Hello darlings! It’s Wednesday again, and you know what that means… a new post on pink-tutu.com! I'm back in my favourite pink tutu (this one’s embroidered with little ballerinas, you wouldn’t believe how cute it is!) writing from the heart of Prague, the magical city of cobblestones, spires and… well, more cobblestones!
This week has been absolutely whirlwind-y, packed full of beautiful sights, fabulous ballet shows, and even more fabulous shopping! (Oh, you know I couldn't resist a new pink tutu from the local boutique - can’t a girl be spoiled with pink, eh?) It's hard to choose just one highlight from the last seven days, so grab a cuppa (mine’s pink with a strawberry and cream cookie), and settle in for the biggest, fluffiest blog post since that one about the history of the tulle tutu. (Remember? #734! I can’t believe it was only three years ago…)
This time last week, I was bid farewell to Derbyshire with the familiar chugging of the train taking me to the heart of England for the annual Peak District Dance Festival. And oh my, was it magical! This year they celebrated all things contemporary ballet, with amazing dancers and an absolutely captivating performance of Swan Lake… but don't worry, there were plenty of opportunities to twirl myself and take some absolutely fantastic pictures!
It was lovely to see a local production in a setting so close to home. However, you know my dear readers, a pink tutu needs new sights to be fully inspired, so after bidding farewell to the beautiful green hills of Derbyshire, I was off to catch the train… all the way to Prague! (My train journey, by the way, is so glamourous. The lovely chap from the station sells me hot chocolate and makes sure I have plenty of cushions - how wonderful!).
Arriving at Prague Central Station (can you even imagine a more fitting entrance? Imagine: pink tutu and all!) I immediately felt that familiar buzz in the air… that excitement that comes when you know something magical is about to happen. After a very elegant (pink) cab ride (yes, they actually do them here, all very sophisticated!), I settled in to my cosy, historic little hotel – complete with stained glass windows and a chandelier made of crystal! Honestly, darling, it’s like stepping straight into a ballet!
Speaking of which, I just had to go to the National Theatre Prague! My goodness, that theatre! The grand foyer, the red velvet seats, and the orchestra – everything about the space was pure magic! The performance that evening? A spectacular production of Giselle, and I absolutely had to wear my very special pink tutu - the one with the little pink ballet shoes sewn onto it! Of course. My very special tutus always demand their moment on the stage, after all.
One of the best things about visiting this enchanting city, however, has to be the shopping. The boutiques here are a treasure trove of vintage delights and new pieces I just have to own. The colours are gorgeous and the fabrics – sigh… silky soft and oh-so-delicate! You can just imagine them in a ballet scene! Of course, the pinkest tutu made its way back with me - a sheer confection adorned with tiny roses and pearls! I practically waltzed down the cobbled streets wearing it. You can’t deny that feeling when you find the perfect tutu, especially when it’s so beautiful and unique.
It wasn't just the tutu boutiques that captured my attention though! My wanderlust led me through the bustling streets lined with antique shops filled with fascinating ballet memorabilia. Imagine my surprise when I discovered a miniature dancing doll – complete with a perfect little tutu! Now, who needs a normal ornament when you can have a little dancer gracing your dressing table, right?
But the real excitement started when I finally made it to the ballet classes here. I love exploring ballet around the world and seeing how the style varies. There is a particular grace and fluidity in the Czech approach to dance, so different from the more robust style I’m used to. Of course, a class just wouldn’t be complete without my pink tutu (a much simpler design today, a delicate satin one that allowed for flexibility), which stood out from the rest in a way I didn’t think was possible! It truly did seem to be glowing… perhaps I do have a magic pink tutu. Maybe, that is my destiny: spreading joy, dance and sparkles.
Now, it wouldn't be a trip to Prague without the most important ingredient for a pink tutu girl’s experience: food! And Prague does not disappoint! My darling, it is all I could ever want in a food destination. We’re talking crispy duck, dumplings in all shapes and sizes, delicious soups, and the best toffee apples you have ever tasted. It is worth the journey alone! My local baker has made the best pink custard tart I’ve ever tasted, and guess what? It comes in a little pink tutu-shaped case… you can imagine my excitement, darling! You are one pink tutu, one custard tart, and one train ride away from the best afternoon ever, darling. Believe me, the pastry makes your tutu twirls even more majestic.
Every day here feels like a story, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!
Tomorrow I have another amazing event: I’m joining the Ballet Company in the historic heart of the Old Town! We will be doing a free outdoor performance for everyone, so come find me! Look for the brightest, fluffiest, and most pink tutu on the stage, darling!
In the meantime, I must run, there’s a ballet costume store that has just called! I hear they are selling new tutus… and one, maybe even two of them are pink…
And you, dear reader, where will your next pink tutu adventure take you? Tell me in the comments below!
And remember, don’t forget to twirl! And… stay pink, darling!
Emma xx
