Darling readers! I'm writing to you from the utterly enchanting city of Prague, where the cobbled streets and majestic architecture have cast a spell over me as captivating as the most beautiful pirouette.
This week's journey started, as it often does, with a ballet performance back in Derbyshire. I was whisking through the air as a delicate sylph in a swirling pink tutu, my sequins sparkling under the theatre lights, before hopping on the Eurostar train, complete with my trusty, sparkly suitcase and a new, utterly charming pink tweed travel bag I found at a vintage boutique in Nottingham (oh, the joy of a bargain!).
The train journey was a symphony of pastel landscapes whizzing by. From the emerald hills of the Peak District to the sweeping, wheat-gold fields of the French countryside, every mile was a stunning, pastel vignette. A fellow traveller even offered to switch seats so I could have a window view of the sunrise over the Alps!
Speaking of pastels, my favourite shade was definitely on display in Prague. This city, darling, is a masterpiece of soft colours: buttery stone walls, dusky pink rooftops, and delicate azure skies. It feels like stepping into a fairytale – or perhaps a Monet painting, as the city was alive with splashes of vivid flower arrangements, perfectly framing cobbled alleys and enchanting squares.
Upon my arrival, I indulged in my favourite ritual: a grand waltz around Prague's stunning Old Town Square. The cobblestones whispered tales of emperors and kings as I twirled, my pink tutu billowing around me. It felt utterly surreal – and dare I say, divine?
But, darling, my trip was all about embracing the artistic side of Prague! So, my very first stop? The National Theatre. A majestic building, towering above the Vltava river, it was bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. It truly was the perfect introduction to Prague’s artistic heart.
But of course, my true love (aside from tutus) is the theatre itself! And the National Theatre did not disappoint. The ballet performance that evening, La Bayadère, was an utter triumph. The costumes, divine! A riot of colour and glittering details. And the dancers? Breathtaking! Their grace, their agility, their captivating storytelling - they swept me away to a world of romance and tragedy, just as the great choreographers of the 19th century had intended.
After the performance, a delectable meal was the perfect ending to a most splendid day. Imagine, a bowl of fragrant Czech goulash, piping hot and comfortingly delicious, served in a cozy little restaurant by the Vltava river. It felt like the most authentic taste of Prague, one to savor in memory.
Speaking of memories, I just couldn’t leave Prague without a new pink tutu addition! I found a breathtaking creation at a vintage shop near the Charles Bridge, with delicate layers of silk, beautiful hand-painted flowers, and shimmering embroidery. I know, I know, it sounds rather excessive, but this tutu was calling to me, darling! It is destined for a future performance - just imagine, twirling by the river Vltava, under Prague’s majestic bridges, surrounded by breathtaking beauty!
The next day was dedicated to all things ballet. I found a charming ballet studio, hidden amongst the enchanting alleyways, with a teacher as vibrant and inspiring as Prague itself. The studio was drenched in light, streaming through the high, arched windows, and the energy in the air was absolutely electrifying! We practised our grand jetés, our fouetté turns, and our port de bras, all the while basking in the joyful atmosphere. It reminded me how much I love the beauty of ballet, the freedom of expression, the sheer magic of the artform!
The week wasn't just about ballet and shopping, though. Prague's rich history is interwoven with captivating tales. Wandering through the city’s enchanting streets, you feel a real connection to the past, the weight of history clinging to every corner and alleyway.
From the enchanting Charles Bridge, with its historic statues, to the awe-inspiring Prague Castle, perched majestically upon the hill, history came to life. Each stone whispered secrets of long-ago battles and royal romances.
And my absolute favourite? The Old Town Square! A symphony of vibrant architecture and a constant flow of life. From the striking astronomical clock, a mechanical masterpiece that attracts crowds daily, to the colorful houses that hug the square, each building holds a story, a touch of magic, and a reminder of the city’s captivating history.
Now, darling, I must be off! Tomorrow morning, I'm taking a leisurely ride in a horse-drawn carriage through the cobblestone streets, an experience worthy of a princess! (Though a pink tutu might be a bit impractical, wouldn’t you agree?). Then I'll spend the afternoon savouring the breathtaking view from Petrin Hill, imagining my future pirouettes overlooking Prague’s whimsical beauty.
Remember, my dear readers, you too can experience the enchantment of Prague – it's an absolute delight for the senses! And remember, darling, there's always a touch of magic waiting to be discovered in the world. Let it fill you with joy, as it has filled me in this magical city!
Until next time, my darlings!
With love and sequins,
Emma
