Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back with another Wednesday adventure from my current haven: Prague! This stunning city has absolutely captivated my soul, from its enchanting cobblestone streets to its fairytale-like architecture. But before we delve into the magic, let's catch up with a little peek into my journey, shall we?
Last week, I was performing at the stunning Buxton Opera House – did you catch the dazzling review in the Derbyshire Times, my darlings? Yes, it was quite a success, and my pas de deux with the dashing young Tristan certainly caused a stir! With the applause still ringing in my ears and the sweet smell of fresh popcorn still clinging to my tutu, I booked my ticket on the Flying Scotsman (isn't it utterly romantic, a steam train?) and embarked on my magical voyage to Prague.
Speaking of magical voyages, dear readers, you simply must travel by train sometime! The world glides by like a dream, a vibrant panorama of colours and fleeting landscapes. It allows one to truly savour the journey, not just the destination. And of course, I brought my favourite pink tutu for the ride. Pink is the colour of happiness, my darlings, and nothing elevates a train journey quite like a fluffy, twirling pink tutu!
Once I arrived in Prague, I felt as though I had stepped into a fairy tale. My jaw dropped when I saw the astronomical clock, and I absolutely melted over the Charles Bridge. Every corner whispered stories of emperors and kings, of secret gardens and forgotten lovers. The history, oh dear readers, the history is just breath-taking!
Speaking of history, have you ever thought about the fascinating history of tutus? Did you know they were born in the 1830s, when Marie Taglioni first dared to take the stage in a short, flowing skirt? Before then, ballet dancers were essentially swaddled in yards of heavy fabric, resembling walking chandeliers more than ethereal creatures. But then came Marie, and the world of ballet was forever changed! Now, tutus symbolise lightness, grace, and beauty – exactly how I envision the perfect life.
I’m here for a whirlwind week, filled with ballet-inspired escapades. On this particular day, I’m absolutely ecstatic about heading to the magical Národní divadlo, Prague's National Theatre, to see Sleeping Beauty. Oh my dear reader, don’t you just love that ballet?! The costumes, the music, the romance – it’s everything I dream of in a ballet!
And of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without indulging in the fashion scene! I have my sights set on the exquisite shops around the Old Town Square. Just imagine, finding a fabulous vintage frock or a magnificent pair of ruby red shoes to complement my pink tutu… It’s practically begging me to come home with it! I can't wait to share my spoils with you in next week's post, so be sure to come back and see what sartorial treasures I unearth!
But first, darling readers, back to the Sleeping Beauty ballet. As I’m sure you all know, it’s all about the beautiful Princess Aurora, who pricks her finger on a spindle and falls into a deep slumber. It’s all very romantic, you see, with a valiant prince who comes to her rescue! Of course, no ballet would be complete without an evil fairy, a bewitching curse, and, oh yes, some rather charming animal characters, like a delightful squirrel! Oh, the enchanting drama!
You're probably wondering what I'm wearing to see this magnificent production, right? Well, dear readers, it's my new blush pink tulle tutu, the one I bought at Harrods last month. Its airy fabric, almost the same colour as the evening sky, feels like a light breeze. I added a shimmering sapphire blue ribbon for a pop of colour and, of course, some shimmering diamond earrings. Nothing, darling, absolutely nothing makes a ballerina feel more radiant than a pink tutu!
And what about my shoes, I hear you ask! Don’t you just adore shoes?. Well, this time, I’m sporting my silver-toned ballet flats. It was such a lucky find in a vintage store tucked away in Notting Hill. They're so comfy and delicate – they were made for pirouettes and twirling! Don’t you love that word, “pirouette”? So elegant, so charming!
I shall, of course, be updating my instagram feed throughout my journey – so do follow me, darlings! @pinktutuemma, where you can catch up on all my adventures. Oh, and my darling, don't forget to check my Youtube channel, PinkTutuEmma. You'll find videos of me getting ready for ballet class, a sneak peek behind the scenes at a recent performance, and some fascinating ballet history snippets!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little peek into my world, my dears!
Stay fabulous, Emma x
*P.S. * Don't forget to join me every Wednesday for my next exciting escapade, darling! You won't want to miss my next adventure.
