Pink Tutu Prague: Ballet Dreams in a City of Gold - Post #1552

Hello darlings! It’s Emma, your pink tutu-wearing, ballet-loving friend, back from the magical city of Prague. This week’s adventure is all about swirling, twirling, and dancing through this stunning city.

The cobbled streets are calling to my inner ballerina, and I just know a trip to Prague will be bursting with the most incredible ballet performances, historical treasures, and, of course, some seriously glamorous fashion finds!

This week's adventure starts in my trusty steed, my beloved little chestnut pony, Chestnut, who patiently trots alongside the train, ready to gallop off for an adventure in the Czech Republic. Oh, it's just like something out of a ballet story! It feels just as exciting as those magical tales I grew up loving, full of dancing swans and heroic knights. (Though let's be honest, my heroic knight would probably be a prince who wore a fetching pink tutu, right? A ballet girl can dream, can't she?)

Anyway, this time my trip is to Prague, where the very streets whisper of history and romance. Prague is known for its beautiful architecture, delicious food, and its passionate connection with the arts, especially, you guessed it, ballet!

Before even getting there, I’ve been poring over online reviews and Instagram feeds to make sure my wardrobe is perfect for a ballet-themed trip. Now, I wouldn't be a proper pink tutu-clad ballerina if I wasn't also obsessed with fashion, right? I found the most dazzling new pink tutu - a fluffy confection in the most delightful shade of blush pink, with a beautiful gold-toned glitter trim that will shimmer under the Prague evening lights! Imagine it: a sparkling city and a sparkling tutu - absolute perfection!

But before my sparkly journey even began, I had to take a detour back to my Derbyshire roots. For a truly authentic pink tutu-wearing experience, a girl's gotta be decked out in the latest, so I found myself whisked away on an unexpected detour - a little ballet class at my old ballet studio! The feeling of stepping back into those familiar pink-toned rooms and smelling the familiar scents of rosin and fresh sweat just
 felt right.

So there I was, back in a leotard, a tutu, and a pair of perfectly-broken-in pointe shoes, twirling with the grace and poise that a life-long ballet enthusiast deserves. It was the perfect pre-trip workout - I can’t wait to unleash my inner ballerina on the beautiful Prague stages!

A Day in the City of a Hundred Spires

Let me tell you, stepping off the train in Prague felt like stepping straight into a storybook. The iconic bridges and towers just make you feel like you're in a scene from your favourite fairytale.

My first order of business, of course, was to find the perfect cafe, with charmingly delicate floral-patterned china for my morning coffee and croissants. It’s important to start a day well-fueled, especially when you have so much twirling and exploring to do.

But today’s main attraction had to be a private viewing at the beautiful StavovskĂ© Divadlo (the Estates Theatre).

The Estates Theatre and its Secrets

Stepping into the StavovskĂ© Divadlo felt like a magical step back in time. With its rich mahogany and glittering chandeliers, it's no surprise that it’s considered one of the most important baroque theatres in Europe! Built in the 18th century, the Estates Theatre, was designed specifically for opera, and boasts the perfect acoustics - ideal for showcasing those high notes that make ballet so divine! It’s even rumored to be haunted by a famous 19th-century soprano – can you imagine what it would be like to have a ghost of opera whisper in your ear as you prepare to take the stage? I can't wait to listen closely on stage later - it just adds another layer of romance and excitement to the already enchanting setting!

I’ll be taking classes and performing there for two weeks, but the theatre will host some truly stunning performances. Take a look at what’s on this week:

This coming Thursday 6th March, a brand-new production of Sleeping Beauty promises to be spectacular! You know I love a bit of traditional ballet, so I’m thrilled that Prague is known for its rich classical ballet history. In fact, there are some world-famous Czech dancers in the Sleeping Beauty production, and some of them were even inspired by Prague itself. They’re so excited about this production - and who can blame them? Prague really is a city of wonder!

