmered under the streetlamps, casting a romantic glow. But tonight's big highlight was just about to begin – ballet! The National Theatre, a dazzling architectural jewel perched on the Vltava River, is renowned for its beauty and the elegance of its productions.

This particular night featured "Giselle," a timeless ballet about a betrayed peasant girl. The costumes were stunning! The female dancers glided across the stage in flowing, delicate white tutus, their graceful movements reflecting a beautiful combination of power and innocence. As for me, I was absolutely captivated by the ballet. It had a magic, an energy, that made me want to dance too!

Riding in Style: A Carriage Ride Through the Heart of Prague

Now, imagine a carriage ride, with me, dressed in my pink tutu, perched atop a carriage drawn by two magnificent horses! Sounds dreamy, right? That's how I spent my Friday afternoon, riding through the enchanting narrow streets of Prague. This is definitely a magical experience that's perfect for any visitor, it gives you a true glimpse of the city’s charm.

And speaking of charm, Prague's cobbled streets were bustling with life. Everywhere I turned there was something beautiful to discover: an old, worn bookstore tucked away in a quiet alleyway, or the window displays of fashion boutiques brimming with chic designs.

Breakfast at the Café in the Castle Grounds

The next morning, I rose with the sun. The view from my hotel balcony was breathtaking – a panoramic sight of red rooftops and glittering church spires, a fairytale come true. My stomach grumbled for breakfast, so I set off to discover a hidden gem - a charming little cafe perched in the sprawling gardens of Prague Castle.

Sipping my coffee and enjoying the local pastries was pure delight. I felt like I was in a timeless, fairy-tale setting - with the warm sun, the gentle breeze rustling through the leaves, and the air filled with the sweet scent of wildflowers.

A Tutu-fied Evening in the Dancing City

That night was all about more dancing and ballet, but this time we’re talking street performance. My inner tutu twirled with excitement as I prepared for my evening at one of Prague's most beautiful street art performances - "Dancing Fountains" in the Letna Park. As I waltzed along, I spotted several beautiful pink tutus in the crowds!

This truly is a magical event. The fountains are lit up in colours, they create breathtaking shapes, and they move and dance to beautiful music! There’s nothing like this anywhere else in the world!

Saying "Na shledanou" to Prague (Until Next Time)

All too soon it was time to say goodbye to the charming city of Prague. I was already daydreaming about my next visit. My luggage was crammed with my Prague finds - a gorgeous pink silk scarf, handmade glass ornaments in the shape of stars and moons, a beautiful wooden ballerina box… Prague has truly become one of my favourite places on Earth. It’s enchanting, romantic and oh-so-elegant - it feels like you've stepped out of a ballet!

So, if you're looking for a romantic escape filled with a touch of fairytale magic, put Prague on your list. Trust me, this enchanting city will have you dancing through the streets with your pink tutu, just like I did!

Pink Tutu Tip:

Did you know that ballet costumes have gone through some radical changes throughout the centuries? Did you know that back in the day, ballet dancers wore big pouffy skirts that actually hid their legs?! My goodness, wouldn't it be funny if a few people here in Prague had brought out some old vintage tutus to twirl with me on Old Town Square? I wonder if I can get that to happen in a few weeks?!

Remember darlings, life's too short for dull outfits! So keep on twirling, keep on dreaming, and never forget the power of a pink tutu! And be sure to catch next week’s blog where I'm exploring the Ballet history of this stunning city!

Stay beautiful! Emma xxx
