Prague: A Pink Tutu Wonderland (Blog Post #1553)

Bonjour mes chĆ©ries! It's Emma here, and guess what? I'm in Prague! The cobbled streets, the fairytale architecture, the decadent pastries ā€“ Prague is just bursting with romance, history andā€¦ you guessed itā€¦ pink! I just knew this city would be tutu-tastic and I wasn't wrong. It's just screaming for a little pink tutu magic!

But before we delve into the dreamy depths of Prague's pink potential, let's talk about my journey here. You know how much I adore a train journey? Well, this one was extra special. Not only did I snag a window seat, which is always my favourite, I actually got to ride part of the way in a vintage carriage pulled by a majestic horse. Think: carriage ride through a storybook fairytale forest ā€“ truly the stuff dreams are made of!

The Prague Ballet - A Masterclass in Elegance

So, why Prague? Well, Iā€™m here for the ballet, darling. The National Theatre in Prague has a truly world-class company and I just couldnā€™t resist seeing a show. I heard itā€™s going to be one of their signature productions - ā€œSwan Lakeā€! Oh, the elegance, the romance, the dramaā€¦ I just canā€™t wait! Did you know the iconic "swan lake" tutus were a revolution when they were designed for the 1895 premiere? A white swan tutu?! Revolutionary, darlings, utterly revolutionary! Just as I was once with my pink tutu designs!

Speaking of designsā€¦ Iā€™ve been absolutely smitten with the amazing outfits the Prague ballet dancers are sporting. Iā€™m talking exquisite costumes ā€“ think dazzling crystals, shimmering silks, and absolutely beautiful pastel pink details. (It's a good thing, I brought my camera!) I was quite impressed that these incredible designs are all produced in-house, right here at the National Theatre. How incredibly stylish, not to mention incredibly cost effective. Thatā€™s something I really need to try when I get back to Derbyshireā€¦

A Parisian Touch with a Prague Twist

You all know my love for Parisian fashionā€¦ But I have to say, Pragueā€™s style is giving it a good run for its money. Thereā€™s something about the juxtaposition of the traditional, the whimsical, and the sleekly modern here in Prague. It just feels oh so European, it's almost impossible to leave the boutiques without purchasing at least one amazing vintage find or a stunning, unique piece from a local artisan.

Speaking of finding stunning clothes, the old town square was a delight! Just like in Vienna, Prague boasts some absolutely gorgeous architecture. I spent the entire morning wandering the streets, soaking in the stunning beauty, and of course, peeking into every vintage boutique in sight! Every corner here is just a photo opportunity waiting to happen! And of course, with every picture, there is always the obligatory pink tutu poses. You've got to keep that message out there: wear a pink tutu and take on the world, darlings!

Tutu Treats for the Tutu Lovers

Prague is a feast for the senses! Iā€™ve had the pleasure of indulging in some incredibly delicious traditional Czech food ā€“ imagine fluffy dumplings with decadent sauces, roast pork, creamy mushroom soup - I was completely overwhelmed. And, to top it off, I discovered a charming little patisserie just a stone's throw from my hotel. Oh, it was a wonderland of fluffy pastries, pastel coloursā€¦ and even a pink, rose-shaped Ć©clair just begging to be captured in my camera! (Of course, I was already dreaming up a pink tutu Ć©clair recipe to post next week). This was clearly a must-try and, as expected, every bit as delicious as it looked.

Planning your Prague Ballet Trip - My Tips

And now, some inside information! Because I just know you're already itching to book a trip after reading this. So, here are my insider tips for planning your perfect Prague ballet trip.

  • Accommodation: For me, nothing beats a good hotel, but Prague also boasts plenty of delightful B&Bs and guesthouses, even some really quirky hostels. Choose one that fits your vibe, darling, and don't be afraid to embrace the whimsical side of Prague.
  • Book ahead: Remember to book your ballet tickets in advance ā€“ the National Theatre is always incredibly popular and itā€™s important to be sure of your seat, especially for shows like "Swan Lake" . Trust me on that.
  • Shopping: My recommendation? Ditch the chain stores and immerse yourself in the independent boutiques, charming vintage shops and hidden antique markets that make Prague such a unique and fashionable place. And make sure you visit the local ateliers and design houses too! They offer unique items, like hand-crafted jewels and artisanal clothing andā€¦wellā€¦ you never know what you might find to wear with your pink tutu, darlings!
  • Embrace the culture: From medieval castles and grand palaces to vibrant markets and buzzing squares, Prague offers an incredible immersion into its rich history and culture. So, wear a comfortable pair of walking shoes, and take your time to truly experience this magical city.

    Until next time, darlings

I hope youā€™ve enjoyed my journey to Prague so far! Don't forget, check back next Wednesday for my adventures at the ballet performance of "Swan Lake", and the grand Pink Tutu Ball I am throwing in celebration of all things tutu-licious in Prague.
