Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back with another weekly installment of your favourite pink-tinted travel blog. This week I'm taking you all the way to the cobbled streets of Prague! It's hard to believe I’m actually here, my tutu swirling in the air as I waltz through the enchanting old town. Let’s face it, who needs a fairy godmother when you've got Prague, a twirling tutu, and a heart full of pirouettes?
But before I tell you about all the fabulous happenings in Prague, let’s have a quick chat about what brings us here in the first place, shall we? That's right, my fellow tutu-lovers, you've probably already guessed it – the enchanting world of ballet! This Wednesday, I'm off to see a captivating production of Swan Lake at the National Theatre. My tutu is practically vibrating with anticipation! I love the drama of the classic Swan Lake story and the exquisite choreography – it’s truly a performance that’s sure to leave a lasting impression. And the ballet is actually on in the beautiful National Theatre which dates back to 1881. How incredibly cool is that!
The reason I'm so excited to be here in Prague this week? Well, the Prague Ballet Company is quite simply magnificent. Their artistry and precision are truly inspiring, and I've heard whispers that the swan costumes in their production are a feast for the eyes. We all know how much I love a stunning swan lake tutu! And who knows, maybe this time next year I'll be performing with them - dreams are certainly not a bad thing!
But enough about ballet (for now). Let’s dive into my journey, my outfit, my travel style, and everything else that’s going to be a glorious whirlwind in the charming city of Prague.
A Touch of Pink in PragueMy travels to Prague were an adventure in themselves, darling. It was a romantic train journey, the kind where I feel most comfortable - wearing my ballet shoes in a bag of course, and enjoying the peaceful rhythm of the rails.
When I arrive, I know instantly I’ve got to take in a visit to the charming and magical Charles Bridge, adorned with beautiful statues that seem to whisper secrets about the city’s long and intriguing history. Imagine, darlings, those stones have witnessed so many stories, just like the story of how ballet became my life and now how ballet funds my travelling adventures. That is something worth celebrating. I even manage to steal a moment to take a whimsical photo for my blog, the backdrop of the iconic Prague Castle adding a touch of regality to my swirling pink tutu. You just can't beat a vintage tutu for giving any place a fairytale charm.
Speaking of fashion, I've decided to pack some gorgeous new additions to my wardrobe - a must-have! We're talking elegant knee-length silk skirts in my signature colour (you know, pink!) some whimsical, sheer blouses adorned with delicate embellishments, and a smattering of lace for those enchanting evenings in the heart of Prague. Because we all know what they say about a ballerina in a pink tutu! And to think that all these stunning additions to my wardrobe are from Prague’s independent boutiques, some tucked away in hidden cobbled alleyways. So glamorous!
The Prague fashion scene has captured my heart. It’s vintage, with a little Parisian touch and lots of artistic creativity. Oh, how I could go on forever about Prague’s fashion! I think I’m in love with the place. But, it’s only been three days! We’ll see. I’ll just go to another Prague cafe. Yes. Let's just have a lovely, elegant cup of tea in a little café tucked away from the bustling city, surrounded by the aroma of fresh pastries and watching the world go by. Now this is the Prague life. I’m living my best life right now!
Ballet Inspiration: Stepping into the Heart of HistoryOkay, I need to tell you a bit about why I'm so enthralled with Prague! You know, I love to visit ballet schools wherever I travel, I just love seeing how their training works. This week I found a wonderful, traditional ballet school just off a little square. And it had to be pink of course. There’s nothing that can ever surpass ballet. Nothing! Even as I take in the beauty and romance of Prague's history - well, actually, maybe I’m getting carried away - because the most exquisite thing I’ve ever seen is a perfectly executed triple pirouette on a pointe shoe!
Now, a few of you may know I'm obsessed with tutu history and everything that goes with the world of ballet and its stories, so imagine my delight when I discovered the beautiful Old Town Square and it’s famous astronomical clock!
This incredible clock – well, the mechanism is beautiful, I must say, it makes such a noise that when it chimes you jump with a fright, in a very good way! And then there’s the story behind it, I mean what's not to love about history and how things are put together! You can feel the craftsmanship and dedication from every corner of the square, all the way back in the fifteenth century. The Prague clock was one of the first of its kind and has inspired centuries of art and craftsmanship.
You know, we share a similar love of tradition. Think of the timeless elegance of tutus. I could quite easily imagine a ballet dancer standing in this same spot, as part of a ballet, so long ago. So charming! The connection is amazing and really brings everything together. That’s what this place does. It brings your mind to past, present and future and I’m quite certain I've just fallen deeper and deeper in love with Prague.
Prague’s Musical Secrets: A Symphony of CharmWell, we have to get back to the dancing darlings. Of course! So much to cover. It was the ballet that brought me here and it is definitely going to get me back here many more times! The local ballet dancers that perform at the beautiful National Theatre (can we ever tire of talking about it, I think not!), have got me absolutely enthralled. They've completely stolen my heart and that's not easy. Ballet just oozes talent, strength and sheer passion. Every step is like a whisper of emotion, and the artistry is out of this world. Prague’s a bit of a ballet-lover’s dream. Even outside of the National Theatre and in the main square, the music scene, especially classical music is bursting! So wonderful!
So, the only other thing that could come close to the beautiful Prague Ballet Company performance is seeing the stunning city of Prague. It truly has a magic and romance to it. If I could only give everyone that same feeling. To share with them all what I’m seeing here. How to get the best of a new experience. I've just thought, maybe I can give people the same feeling in my blog posts. What if we had a mini Pink Tutu Tour - imagine all those tutu lovers having the chance to see the most stunning ballet performances around the world, maybe we could all have a shared tutu trip together and enjoy fabulous ballet-themed tours. So many exciting opportunities!
Pink Tutu Power: Prague InspirationI'm taking a moment now as I’m sitting at one of Prague’s lovely little outdoor cafes to get into a philosophical mood. Why do I travel to these ballet performance destinations? Is it about getting more pink tutu followers, increasing my website readership? To be honest, all that is exciting, and lovely to know people enjoy my posts, it really does lift my spirits but I think what really drives my journey is the idea that somehow I can inspire just one person.
If I can inspire just one person to put on a tutu, just one person to go and see their local ballet show or maybe go to ballet class, it gives me that inner happiness. We all know that the right pair of ballet shoes make everything better. And I just hope my readers, followers and supporters get some of that magical feeling. Because the magic is just waiting to happen, and even better if everyone is wearing a pink tutu!
Stay Tuned: More Pink Tutu Adventures AheadWell, darlings, that’s a wrap for this week’s adventures. But it's only goodbye for now, there’s more fun, more glamour, more tutu and of course more ballet to come next week. You know it! I hope I’ve shown you that every trip has a story, so whether it’s by train, by horse, or by aeroplane. Go, be free! Put on that pink tutu!
See you on Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com.
Big Hugs and many kisses. Emma xx
