Hello darlings!
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another fabulous Pink Tutu adventure! This week, I'm writing to you from the heart of Prague - a city brimming with cobblestone charm and captivating history. I'm absolutely in love with the energy here, it's so romantic and whimsical, like a scene from a classic ballet.
My journey started in the most delightful way possible. I took the train from Derbyshire to Prague, and my carriage was filled with an enchanting group of fellow ballet enthusiasts. We shared stories, sipped on bubbly, and discussed our favourite ballet performances (mine's still Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, but who's counting?). And yes, of course, I wore my most beautiful pink tutu! I mean, wouldn't you?
Speaking of pink, Prague is an absolute haven for fashionistas. From the intricate lace dresses to the eye-catching vintage jewellery, every corner whispers a story of style and elegance. And let's not forget the fabulous shoe shops - they're truly something to behold. I'm definitely going to be indulging in a bit of retail therapy here, with my trusty Pink Tutu budget, of course!
But darling, you already know this blog is all about ballet! And let me tell you, Prague is a dancer's paradise. Today's post is particularly special, as I had the chance to see the most magnificent production at the National Theatre - the ballet adaptation of "The Little Mermaid". It was absolutely breathtaking! I gasped when the stage transformed into the glistening depths of the ocean and my heart swelled when Ariel, the little mermaid, soared through the air with such grace. The dancing was divine, and the costumes, oh my, the costumes! They were as glittering and enchanting as the fairy tales we adore.
You know how much I love historical stories about ballet, don't you? I learned that the National Theatre itself is quite the fascinating character! It opened its doors in the late 19th century, and in its time, has hosted some of the world's most renowned dancers, and played home to both iconic ballet classics and contemporary masterpieces. Just walking through the hallowed halls felt like a time machine, as I imagined myself in a billowing pink tutu, gracing the stage with elegant steps.
Oh! And speaking of pink tutus! There is a fascinating legend associated with Prague. It seems there was once a young girl named Alžběta who wore a beautiful pink tutu - much like my own! She loved to dance on the Charles Bridge, so beautifully adorned with twinkling lamps and majestic bridges that felt like a magical ballet set, perfect for spinning, twirling, and dancing the night away. But then came the witch of Prague, envious of Alžběta's beauty, who cursed her, saying she could only dance in her pink tutu once the moon was full and the river froze over. It’s a story with a happily-ever-after ending of course – when the first snowflakes landed, a handsome prince arrived, fell in love with Alžběta, and they danced a magical waltz under the sparkling moonlit sky.
Who knew the heart of Prague harboured such a dreamy tale? I'm definitely adding this one to my pink tutu lore collection. I simply cannot wait to stroll across Charles Bridge with my very own pink tutu, hoping to catch a glimpse of that magical sparkle!
But Prague's enchantment isn't confined to just grand theatres and fairytale stories! The city is a haven for street performers, and they certainly added their own delightful touch to my Prague experience.
A few steps away from the Old Town Square, I found a talented trio of young women. Their choreography was as captivating as it was original, and they performed in the most fabulous brightly-coloured costumes (including a glorious pink tutu, of course!). They gracefully pirouetted amidst the crowd, creating a stunning living mural right on the cobblestone street.
Speaking of performances, it was an absolute thrill to take a ride on one of Prague’s most iconic forms of transport, the historic horse-drawn carriages! They clip-clopped down the ancient streets creating the most magical soundtrack to my journey. The horses, elegantly dressed in their brightly coloured harnesses, seemed almost like partners in dance, their hooves creating their own captivating rhythm in the cobblestone squares. I’d be remiss not to mention that the coachmen’s colourful attire matched my own dazzling Pink Tutu. I almost wished we were dancing down the cobbled streets of Prague together!
Now, it's time to go exploring, my darling! My afternoon plans include discovering hidden coffeeshops serving up delightful Bohemian treats and, of course, hunting down the most divine pink tutu accessories I can find.
This isn't goodbye, though, just à bientôt! Come back next Wednesday to hear all about my latest ballet adventure, filled with more captivating discoveries and sparkling tales from Prague!
Until then, dance on, darling!
Lots of pink love,
Emma
