This week, I'm waltzing straight into the heart of Prague, a city that's utterly enchanting. It's my first time visiting, and the magic has already started. And guess what? The National Theatre, home to some of Prague's most spectacular ballet performances, is on my itinerary for today, so strap on your sparkly ballet shoes, darlings, we're going to twirl our way through history, fashion, and all things ballet!
Now, let's get the most important detail out of the way: Prague is positively swirling with historical beauty. Just wandering through the Old Town Square is a storybook adventure in itself, and I've been utterly captivated by the charm of the architecture, cobbled streets, and medieval churches. Prague Castle, with its stunning gothic cathedral and a million winding pathways, feels straight out of a fairytale, and I spent a happy hour exploring its ramparts, trying to picture the history unfolding all around me.
Speaking of history, you can't talk about Prague without mentioning the astronomical clock! It's such an iconic landmark and so wonderfully dramatic - I'm convinced I caught one of the little figures wink at me (maybe I need my eyes tested!) The detail in the carvings is breathtaking and watching the clock mechanism in action, I almost wished I'd brought my time-turner from the Harry Potter world (but let's face it, wouldn't that be far too chaotic for a pink tutu?).
Now, a city as charming as Prague deserves to be seen by train, and thankfully, I was able to travel by pony from Derbyshire to Dover and caught the train over to Prague - truly magical! The scenery gliding by from the window was straight out of a vintage travel poster, and I even managed to squeeze in a couple of dance stretches in my seat. Who needs a ballet barre when you have the swaying rhythm of the train?
One thing that truly charmed me about Prague was its dedication to art and culture, particularly ballet. It seems that every corner you turn in this city, you stumble upon a beautiful, grand theatre, oozing history and whispers of forgotten ballets. The National Theatre is the crown jewel though. This stunning building, designed in a neo-renaissance style, just oozes charm from its majestic facade down to the very last detail. It truly is a masterpiece!
As a ballerina blogger, I had to step inside! Thankfully, the National Theatre has a ballet performance this evening, showcasing some of the world’s best dancers - the very idea just sends shivers of excitement down my spine. The programme tonight is something special - The Nutcracker! I adore Tchaikovsky's iconic score and the whimsical story always gets me in the mood to twirl. I'm planning on wearing my favourite powder pink tulle tutu and a shimmering silver bodice, because a little sparkle never hurts, right?
