Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your resident Pink Tutu girl, reporting live from the enchanting city of Prague.
Oh my, this place is truly magical! It's like stepping into a fairytale, complete with cobbled streets, stunning architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene. Just perfect for a ballerina on a mission to spread the joy of tutus across the globe.
A Whirlwind Journey
My journey to Prague was just as fabulous as you might expect. A long and scenic train journey through the heart of Europe, and to top it all off, I was treated to a whimsical ride on a gorgeous little pony through the picturesque countryside. It was like something straight out of a childhood dream, especially with me in my trusty pink tutu, of course! You wouldn't believe the amount of smiles and compliments I got – clearly, pink tutus are universally appreciated!
Finding My Tutus in Prague
You know I can't go anywhere without hunting down the most exquisite tutu creations, right? So, once I arrived in Prague, I immediately headed to the heart of the city, where I knew I'd find treasures for my tutu collection. I spent hours browsing boutiques and vintage shops, and you wouldn't believe the finds I uncovered. There was a stunningly delicate pink tulle skirt, with delicate hand-stitched lace detailing - utterly divine!
But Prague, being the gem it is, isn't all about finding beautiful clothing. There are incredible vintage and antiques shops here, filled with treasures like a little, 1920s, pearl-encrusted ballerina doll and a 19th-century sketch of a ballerina wearing a tutu that is just unbelievably inspiring. I mean, this place just makes your tutu-loving heart sing, wouldn't you agree?
The National Theatre Ballet
Oh darling, this is why I truly came to Prague! The National Theatre is absolutely breathtaking! I just had to witness the grandeur of this historical building and, of course, watch a performance by the world-renowned ballet company. On Friday night, the performance I saw was utterly magical. It was a breathtaking ballet, so full of emotion, precision, and of course, fabulous tutus!
And talking about the National Theatre ballet... have you heard of their incredible repertoire? I mean, their "Swan Lake" is so exquisite! The dancers move like swans gliding across a lake - the whole performance was pure artistry. I’m definitely thinking of attending a second performance before I leave!
Ballet and TutUs, Through the Ages
It’s amazing what you discover when you delve into history! I stumbled across the Prague Dance Centre, where I spent the afternoon completely engrossed in the fascinating history of ballet in Prague. Did you know they've been putting on ballet performances here for centuries? Their history is deeply intertwined with the city's evolution, and they were really some of the first to really introduce ballet to wider audiences - inspiring people from all walks of life.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw the early designs of the tutu. Can you imagine? These ballerinas back then wore layers of elaborate petticoats and heavy, often cumbersome fabric – quite different from the beautiful flowing and delicate tulle designs we wear today. I was even lucky enough to try on a vintage ballet slipper! Oh my goodness, it was a fascinating look into how ballerinas worked before. Imagine being the first ballerinas in those very heavy and restricted outfits - their agility and determination was truly incredible.
Prague’s Bohemian Soul
Now, I just love this about Prague - it has such a Bohemian soul. There’s something in the air that is just pure magic and the streets are buzzing with creatives and artists from all corners of the globe. You find this unique mix of modern and traditional everywhere you look and I even found an incredible art collective which are designing amazing, very futuristic tutu designs that I will be featuring in next week’s post!
Shopping till you drop - But making it pink and fabulous
You wouldn’t believe the fabulous little shops here! You just never know what you’re going to find, and the vibe here in Prague is very "find your style" rather than just "copy the crowd." And my lovelies, when you have a gorgeous vintage market overflowing with unique pieces and independent boutiques featuring exciting new designers, it can be hard to resist - especially with my "all things pink" mantra! But how could I resist a gorgeous, shimmering, vintage hat in pale pink with an amazing blush pink feather? I’ve got to wear it to a performance later!
Of course, I found myself popping into an absolutely fabulous, independent shoe shop - full of gorgeous leather and handmade boots. This is where I found the perfect boots for dancing - oh they’re going to be fabulous on stage and look stunningly stylish with a pink tutu!
What’s on tonight
And what's happening today? This evening, we're off to see an exciting outdoor ballet performance right on the Old Town Square. They're doing a wonderful rendition of “Coppelia," one of my favourite ballets. It’s an enchanting ballet - with such a wonderful love story and, of course, those breathtaking tutus! I simply cannot wait for tonight! It’s going to be spectacular, with the Old Town Square serving as our outdoor stage – what more could a ballet enthusiast ask for? And you can bet your bottom dollar that my pink tutu will be out in full force!
Until next week…
Oh, my darlings, I’ve got so many more magical Prague adventures to share. Come back next Wednesday for another blog update from your resident pink tutu queen.
