Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing ballerina, back with another post, this time straight from the enchanting city of Prague! As you know, Wednesday's are for #PinkTutuPrague, and I'm thrilled to share all the whimsical details of my adventures here, which just so happen to coincide with the opening night of the Czech National Ballet’s production of La Sylphide at the magnificent National Theatre.
Speaking of magnificent, you simply have to experience Prague. It’s as though a fairytale sprung to life, with cobblestone streets winding their way past enchanting old buildings, golden spires piercing the sky, and a captivating history that breathes in every corner. It’s simply magical.
And the very first thing I had to do, after settling into my cute little hotel room (with the best pink-hued lampshades!) was hop on a pony and ride around the charming Old Town Square! Yes, ponies! You wouldn’t believe it but Prague has these delightful horse-drawn carriages you can take around, giving you the most wonderful perspective of the city.
The ride was positively idyllic, a mix of fairy tales and fashion, especially when I whipped out my very own custom pink tutu - a fabulous, swirling tulle dream, adorned with hand-painted Prague-themed designs: tiny, shimmering golden clock towers and miniature replicas of the Charles Bridge! Needless to say, heads turned! Honestly, I do have to ask, why don't more people wear pink tutus? It's such a statement! It screams: "Look at me! I’m embracing life and celebrating femininity!"
After my magical pony adventure, I embarked on an afternoon of delightful discovery. Did you know Prague has the most incredible Tutu Museum? Tucked away on a charming, quiet cobblestone street, this gem houses a treasure trove of tutus, showcasing the history of this exquisite garment, from its 19th century origins to the breathtaking, modern designs of today.
The collection is absolutely spectacular! My absolute favourite? A truly magnificent pink tutu - the shade was divine, and the detailing - delicate feathers, glittering crystals, a perfectly executed spiral of tulle - it took my breath away! This museum truly captured the beauty and evolution of the tutu, and its timeless charm.
Of course, no Prague escapade is complete without indulging in a bit of shopping - a girl’s gotta fuel those creative ambitions, right? And Prague truly delivers when it comes to fashion. From vintage boutiques tucked into alleyways, brimming with vintage dresses and exquisite antique accessories, to designer boutiques on the opulent streets of the city centre, there’s truly a shop for everyone.
My favourite discovery was a hidden treasure tucked into a courtyard, a little vintage dress shop filled with the most magnificent treasures, including the perfect velvet evening coat in the most luscious shade of dusty rose! And the highlight? An exquisite antique tutu - a 1950s dream of delicate layers of cream tulle, beautifully adorned with pearls. Oh my goodness, I’ve never seen such exquisite craftsmanship!
But Prague isn't all tutus and fashion, though I did manage to find a fabulous boutique selling the most fabulous pink tulle headbands! My wardrobe needed a serious upgrade! After all, what’s a pink tutu-wearing ballerina without the perfect accessory, right?
The day concluded with a sensational dinner at a restaurant called the "Old Bohemian Tavern." I swear, every place I go, the food just seems to magically elevate into the realm of culinary enchantment! I had the most delightful rabbit ragout with rosemary dumplings, washed down with a delightful local cherry wine, served in a stunning, crystal goblet!
Of course, before retiring for the night, a trip to the charming bookstore was absolutely necessary. I am such a sucker for unique paperbacks. I stumbled upon a gem in an ancient-looking store tucked away in an alley: a leatherbound first edition of the ballet ‘La Sylphide’ in Czech, which of course, I snatched up immediately. What’s a ballerina to do without a bit of ballet history, right?
Oh, and before I forget, did I mention the absolutely enchanting ballets that Prague has to offer? You guys, this city is truly a ballerinas dream! I mean, just imagine this, graceful swans gliding across the stage in the National Theatre, the orchestra playing Tchaikovsky’s sublime music, and I, seated in my front-row seat, wearing the most incredible pink tutu, ready to embrace the magic!
And that’s just what I did today, with the most amazing show I have ever witnessed, the Czech National Ballet's production of La Sylphide, a magical journey through music and dance that left me breathless! The dancers were absolute dreamlike creatures, so delicate and precise, the story enchanting, and the scenery absolutely spectacular! Honestly, it was just... perfect. The story of a young woman named Effie, yearning for freedom and love, swept away by a mystical, seductive spirit… truly mesmerising.
And after the ballet, I indulged in the most divine treat I've found thus far in Prague - the most delicious, fragrant, heavenly slice of Czech cheesecake. Imagine this - light and fluffy with a creamy vanilla flavour, a crunchy base of buttery crumble, and a gentle kiss of strawberry glaze. Divine.
Tomorrow is a day dedicated to further exploration of this magical city, from the Charles Bridge, the magnificent Old Town Square with its astronomical clock, the Prague Castle, and countless other beautiful treasures waiting to be discovered. I have a feeling this will be a day packed with even more adventures, and perhaps, more stunning tutu discoveries!
I promise to share all the details, right here on Pink Tutu Prague! Don’t forget, Wednesday’s are for tutus and magical adventures!
With the greatest affection,
Emma xx
