Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-wearing travel blogger, Emma, back from a whirlwind week in Prague, the city of a hundred spires! This week, I'm swapping the Derbyshire Dales for the charming cobbled streets of Prague and the vibrant energy of its ballet scene. It's my 1584th blog post and as usual, you know it's going to be a pink-tastic adventure! 💖
I'm living my best ballet-filled life, funded entirely by the magic of performance! I've just had the most incredible week, performing for a charity gala at the beautiful National Theatre. They were so impressed with my rendition of 'The Dying Swan' in a gloriously flamboyant pink tutu that I received a standing ovation and enough donations to get me all the way to Prague! And wouldn't you know it, Prague happens to be the home of the National Theatre Ballet - what a coincidence, eh? 😉
Getting there - A Train and Pony Tale
To get here, I took the train from Derbyshire, naturally, because let's be honest, who doesn't love the romance of train travel? It felt like a fairytale ride straight out of my tutu dreams. Imagine: lush green countryside zipping past my window, a warm cuppa in hand, and my soft pink cashmere travel blanket wrapped around me. Pure bliss!
Now, Prague's not exactly next door, so I had a slight change of pace upon arrival! The last bit of the journey was a little unusual, I must admit. It involved a little pony ride through the enchanting Czech countryside. Talk about a truly magical experience. Think "The Sound of Music", but with me in a pink tutu, not Julie Andrews. 🎶 It was the perfect introduction to the enchanting fairy tale atmosphere of this beautiful city!
Tutu-filled Prague: Ballet, Shopping, and a Feast for the Senses
Prague, darling, has captured my heart with its historic charm, its dazzling array of shops, and its flourishing ballet scene. I'm absolutely obsessed with the historic buildings - think stunning baroque churches with exquisite details and breathtaking views from their towers! But Prague is so much more than just ancient architecture. This city vibrates with life, bursting with colour, culture, and oh, so much good shopping!
Speaking of colour, let's talk about tutus! The National Theatre Ballet has this gorgeous selection of costumes and, I can't tell you how many pink tutus I've spotted. It's truly a tutu-lovers dream come true! I spent hours poring over the designs, learning all about their history and their meaning. Did you know that the first tutus weren't pink? They were white, long and full, with no intention of twirling or showing off legs! They didn't get their pink makeover, shorter hems, and dance-ability until the mid-19th century! Imagine - imagine a world without the pink tutu. I just can't. 🙅♀️
Speaking of which, Prague is where I found this incredible little boutique - a vintage tutu haven! This little treasure trove tucked away on a cobblestone street was filled with tutus in every shade imaginable, but of course, the pink ones caught my eye. You know I had to buy one, right? I couldn't resist the charm of its soft tulle and the vintage embroidery details. Now, every morning in Prague, I've been waking up, slipping into this magnificent tutu, and dancing around my charming little hotel room, overlooking the iconic Charles Bridge. It's a good life, darling, a good life indeed! 😉
A Dance with History: Prague's National Theatre Ballet
Okay, I know you all are waiting to hear about the National Theatre Ballet. I was lucky enough to score tickets for tonight's performance! And trust me, darling, you can't imagine a better way to spend an evening! They are doing La Sylphide – a ballet that celebrating romance, lightness, and, yes you guessed it, tutus! 🩰 You know I have a soft spot for anything about fairy tales and mythical creatures, and this story is all about love, sacrifice, and an enchanting woodland sylph who needs protecting! The performance is going to be magical.
You simply must add seeing a performance by the National Theatre Ballet to your Prague itinerary if you're coming here! Just look up their schedule online - their shows run all year round. You can even take ballet lessons at their beautiful studio - that's on my list for next week. Imagine twirling around Prague, in my tutu, with these incredibly talented dancers, sharing their passion for the art form. Now that’s an amazing life!
Food for Thought: Sweet and Savoury Treats
When you're in Prague, be sure to indulge in all the wonderful Czech cuisine. Prague is home to some of the most divine dumplings I've ever had! (Of course, with my pink tutu, but that’s a given). The rich, earthy flavours of their traditional dishes, coupled with the hearty comfort of their comforting breads and pastries – they really get me feeling those fairytale vibes! But here’s a secret from Emma: * Prague isn't just about hearty traditional cuisine.* It also boasts some incredible fine dining restaurants. We’re talking delectable flavours, meticulously crafted dishes, and breathtaking views. There’s one Michelin-starred restaurant I'm planning to check out – maybe even in a pink tutu if the chef approves. 😉
Let's talk sweet treats! Oh my goodness! There's nothing more delectable than a walk through Old Town Square and coming across a charming little bakery filled with pastel coloured cakes and treats! And those traditional trdelnik - you must try them. Imagine freshly baked dough with a sugary cinnamon-coated finish – it's basically love at first bite.
