Hello, my darling tutus! Emma here, bringing you the latest installment from my Prague adventures - Post 1704, a whirlwind week of pink-tinted escapades. I've been dancing through the cobbled streets of this enchanting city, twirling my way into its historic heart. Let me tell you, Prague is a real dream for a ballerina like myself, brimming with breathtaking architecture, charming cafes, and of course, incredible ballet performances!
Train-ing for Prague! The journey here was a fairytale in itself! I hopped on a train from Derbyshire - my dear old hometown - and the familiar clackety-clack of the wheels had me humming along to Tchaikovsky before I knew it. Oh, how I adore a train journey, a chance to lose myself in a good book (this week it was "The Story of Ballet", the perfect holiday companion!) and daydream about the adventures to come. I think the train really adds to the magic, transporting you to another world.
Arriving in a City of EnchantmentPrague unfolded like a fairytale as I arrived at the station. The city just seems to glitter, the spires piercing the sky like the crown of a princess. You know how I love all things pretty and pink - Prague certainly ticks all the boxes with its soft pastel buildings, quaint bridges, and lush gardens. It was love at first sight, darling!
Finding my Tutu NirvanaThis week's ballet adventure was at the National Theatre - a magnificent building steeped in history and buzzing with excitement. It felt like a fairytale - the shimmering chandeliers, the velvet seats, and the anticipation in the air - oh, the magic! I donned my prettiest pink tutu for the occasion, naturally, because why not twirl in style? I was feeling truly fabulous!
The show itself was an absolute delight - a contemporary ballet piece by Czech choreographer, Janek Slováček, set to a stunning soundtrack of contemporary classical music. It was bold, emotive, and captivating - just the way I like my ballet!
Shopping for a Pink-Tastic TimeNo trip to Prague would be complete without indulging in some serious shopping! Oh, darling, the city is a haven for all things chic and elegant. I'm positively smitten with the boutique boutiques tucked away in charming alleyways - I'm talking silks, satins, and gorgeous vintage dresses galore. I've been eyeing up a divine lilac number for my next performance, but that's a secret for now! ?
Naturally, I made a pilgrimage to The Prague Ballet Shop, where I found a new tutu that practically danced its way into my wardrobe - a pale pink beauty adorned with delicate beading. I knew immediately it would make the perfect costume for my next performance - a Parisian street show planned for the weekend. Imagine - me, dancing in the heart of Prague, twirling my way through the charming streets. Who wouldn't love that?
Tutu History: A Parisian RomanceSpeaking of Parisian streets, my mind immediately goes to the glamorous dancers who graced the stages of Paris in the 19th century. Did you know, darlings, the tutu actually wasn't originally designed for ballet at all? It was a stage costume for a burlesque show, with the earliest tutus being made from the white layers of underwear of the day! It wasn't until Marie Taglioni, a famous ballerina in the 1800s, embraced the light, flowing silhouette and started incorporating it into ballet that the tutu became a symbol of grace and elegance, the icon of ballet we know and love today. How wonderful it is to see how fashion can be so impactful!
The Power of PinkOf course, nothing beats the excitement of watching ballet performed in grand theatres - there's an incredible atmosphere in these venues, an almost magical aura. But I absolutely love the vibrant energy of a street performance too - a more playful and impromptu vibe, and the way the dancers engage directly with the public. I find the whole experience so uplifting and inspiring! That's why I love my Parisian street performance shows!
But whether I'm gracing the stage or dancing through a charming Prague alleyway, the colour of the moment will always be pink - that iconic colour that just radiates joy and femininity. Remember, darlings, pink is not just a colour, it's a state of mind! I'm on a mission to get the world twirling in pink tutus - because if we can’t be playful, fabulous and express ourselves, then what’s the point?
So here’s to you, darling tutus. You are fabulous, unique and you never stop shining!
Until next time,
Your pink-loving Emma ?