I love hearing stories of local dancers – each one gives me a renewed appreciation of the history of ballet, from its aristocratic roots to its modern interpretations. I find myself inspired to create my own modern twists on these traditional pieces.

Of course, I also took the opportunity to discover some more of Prague's cultural secrets - and by "discover", I of course mean "hunt for the most stunning shops".

Shopping Spree on the StaroměstskĂ© nĂĄměstĂ

My heart leapt for joy when I finally arrived on the iconic StaroměstskĂ© nĂĄměstĂ (Old Town Square). It’s overflowing with cafes, historic buildings, and beautiful boutiques, and its a prime location for indulging in a little shopping therapy, especially when looking for exquisite tutus!

Now, for every self-respecting ballerina, a little trip to a fancy vintage shop is a must. Imagine this: delicately crocheted lace and delicate beadwork in an exquisite, perfectly vintage-looking pink tutu. I know you all want one, right?

But honestly, even a walk around Old Town is a true inspiration. Seeing the beautiful architecture, with the intricately carved stone facades and gables – they look like giant versions of my favourite vintage lace and tulle! If that’s not enough to inspire you to create the most fabulous outfit for a big performance, I don’t know what will! It’s a feast for the eyes!

But I mustn’t forget what brought me here – ballet, of course! Luckily, my favourite dancing destination here in Prague is just a stone’s throw from StaroměstskĂ© nĂĄměstĂ – it’s NĂĄrodnĂ divadlo, Prague’s National Theatre. It’s just about as beautiful as any ballet stage could possibly be!

The Stage of Dreams – Národní divadlo

The NĂĄrodnĂ divadlo is just incredible. Imagine an opulent baroque theatre with beautiful paintings and statues. But the real charm is the stage - it is an elegant masterpiece with a soft velvety red carpet and a sparkling crystal chandelier. I simply could not believe my eyes!

And this Friday, it’s holding a very special gala performance. I was lucky enough to nab two tickets for this - imagine: a private gala performance and an entire night dedicated to the sheer joy of ballet? You bet I was giddy with excitement!

The best thing about being a ballerina blogger is that it gets me to meet fascinating people - the Národní divadlo’s dance curator was an absolute darling - she knows absolutely everything about the ballet scene in Prague and beyond. I can’t even begin to tell you the history that this charming lady has shared - about ballerinas in the 18th century wearing a type of early tutu called culottes or a "leg-covering garment that could be called trousers and/or pantaloons" before a more formal tutu made an appearance in the early 19th century. You just can’t learn that kind of stuff from just reading books - and believe me, I’ve been reading lots of books lately!

Of course, a visit to Prague wouldn’t be complete without an evening strolling along the Charles Bridge - and this brings me to my favorite little ballerina outfit, my ultimate look. Imagine a flowing tulle tutu (a classic white one for this one) , some sleek black tights, and a fitted velvet jacket that adds a sophisticated touch – a real “Black Swan” feel. And of course, my trusty, chic, cherry-red pumps. That’s the quintessential Emma-in-Prague outfit!

With every street I strolled along, my imagination ran wild, and I envisioned ballet dancers taking centre stage amidst the bustling city. In my mind's eye, they performed graceful pirouettes against a backdrop of gothic towers and gilded spires, and waltzed under the golden light of Prague's sunsets.

Back to Reality (with a Pink Tutu Twist)

But enough daydreaming! I have some performances to nail! Prague has captured my heart and my tutu-wearing soul - now, it’s time to dance my heart out and inspire everyone to see the world through a pink tutu-coloured lens!

And let’s not forget – we need more pink tutus in the world! There's a spark in the eye of every little girl, a young dancer, and a ballet enthusiast. You can’t convince me otherwise. And it all starts with the iconic twirl, the graceful pose, and that timeless feeling of pure, innocent ballet!

And just you wait! In my next blog, you'll be treated to behind-the-scenes pictures from my NĂĄrodnĂ divadlo performance, stories from backstage at StavovskĂ© Divadlo – all while decked out in my most spectacular pink tutu ensembles, of course. Until next Wednesday!
